About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

Our Door County home is a treasure...situated on Lake Michigan and alongside a county park that has limited visitors by design. We are very fortunate to have this piece of paradise to enjoy the lake, sun, stars, and each other. Master bath has a double shower and walkout outdoor shower. Details such as cherry wood and slate floors throughout first floor, Door County stone in countertops and fireplace are examples of attention to detail an architect would ensure his guests enjoy. Call to learn of many other amenities! 414-313-9183.

If you would like to book in March, 2018 ask for a 10% discount in your booking request.

Here are particulars about our home I like to ensure people have reviewed prior to booking:

Beds: It's clear on the site but sleeping seven means this: one king, one queen, two twins that can be pushed together and a futon that is queen size. (Just ordered a queen sleeper sofa to replace the futon that will be here by mid-April 2018.)

The oven and microwave are a combined GE Advantium unit and it's a little too "smart" for its own good. Therefore, baking is bit of a challenge. There is a cookbook that gives step by step instructions. Many people use the stove top or one of our two grills (propane or charcoal). We just bought a new Weber grill late 2017. The oven is the size of a large microwave. Use of the microwave is the same as all others and not a challenge.

The water system uses a holding tank, more environmentally friendly, so it's important to call # in home instructions if the buzzer goes off indicating it's one -two days from being full so the next renter has good water pressure. You don't have to be home when they pump tank, it takes about 10 min and is all done outside. It's unlikely it will happen when you are here but I need to have your commitment you'll call the number if the buzzer goes off when you are there.

If you have young children you'll want to know about our stairs, which you can see in the kitchen pictures on the website. They are "open" going upstairs and down from the front hallway to the basement. "Open" meaning open slats between stairs and no door to stairways. The upstairs hallway is the same way. You'll need baby gates or other safety devices to make the stairway safe for your children. Bedrooms do have doors except the loft area. Also, the yard is not fenced and we are on the lake, with a 12 foot cliff on the lake side.

We have the home instructions on the website and ask that you review them before booking so that you are sure to be booking a home that meets your needs.

I used to be able to speak with people before they rent to ensure they will be well suited for our home but the online sites no longer allow this due to worry they won't get their fee. But I am certainly available by phone after you book.

This note covers the topics I'd typically cover with people on the phone.

We expect you will have a fabulous time and do all we can to ensure that is the case including letting you know these particulars about our home to ensure it is a good match for you. As you can see by our reviews, our renters have been very happy!

We hope you'll find as much pleasure in our home as we do.

About Janet Slater

My father designed this home to be a fabulous retreat from city life. Crack any window open and the lake is in the room. Windows abound so the outside is inside. When I come to Door County the stress of day to day life just slips away and the wildlife, lake and new areas to discover bring many moments of enjoyment.

Janet Slater purchased this house in 2001

Why Janet Slater chose Sturgeon Bay

The beauty of this property is that it is on the lakeside, you have peaceful, gorgeous views, the lake in all it's splendor; a full sky of stars; daytime privacy, hiking trails unending, and just a short drive away, when you wish to shop, visit art galleries, eat out, etc. you are close by.

I have at our home a long, diverse list of activities for families, couples, nature lovers, shoppers, gallery lovers, boaters, explorers, as well as recommended restaurants, a calendar of events and directions to sites, parks and towns near by, and essential services you may need.

What makes this house unique

We love the privacy...we have a county park to the south of us, so no one can build or daily encroach on our enjoyment. We have two patios/porches. One is just above the lake with a fire pit and it's wonderful for the evening with friends or early morning tea all on your own. The two person master suite shower and outdoor shower are both a delight. The lights were custom made for the property and add a wonderful texture to the space. The two story living and dining room, along with the Door County stone fireplace are the favored gathering spots throughout the day, with the many sliding glass doors, you feel like you are outside. The Tempur-Pedic king size bed make slumber a dream.

Winter getaway

  • 5 of 5

This was our second trip to the Lakefront home. We really enjoyed our stay, the house was as great as we remembered it. The location is off the beaten path but not to from places to eat and shop, which is what we wanted. We would definitely consider going back again

Don't know how it could be better

  • 4 of 5

We definitely enjoyed our stay.

everything was nice, it was easy to find, the house is at the edge of the Park.

The house is very confortable,

The only thing is the oven is small, but it was clear at the beginning so it was not a surprise...

Janet is very quick to respond to any questions you may have....

It was defiantly a wonderful vacation.

Thank you!

Beautiful Home, Awesome Location, Ammenities Plentiful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here from 11/03 - 11/06.Three couples celebrating 45 years of marriage. House was well stocked, clean, had beautiful views, from every window in the house. Although the weather was a bit rainy, it did not dampen our fabulous time. Scenery and privacy were appreciated. And, just a short walk to Cave Point County Park. We WILL be back in the summer to take advantage of the beautiful grounds and outdoor scenery.. now on to the Packer Game!

Great Escape From City Life

  • 5 of 5

Stayed here while I was in town for a friend's wedding- we enjoyed sitting out on the lakeside deck so much we ended up being late for the ceremony! The house was clean and well-kept, and Janet was an attentive, communicative host. Would highly recommend for anyone looking for a peaceful lakeside retreat just a short walk away from beautiful parks (Cave Point & Whitefish Dunes) and a quick drive from Door County's most popular shops & restaurants. Book it and don't look back!
