Little Camp Island on Lake Winnipesaukee is located south and east of Bear Island and north and west of the Forties. Accessible only by boat, this island retreat is very private. Little Camp Island has only two other cottages on it, which are not visible. There is a large private dock with mooring whips and anchor lines, with an adjoining sundeck and a mooring ball. Rental is for adults 25 and over and their children.

Built in 1963, the cottage faces north with a spectacular view of the White Mountains. Enjoy both sun and moon rises and sets from anywhere, as the cottage is situated on the northern tip of the island. The sun greets you each morning as it rises over the east beach and across the 'broads.' The moon rises over the east beach as well. The sun sets to your west while you enjoy dining on the large wrap around deck.

On-site toys include a canoe, two kayaks, and a badminton space, as well as swimming all day and night!

The bedrooms are comprised of the first floor master with queen size bed and guest with full size bed and a very large loft with three twin beds and one full size bed up the spiral staircase.

The north point beach includes a stone deck and chiminea surrounded by a deck and hammock. Wild blueberry bushes offer berries in late July and August, great for pancakes and muffins. Pictures are worth a thousand words.

Clearest Water On Lake Winnipesaukee. You have found the seclusion and change of pace in life you need for the perfect vacation! This is the most lovely property on Lake Winnipesaukee; your family will never want to leave. The cottage is very private and the water is the cleanest on the lake, as Little Camp borders the 'Broads' which help keep the water moving and clear. There is no milfoil which is prevalent along the shores of the lake! Because of its remoteness it lacks some of the modern conveniences which adds to its rustic charm. For example, electricity for the camp is provided by a generator which pumps water to the house and supplies limited electricity (bathroom lights, a few sockets for a hair dryer, a spot light helps light the path to the dock, etc.). There is no A/C (cottage is very open with large glass sliders throughout which open to cool lake breezes). Kerosene lamps are used for lighting (though the days are long), propane fuels the kitchen utilities: refrigerator and stove. The lake-stone fireplace throws heat on those rare rainy cool days, there is no TV, and it is only accessible by boat. A solar array powers ceiling fans in the bedrooms and loft, as well as providing 12 volt receptacles for recharging cell phones and other electronic devices.

For our families, it has always been a place for fun and togetherness without the distractions of modern life. Stow your cellphones and electronics away, say goodbye to the hustle and bustle of everyday life and go for a swim, paddle around the lake, lay in the hammock enjoying a good read - reacquaint yourself with yourself!

The house is most comfortable for 2-4 adults over 25 and their children, totaling no more than 9 including children.

This is a non-smoking, drug free, no pet home and property.

On Site Inspections: On site inspections are welcome. If you are planning on being out on the lake please give us a call with a rough estimate of the timeframe and we will gladly arrange to meet you at your convenience to give you a tour.

How do I begin to describe this peaceful, rustic, charming cottage set on a picturesque island in the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee? I guess I should start with the hosts, Scott and Becky, who graciously open their house to our family and provided virtually everything we needed which made for an epic family vacation which kept 5 boys between the ages of 10 & 16 completely entertained. The only problem we could possibly have in the future is to decide taking them again or making a getaway trip with another couple. At first, we were a little concerned that it didn’t have the traditional electric power we were used to at home but with the solar powered roof grid oil lights, propane stove & refrigerator, we got along swimmingly. If electric lights were needed at night the trusty old generator did the trick. The kitchen provided everything we needed from pots & pans, sharp knives as well as a well-stocked pantry with spices, oils, zip lock bag, and everything you would need to create a fabulous meal, clean it up and store the leftovers in the fridge. Upon reading the introduction to the house on line I was a little skeptical whether they embellished upon everything that was provided in the house but I can honestly say they did not over sell or promise what the house contained. Whether you go away with adults or as a family this house can party well. The indoor fireplace is quite spectacular in size and rustic appearance while the outdoor fireplace provides for a camp fire that any kid will remember as an adult. They even provided well-seasoned hard wood to burn in the house. This was truly a vacation to remember and the dock on the island is in great shape and provided easy access to come and go as you please. There were great sandy places to swim, snorkel and the water was clear and warm. For us this was a vacation “outside the box” because neither my wife nor I were boaters but we were able to rent a really great boat, at a reasonable price, just about a 10 minutes cruise to the house. This turned out to be a vacation to remember and for the entire family and Scott and Becky were the perfect hosts, “THANK YOU FOR A REAL GOOD TIME!!!”

Perfect location and lots to do

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay at this rustic camp! There are views of the lake from every angle - very exciting to watch storms cross the lake. We swam, fished, sailed, canoed, explored the lake with our boat and read a ton of books. The only draw back is that it is located in a spot that is very busy with boats on the weekends. I would recommend it to people / families who love to be on the water and who are used to car camping. The camp furniture / interior is not luxurious and could be cramped and uncomfortable after a few days of rain, but we loved it!

Owner's Response: Furnishings: The summer cottage is only for summer use. As a long time island residence we avoid any plush furnishings that will absorb dampness and become musty. As a result, everything possible is as mildew proof as possible with furnishings that active campers in damp bathing suits can't harm. Boat Traffic: Little Camp is located in the middle of Lake Winnipesaukee and is not located in any boating corridor. There is no island more remote on this big Lake. The only boat traffic one can count on are the daily tour boats, the Sophie C. (mail boat which stops on the islands) and Doris C., which pass by on their routes twice a day. While there are areas of the Lake that are too busy, like Paugus, Meredith and Alton Bays, Glendale and Center Harbors as well as the Weirs, we can assure our guests this is not the case here and that there is only the normal level of activity from neighboring islanders and vacationers. You will feel safe while boating by canoe, sailfish or water skiing with your family, even during the peak month of July.

Away From It All!

  • 5 of 5

My family, and some friends just finished a wonderful week at this cottage on Little Camp island and we had a fantastic time! The property is uniquely situated on the north tip of the small island (only 2 other homes on the island) to give you nearly 270 degrees of view of the lake, with views from the east side through the broads down to Wolfeboro. The home is rustic, but comfy and well equipped. All the kids slept in the upper loft area. The owners were very helpful and easily accessible to answer questions. We snorkeled around the whole island in crystal clear water, fished, swam, tubed, water-skied, canoed and just hung out on the dock and in the water. The property has a great little campfire deck on the north point with a hammock where we roasted marshmellows and enjoyed the views. The east side beach has some great rocks that you can swim around.

The cottage provides a very cozy, camp-like environment with Karosene lamps for most lighting, but still has ameneties like a hot shower, and fully functional kitchen.

You can only get there by boat and you should take caution when approaching the dock as there are some large rocks. All in all we found it to be an excellent location on the lake for trips to Meredith, Wiers Beach, Wolfeboro, and Alton Bay.

We really enjoyed the slowed down pace of Island living and will definitely plan to come back to the "Camp at Little Camp"!

Lake Winnipesaukee is 32 by 10 miles with 350 Islands. Little Camp is just about in the middle.

Unbelievably beautiful, private and remote island accessed only by boat. The change in the pace of life a vacation needs! Electricity provided by generator primarily to pump water; lighting by kerosene lamps and propane gas. Solar array powers fans in the bedrooms as well as provides 12 volt receptacles for recharging cell phones and other electronic devices.

Other Activities: Boating, Canoeing, Kayaking
