Schedule a getaway to the serene and beautiful Harmony Retreat and enjoy year-round fun at the lake! Check calendar for available dates and book your getaway now! Read the guest reviews to see why this is a fun spot for family and group gatherings, and a relaxing romantic getaway too.

A great place for HONEYMOONS, FAMILY REUNIONS, ANNIVERSARY & BIRTHDAY GATHERINGS, GIRLFRIEND GETAWAYS, FISHING TRIPS, HOLIDAYS, RETREATS & more!

All four seasons, enjoy the 550 sq. ft. covered deck, hot tub, peaceful environment, and lake view.

The Harmony Retreat is conveniently located less than 2 miles north of Mossyrock (off US Hwy 12/White Pass Scenic Byway & 20 miles east of I-5's exit 68), on the east end of beautiful Mayfield Lake in a quiet, upscale lakeside neighborhood. The west-facing custom built home has lake views from most of the rooms and from the covered deck. In the evening, watch the sun set over the glistening lake, and at night, gaze at the stars shining brightly in the night sky, unobstructed by city lights. In summer, the 13-mile lake invites participation in all manner of water recreation -- swimming, skiing, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. In winter, snow sports are just an hour away at the newly-expanded White Pass Ski Resort (two new quad chairs, a new lodge, 13 new runs, 767 additional acres) and Mt. Rainier National Park.

The Harmony Retreat's Great Room invites the outside in with its two-story wall of windows facing the lake. This room features a fireplace, 32' HD LCD TV with blu-ray/DVD player and satellite, hardwood floors, ceiling fan, and two spacious sofas (one converts to a comfortable full-size bed with thick pillow-top mattress; a rollaway bed, 3 foam mattresses, and a porta-play convertible crib are also available for extra sleeping options for the whole family). The large, open kitchen is fully equipped with all you need to enjoy cooking and dining at this lakeside retreat. The dining table and counter bar together seat 8.

The Harmony Retreat has secure wireless DSL Internet access, so feel free to bring your laptop or notebook. Local phone service on the landline is free; bring a calling card or your cell phone for long distance calls. Enjoy a variety of board games, books, magazines, and DVDs for all ages. Central heating and the fireplace create a warm ambiance in winter. Air conditioning and ceiling fans keep the home cool in the summer. There's a complete laundry room with washer, dryer, iron and ironing board too.

Outside, the 1/3-acre property features richly varied naturescaping, with stone paths, a dry creek, garden art, and many whimsical touches. Lovingly created by the original owners through years of dedicated gardening, and updated in recent years by our talented gardener friends, these grounds are a retreat too, a place to become steeped in nature's beauty, while walking the paths, meditating under a canopy of tree branches, resting on a hammock, or viewing from the second floor deck. Gaze at the garden from the hot tub from its covered area below the deck. Relax on weathered wood chairs on the patio, roast hot dogs and marshmallows over the fire pit, and enjoy grilling fresh-caught fish on the gas barbecue grill.

There's boat parking in the driveway (no moorage) and the community boat launch is just a block down the street, where you can launch your motor boat for a day of fishing (lake is open for fishing year-round) or water-skiing. Or bring your jet-skis, canoes, kayaks, or rafts to explore the 13-mile lake and adjacent Cowlitz River canyon.

A community swimming spot with dock and picnic area is across the street through a greenbelt. Bike, jog, or walk on scenic country roads that meander through forest and meadows, where you're likely to spot farm animals, fields of flowers, wildlife, birds, and vistas of Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and the neighboring foothills. Or head out by car to visit the rural towns of Mossyrock and nearby Morton, walk through the show gardens of DeGoede Bulb Farm, take a day trip to Mt. Rainier and check out the excellent visitors center and trails, in winter enjoy snow sports at nearby White Pass, go shopping at the outlet and antique stores and have lunch at historic McMenamins in nearby Centralia, view Mt. St. Helens from the northeast approach, and drive the back roads of this unique region.

About Harmony Retreat

Our family lives in Seattle and has enjoyed staying at vacation rentals internationally that we've found on VRBO. We love the convenience and unique amenities of vacation rental homes. So we wanted to create our own unique sense of 'home-away-from-home' using our travel experiences, to share with guests visiting this area.

Harmony Retreat purchased this house in 2008

Why Harmony Retreat chose Washington

Mayfield Lake is still largely an 'undiscovered treasure' -- even people in nearby Centralia sometimes aren't aware of this 13-mile long glistening jewel just a short drive off of I-5! I spent more than a year looking for the perfect property to enjoy with my own family and to share with vacationers too, before finding the Harmony Retreat.

As a former community volunteer for the local chamber of commerce, I was well aware of a need for more lodging options as we were regularly asked for recommendations of places to stay around the lake. So I've been happy to offer this unique lodging choice for Mayfield Lake and Mossyrock-area visitors.

The Harmony Retreat is an easy drive from Portland (about 90 minutes), Olympia (about an hour) and Seattle (under 2 hours) and is also just over an hour from White Pass Ski Resort. The Mt. Rainier Visitors Center is less than an hour's drive and there are a variety of activities happening in the area all summer, including steam train rides on weekends in Elbe and Centralia, the famous Loggers Jubilee in August in Morton, the Blueberry Festival in nearby Mossyrock the first weekend in August, farmers markets, and huge flea markets that line the main drag of Packwood on Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. Enjoy fireworks shows on the lake and in Mossyrock and Randle on 4th of July weekend too!

What makes this house unique

When my very patient realtor showed me this home after we'd viewed dozens of others over many months, I knew it was 'the one'! Located in a quiet, upscale lakefront neighborhood, it's just 2 miles from the main highway (US Hwy. 12/White Pass Scenic Byway) and the town of Mossyrock. Custom-built by its original owners, much care went into the home's construction and its surrounding gardens. Unique architectural features provide a sense of character and class that make this home much more than a 'cabin' or a 'house' -- and so we call it simply the 'Harmony Retreat.'

The large covered outdoor deck has quickly become a favorite relaxing spot for guests, where they can grill on the gas bbq grill, rest on the hammock, read, drink wine, and relax on comfortable chairs while enjoying views of the lake across the street, and the scenic foothills nearby.

Since opening for guests in April 2009, Harmony Retreat has hosted couples celebrating anniversaries, young families considering relocation to this unique rural area, active kayakers and fishing enthusiasts, youth group gatherings, scrapbooking groups, girlfriend getaways, solo retreats, and multigenerational family gatherings. Whether you're a regular visitor to Mayfield Lake looking for a new place to stay, or someone looking for a completely new destination to explore in a pristine, mountain/lake setting not far off the beaten path, we sincerely welcome you to the Harmony Retreat!

Perfect Cascades get-a-way

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four spent a week at the property in early June 2017. We lucked upon the most perfect weather as there was no rain the entire week except for the last day, which gave us an excuse to stay inside and be lazy before heading back home. Our teenage son immediately claimed the downstairs bedroom while our younger son thoroughly enjoyed the loft bed. The welcome gift basket was a splendid surprise. We made ourselves quite at home as we ventured out during the week to Mt. Rainier (1 hr drive), Mt. St. Helens (1 hr drive), Olympia, and horseback riding in Elbe! The owner had great communication before and during our stay. I don't think anyone was ready to go home, and I would highly recommend this property.

Owner's Response: I'm happy to hear that your family enjoyed your week at the Harmony Retreat! It sounds like you settled in and really made it your "home away from home" on your trip to the Pacific Northwest. And now horseback riding in Elbe is on my summer "to do list" too!

Cozy, light-filled, well-equipped home in serene, beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This home had a really lovely and welcoming vibe. It was clean and pretty and so well equipped for cooking and just relaxing. Board games to play, supplies for coloring and doodling, a nice gift basket of goodies and wine, lots of colorful outdoor seating on the covered deck, a gas grill with extra propane tank, a hot tub. We didn't want to leave! It felt like a home away from home, but one that was all set up to simply enjoy, with no chores like at our real home. Definitely a relaxing place, and such pretty views of the lake and garden. It's an easy drive to Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens from here and we liked just walking on the country roads and spending time at the lake too. Mostly we loved relaxing here, sitting on the deck with our morning coffee and evening wine, away from the busy city traffic and lights, gazing at the stars at night and breathing the fresh air. It was a good value for the price too - plenty of space for everyone and having a full bathroom on each level was handy. The internet worked great (we imagined how nice it would be to telecommute from here!). I could go on and on - it was a wonderful place to stay and we will surely return to retreat in the harmony of nature and beauty at Mayfield Lake.

Harmony Retreat

  • 2 of 5

Overall Harmony Retreat is a decent place, though value for money is on the lower end. It was cramped for 7 of us, in spite of it being advertised to accommodate up to 10. The owner was easily reached and helpful, but expected guests to "pitch in". For example guests are asked to fill the BBQ propane if it runs out (no spare bottle on premises), and have laundry loaded and running on departure. We also encountered small bits of trash from previous guests. None of these things are awful, but for the per night cost of Harmony we expected a little more.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry that the guests weren't fully satisfied with their stay. They called on arrival to ask for garage access (normally not included in rental) so they could store 7 bikes. I willingly provided that as an extra courtesy. Since they reached out with that request, I'm surprised they didn't express any of the concerns from their review during their stay. I am always willing to respond immediately and strive to provide a great experience to all. Guests are sent a detailed welcome letter by email, and there is a copy of it in the home. It notes where the spare propane tank is and mentions where they can get extra propane nearby (if they need more than the existing 2 propane tanks). Guests are asked to put a first load of towels into the washer and start it before they leave, if they have time to do so. This helps keep the cleaning fee so low. As our description notes, the 1500 sq ft cabin has 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. It sleeps 5 in the bedrooms and 5 more using rollaway, sofabed, and open loft sleeping space. We've hosted groups of up to 12 (with sleeping mats for kids) though naturally guests will have individual preferences for level of privacy, space needs, etc. There are much larger rental homes on our street that rent for at least twice as much, so the trade-off of budget vs. space is a choice for each to make. (Of note also is that the foreign exchange rate from these guests' country added 20% or more to the listed rate.) I encourage prospective guests to carefully read descriptions of house features, look at photos, and ask questions that will help them decide if Harmony Retreat will fit their needs, and to reach out with any questions during their stay too.
