Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps Six, no more please!)

Family memories are made here! Overlooking the romantic moors of the south shore of Nantucket Island, ideally located between town and Sconset, you can hear the waves crashing in the distance. Situated on a quiet beach road, just five miles from the bustling Nantucket town, we offer privacy and solace in an intimate seaside neighborhood. Among the many great attributes is the convenience to one the most beautiful, pristine and secluded beaches on Nantucket. This house is not a generic rental home, and the owners are constantly remodeling and upgrading to give their guests the best vacation experience possible at this very special island retreat. We believe that hospitality and homes go hand in hand; when you stay at Sea Castle, no minor detail is overlooked.

This 1900 square foot classic shingled beach house offers windows galore that make you feel as if you are outside all year long. Spotlessly clean and impeccably maintained, this lovely home features a classic island "upside down" design, a light and airy living area, hand-painted seascape murals, custom tile work, a tropical fish aquarium, freshly cut hydrangeas from the garden, country pine and leather furniture, antique artifacts, cathedral ceilings with beams, reclaimed oak flooring, upgraded stainless steel appliances in the kitchen with a huge granite island, two south facing decks, a rich, soothing cranberry master bedroom with an oversized king bed and its own private entrance. There is a safe for your valuables, current beach reads, two irons, great toys, baby equipment (high chair, booster seat, nursery monitor and a pack-n-play), even popsicles in the freezer await you!

There are three air-conditioned bedrooms on the ground floor featuring firm high quality mattresses, Somus Sleep supreme memory foam comfort pillows in both master and guest rooms, plus a full loft on the third floor (accessible by ship's ladder) offering a queen sleeper sofa. Your home away from home!

We leave nothing to chance regarding comfort and convenience for our guests, with appointments in every room and special attention to details. We even offer our own private Nantucket nanny, for those evenings out in town! The HotSprings hot tub off the master bedroom deck bubbles under the starry Nantucket sky; rinse off in the adjacent enclosed outdoor shower, if desired, or move on to the stone patio with a glass enclosed fire table and Adirondack chairs.

Houseguests enjoy amenities including a welcome gift, a grand wine and cheese/tapas platter on the afternoon of arrival, linens, terrycloth robes, bath towels, beach towels, beach chairs, two beach umbrellas, rain umbrellas, coolers, boogie boards, pails, shovels, gas barbeque, Cuisinart, Super Nintendo, Playstation 2, Wii, four TV's (featuring Comcast digital magazines, a huge video/DVD library (popcorn included), board and card games, and a large fully landscaped fenced-in yard with fire table and hot tub to relax in.

Far enough from the crowds in Nantucket, yet closer to the supermarket and other services than most other outlying areas on the island. Bike paths will take you either to the picturesque village of Sconset or to the more than 80 miles of Nantucket beaches. The Tom Nevers area of the island features natural foliage, a surrounding ring of conservation land, expansive views and miles of secluded beaches. Upside down houses with sizable yards and spacious decks are scattered throughout this wide expanse, home to a mix of year-round and summer residents. Despite its density, Tom Nevers has a rural atmosphere. You might hear a rooster crow and many bird species enjoy this natural habitat. Pick fresh blueberries that grow on the property. At the end of Tom Nevers Road, there is a playground on the former Navy base. Tom Nevers and its road along the bluff are close to the beautiful beach and approximately ten minutes from mid-island shopping. The higher elevation and gentle rises offer cooler breezes than the rest of the island.

Tom Nevers/Madequesham beaches are only 1.8 miles from home and offers some of the best surfing and fishing on the island, (without the summer crowds). Other popular beaches can be reached via the shuttle bus that stops just down the street at the intersection of Tom Nevers and Milestone Roads. We are one mile away from two of the best golf courses in the world. The town is an easy twenty minute bike ride or ten minute bus ride away.

Take your four-wheel drive out to secluded Great Point to fish and see the sunrise! Enjoy numerous shops and restaurants, museums, library, art galleries, live theater and entertainment. Try a historic stroll or even a ghost walk at night! At the wharves you can sign up for fishing trips or join available bus, taxi or walking tours of the island.

If you like quiet enjoyment of nature, relax on our upstairs deck overlooking the moors, grill out some fresh fish gazing at the ocean or try star-gazing from our telescope at night! Fogged in? Our house offers so many games and activities for your entire family to enjoy! Have an amazing vacation at Sea Castle.

Make sure to ask about our beautiful one bedroom oceanview cottage available weekends only (two or three nights) for that perfect romantic getaway!

About Christine E. Smith

What is it like to be in love with where you live? Let us count the ways . . . We have been Nantucket homeowners since 1993. Tired of the 'shuffle' back and forth, we sold our Seneca Castle, New York six bedroom farmhouse, moving here full-time from the Finger Lakes area in September 2007. It was hands down the best thing we ever did! We love Nantucket! Karl owns a property management company on island and Christine has a private family psychotherapy practice and does part-time psychiatric consulting at Nantucket Cottage Hospital. We love hosting families who come to visit the island and pride ourselves on going the extra mile to make sure their long-awaited vacation is everything they have dreamed of. From fishing advice to helping find babysitters, because we are on-island, we are here to help you. You will not find another rental home that offers the personalized 'B and B' touch quite like ours. We take your vacation seriously and love getting to know families that return year after year. We look forward to meeting you! Sunny Regards!

Christine E. Smith purchased this house in 1995

Why Christine E. Smith chose Tom Nevers

We chose to build in the Tom Nevers/South Shore area because we love the solitude and peace it offers. You can bike or walk to the beach easily. Years before, when we used to rent, we would stay in town. Although this offered convenience because we could walk to the downtown area, we craved sunlight and respite from the traffic and noise summer crowds bring. We can now spend a lovely day at the beach, surfing and whale watching, and continue to enjoy nature well after we return home, as we sit on our upstairs deck and enjoy a cocktail as the sun sets. What could be better than this?

What makes this house unique

The main living area is all windows, and there is nothing quite like that first peek out on Nantucket in the morning, while everyone still sleeps. Its like our piece of heaven, scenic and tranquil. And, of course, everyone's favorite is the hot tub and fire table! We live on the next property over, but will always respect your privacy. Having an owner close by allows you to enjoy some of Sea Castle's unique features, including a spotlessly clean and organized home, live indoor plants, fish tank. koi pond, hot tub, goodies upon arrival and many many other amenities! We love to spoil our guests!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Christine and Karl, Thanks for a wonderful weekend. The birthday cupcakes were great! We got lucky with the weather. Hate to go back. Your home is beautiful.

Great House that Became our Home for the Stay

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Nantucket for 10 years now and Sea Castle is one of the best houses we have rented. The house is immaculate and exactly what is represented. The owners are nearby and made sure that we had everything we needed during our stay. They understand that the little things count and there are many personal touches that mad the house a home for us. Our kids are a little older now so Tom Nevers beach is a great location to enjoy an almost exclusive beach.

Beautiful house. Great for families!

  • 5 of 5

Sea Castle was a perfect rental for our family of four. Quiet location, nearby secluded beach and playground, a room fully stocked with toys and books for the little ones. Thanks again to Christine for being such a gracious hostess, for all the recommendations and providing treats on our arrival! We hope to return next summer!

Sea Castle

We had a fantastic week at Sea Castle. The home is clean, comfortable, and extremely well stocked. The owners go out of their way to make sure you have everything you might need for the week including helpful island info. We too were welcomed by an amazing cheese platter and wine...so nice after a day of travel!! In addition to great restaurant recommendations, the the owners also helped us with babysitting services. Clearly the owners care about their guests experience at Sea Castle. Thanks for a great week Sea Castle!!

Sea Castle

A Sea Castle Nantucket rental is a real treat! The owners did everything to make our visit enjoyable including the delivery of a tray of food and wine upon our arrival! They were nearby ready to assist with any problems which might develop, but never intrusive. Before our arrival, they sent a very large packet of Nantucket information which would be most helpful to people who were not familiar with the island. The home was immaculate and equipped with every convenience possible to make our stay a pleasant one. Our grandchildren visited for a few days, and they found every beach toy they could possibly want in a shed behind the house. And, the immaculately clean hot tub and fire pit were real pluses for them! The kitchen had lovely new appliances, and the washing machine was "state of the art"! We never ran out of hot water no matter how many showers were taken, and this is rare for a rental on Nantucket! There were TVs in each room and a huge library of most interesting books and games for those rainy days! Sea Castle is a winner!

My husband and I were over the moon about this home! After a lengthy trip, with 3 children in tow, we were just thrilled to have such an open, spacious home to relax in. The older boys were in the (very clean) hot tub within minutes, and my 2 year old was very content playing in the childrens room, which has an amazing variety of toys and childrens books. This home is modern, clean, and updated, with just the right amount of beach kitsch. There is a lovely yard, large enough for the kiddos to enjoy. The adults appreciated the very peaceful (and quiet) surroundings. Other nice features included a second floor deck (a beautiful spot to enjoy the gorgeous Nantucket sunsets), and a very private outdoor shower. The owners really thought of everything, and went above and beyond to make the stay special... a wine and cheese plate greeted us, upon our arrival, the shed had beach toys and boogie boards, the closets were stocked with cozy sweatshirts and extra blankets for chilly evenings, and the kitchen has everything you need if you prefer to eat in. This really is a special home run by equally special hosts. We'd highly recommend this home.

Additional information about rental rates

Refundable damage deposit $900

Each year, we receive hundreds of requests to rent Sea Castle for the Memorial Day/Figawi Race weekend. We sometimes end up being vacant, if we have not found the right fit. We are a real home, promised to different families throughout the summer, who count on the high quality that our website advertises. This weekend marks the beginning of our season, and if property damages occur, we may not be able to right them before our next guests. Especially being on an island thirty miles out to sea. Most real estate agents on Nantucket will not rent this weekend, because of the “party” nature of it all. Throughout the island, there are stricter restrictions enforced, because of the craziness that unfortunately is linked with it.
That being said, we are only willing to consider families, and opt to shy away from unrelated groups of adults. This way, we are assured of the number of guests, as well as their intent of enjoying some quiet beach time and gentle use of this beautiful home.
Thank you for your understanding. We wish you all the best, and again, thank you for your interest.

Half of this amount of the rental fee along with the original signed copy of the vacation rental lease are due with in ten days of commitment of the reservation being made . The remainder will be due approximately six weeks before the rental period, along with a security deposit of $750. Payment should be made by either personal or bank check. Sorry, but we do not accept credit cards.
