About Linda Sheehy-Brownstein

Your Hosts: Linda and Bruce. We have enjoyed many trips to the Okanagan over the years. We purchased our 80 acre property and moved to Oliver at the end of 2007. After 25 plus years working in the film industry in Vancouver, Linda now enjoys running the High Chaparral Guest House. Bruce continues to commute between Vancouver and Oliver working on various film projects during the week. We live in a separate residence on the acreage with our house dog, Oliver.

Linda Sheehy-Brownstein purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Linda Sheehy-Brownstein chose Okanagan Valley

High Chaparral is unique and unlike anything else offered in the area. The scent of ponderosa pine and wild sage enchant the senses while the breeze whispers through the trees. Our property is home to many species of birds, including quail, grouse, sage thrashers, bluebirds, hummingbirds, eagles, owls, hawks and vultures. In the Spring many beautiful wild flowers cover the surrounding hills. Ancient deer paths are present throughout the acreage, still used today by our resident deer and are an easy hike for our guests. Oliver is home to world class restaurants and over 40 award winning wineries.

Relax while enjoying the peacefulness our 80 acre property offers - privacy is yours in a gorgeous setting. We are stewards of our land and have signed a covenant with Okanagan Similkameen Stewardship Society to maintain the wildlife habitat on our property

What makes this chateau / country house unique

While set in privacy of the pristine wilderness - we are only 10 minutes from Main St., Oliver. From High Chaparral Guest House you can visit over 30 wineries, 3 golf courses, many hiking trails, 3 lakes. After a day of wine tasting, you can return to the guest house, prepare your dinner and enjoy some of our local wines, while taking in the spectacular sunset on our wrap around deck. High Chaparral has two private suites, each with a separate entrance. A fully equipped kitchen is available for your use at no extra cost.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 4 days here - so incredibly beautiful: starry sky at night, owls hooting, away from all the tourists (yet so close to several wineries). The accommodation was clean & well-appointed; the patio a fabulous gathering place to hang out and visit. Linda and Bruce were incredibly attentive without being intrusive. We definitely will be back!

Beautiful hacienda type place in the hills outside Oliver

  • 5 of 5

This was a fabulous place to stay. Linda and Bruce, hosts, have put so much effort into ensuring that their guests have every comfort. The sunsets from the deck are spectacular. The place is quiet and serene yet just a ten minute car ride to the best wineries and eateries in the Okanagan. Plenty of opportunity for good biking and hiking. Highly recommend.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

We loved our time at the guest house. The remote location lends itself to peaceful relaxation.

It was wonderful to sit on the patio (with a meal or drink prepared in the lovely well equipped kitchen) and relax and enjoy nature - the only sounds being the crickets and the birds. The accommodation was clean and and comfortable and well designed to fit in with the natural surroundings. Would love to go back again.

A Great Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Came up in early July from Vancouver for a two night stay.

An oasis in the hills above Oliver.. Truly a magical and tranquil guest house property with the nicest of innkeepers..

The High Chaparral Guest house was the perfect place to be.. So close to great wineries and amazing restaurants ...

Early morning coffee and breakfast in a nicely appointed kitchen felt like home..

It was great coming back to the guest house at the end of a day visiting wineries in the local just a short drive away.

Just a beautifully laid out guest house in a peaceful setting, one that I'll definitely come back to again.

Highly recommend :)

Stayed for an Oliver Wedding

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking for a place in Oliver near our wedding venue. We had a voucher and used it for 3 nites. We are so glad we stayed the extra 3rd. night. Our usual holiday is one of busyness so to be less busy and more liesurely was a new experience for us. We loved it's serene setting the best sleep I have had in ages, no noise of cars , sirens or traffic just total stillness. We toured wineries , went to the town beach, star gazed to the wee hours of the night, no mosquitoes,a big plus. Used the very modern shared kitchen for 2 meals and some coffee time it has a personal fridge with each counter side, the only thing shared is really the stove, the large barbq and sink otherwise the kitchen area is separated, One day we watched a mama black bear playing with her cub on the nearby hillside a national geographic moment for us, also lots of deer on the property. The units are well designed with impressive wood beams in keeping with a southwest flavor very nicely furnished you won't be dissapointed, comfortable large bed. Complimentary wine coffee and condiments. Lots of nice places to eat in the area. We would love to come back and stay sometime as it holds a special place in our hearts.

Peaceful getaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at High Chapparel for three nights in May of this year. It is truly one of the most peaceful and fragrant getaways we have ever experienced. When we were there the Balsam was blooming, so there were yellow flowers all over the dry hills. The pines were responsible for the fragrance. We enjoyed the walking, and I enjoyed going for long runs on the quiet country roads in the area. Our bedroom was very comfortable, and the kitchen was well equipped. The architecture adds to the sense of peace. We had a lovely time. We took our dog as well, and we were made to feel very welcome to walk her on the property with us.
