Summers House, is a rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem. Warm, welcoming, filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, souless. That might be so for all our future vacation homes.'
Summers House has views that reach to San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, yet is just three miles, 10 minutes, from Historic Sonoma Plaza. Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, and beautifully integrated into the natural landscape, it epitomizes his goal: To create “The house as art”.
DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Today, huge moss covered boulders still sculpt the land. Tumbling stonewalls have been restacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, the home’s natural cedar walls and exposed beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for nearly sixty years, has been restored and tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six (an occasional seven or eight with approval.) The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and Jacuzzi bathtub. The two bedrooms that once housed the Summers children, feature queen sized beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.
An enormous deck, with a wonderful jarrah wood outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpias and the San Francisco Bay. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.
Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private country property in east side Sonoma. Drive through vineyards, pass by Ravenswood Winery, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing.

Just what we were looking for.
This place was just what we were looking, nothing too fancy just a nice secluded place with a view. It is a nice cozy little place that comfortably slept all 6 of us (3 couples). We had a nice kitchen to cook breakfast and dinner and all the cookware we needed was available. Nice spacious master bedroom. While the other 2 rooms are a little smaller it was all the space we needed. The back patio is the main thing we loved. It’s a nice spacious deck with a grill that we utilized and a beautiful view. If it were a bit warmer when we were there we would’ve eaten every meal outside. Pat was very easy to work with and when we had to come in earlier than our check in time so I could take an online test she was very accommodating. My father lost his sunglasses and Pat found them and is being kind enough to mail them back to us. Not everyone would do that and we greatly appreciate it. And if you love to read this is definitely the place for you. There’s a huge bookshelf with tons on books. We would definitely stay here again. Thank you Pat for your hospitality
I highly recommend Summers house! We spent a girl's weekend at Summers House. There were 4 of us and it was very comfortable. I am very picky about bedding and linens. Every bed was comfortable and had nice linens and pillows. The kitchen was well stocked with glasses, plates, silverware and condiments. The setting was beautiful! It was very peaceful, quiet and serene. I was concerned that Uber would not be able to find the house since it was not on a main street in town. We did not have any problems with Uber or other drivers who came to pick us up. It's about 10 extra minutes up the hill and well worth it for the views. We met the owner and her family. They were very kind and gracious! We were so happy to spend our girl's birthday weekend in Sonoma at Summers House!!
It was a pleasure to have these lovely women stay at Summers House. We have hosted many women's groups over the years. The house is a great place to get together and reminisce, share meals - and of course enjoy "bottle poetry" - the most acclaimed product of our region! Situated on the east side of Sonoma, the house is convenient to both Sonoma and Napa wineries. You pass by Ravenswood, our neighborhood winery, coming to and from the house. Sebastiani is just a minute or two closer to town. The nearest Napa/Carneros wineries are about 15 minutes away. The area abounds with wonderful restaurants. Our women guests raved about Sante at the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa. We hope to see them again on their next trip to the Wine Country.
Perfect Girls' Weekend!
Summers House was the perfect home for our girls' weekend in Sonoma! Five of us from across the country gathered here for the long weekend to celebrate our longtime friendship, and the house provided us just the kind of comfortable space to do this. The unique character of the Sunmers House and its views absolutely charmed us and offered a lovely introduction to this beautiful wine country. Pat was absolutely great to work with up front in the planning and was there to answer any questions we might have. We would do this again in a heartbeat!
A Sonoma stay that knocked our socks off!
We LOVED staying in this home. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty and comfort. The art and books and décor were amazing. The view from the deck was beautiful during the day or at night. We cooked for a small group and enjoyed the kitchen and all of the equipment. Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter loved the piano. And she did very well there - she even slept in the loft. It is a little difficult to find but once found, it was hard to leave. My husband was in a wheelchair and did very well staying here. Truly a wonderful experience. A large thank you to Pat for the lovely home!
Great weekend in Sonoma
This was a perfect home for a long weekend in wine country if you want to be close enough to the town of Sonoma yet away from other tourists. It was about a 10 minute drive up into the hills overlooking the valley and the view from the very spacious deck was worth every penny of the rental. Everything was as pictured, with comfortable beds and enough room for our group of six. After a long day of touring wineries or walking in Healdsburg or Zip lining in Occidental, to come back to an extremely nice home in quiet surroundings was fantastic. Thank you Pat, for a wonderful stay.
Beautiful Remote Home
Pat, my family enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home! We had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. The location was remote but worth the drive up the hill. The view was breathtaking and we took every opportunity to sit on the patio. We were in Sonoma for a wedding with many planned activities and did not have enough time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Next time! Thanks for a delightful stay!
It is such a pleasure to share our beautiful home with guests from all over the United States and around the world. Meeting wonderful people is a big plus for us as vacation rental owners. We are so happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay and hope you will return again!
