A VERY SPECIAL HOME AWAY FROM HOME
Tax ID number 852N
Summers House, an Inn Wine Country property, is a rustic contemporary country home and architectural gem. Warm, welcoming, filled with art, antiques, and books, the house garners rave reviews from groups who enjoy its embrace. As one notable author who who enjoyed the house stated, 'Now I have been spoiled; every other place we stayed in after yours seemed well, souless. That might be so for all our future vacation homes.'
Summers House has views that reach to San Franco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge, yet is just three miles, 10 minutes, from Historic Sonoma Plaza. Designed by award winning architect Robert Zinkhan, and beautifully integrated into the natural landscape, it epitomizes his goal: To create “The house as art”.
DESIGN AND DECOR
Summers House features Mexican paver tile floors, a beautifully tiled, handcrafted, fully equipped kitchen, and native stone fireplace. The striking fireplace was constructed from cobblestones left behind when quarries on the property provided stones to pave the streets of San Francisco during the 19th century. Today, huge moss covered boulders still sculpt the land. Tumbling stonewalls have been restacked to enhance the landscape, while maintaining the property's historical integrity. Native American arrowheads found on the property also provide reminders of the past.
Comfortable and practical leather furnishings complement antiques, art, the home’s natural cedar walls and exposed beams. A large 18th Century European dining table comfortably seats guests. A quarter sawn oak upright piano, a part of the family for nearly sixty years, has been restored and tuned.
Three bedrooms, all with lofts, and two bathrooms welcome groups of six (an occasional seven or eight with approval.) The master bedroom boasts an extremely comfortable king bed, and Jacuzzi bathtub. The two bedrooms that once housed the Summers children, feature queen sized beds and share a bathroom accessible from both bedrooms. Each bedroom includes a private sink and vanity.
An enormous deck, with a wonderful jarrah wood outdoor dining table, spans the south side of the house and captures views of Mt. Tamalpias and the San Francisco Bay. Views can be enjoyed from the living and dining areas as well. Sunsets are breathtaking.
Wind up one of the most scenic country roads in Sonoma to reach Summers House, located on a private country property in east side Sonoma. Drive through vineyards, pass by Ravenswood Winery, and climb up into the hills where the house is nestled on a wooded hillside where wildlife abounds. Drive slowly as the road is a hiker's paradise and wildlife crossing.

Summers House was the perfect home for our girls' weekend in Sonoma! Five of us from across the country gathered here for the long weekend to celebrate our longtime friendship, and the house provided us just the kind of comfortable space to do this. The unique character of the Sunmers House and its views absolutely charmed us and offered a lovely introduction to this beautiful wine country. Pat was absolutely great to work with up front in the planning and was there to answer any questions we might have. We would do this again in a heartbeat!
We LOVED staying in this home. The pictures do not do justice to the beauty and comfort. The art and books and décor were amazing. The view from the deck was beautiful during the day or at night. We cooked for a small group and enjoyed the kitchen and all of the equipment. Our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter loved the piano. And she did very well there - she even slept in the loft. It is a little difficult to find but once found, it was hard to leave. My husband was in a wheelchair and did very well staying here. Truly a wonderful experience. A large thank you to Pat for the lovely home!
This was a perfect home for a long weekend in wine country if you want to be close enough to the town of Sonoma yet away from other tourists. It was about a 10 minute drive up into the hills overlooking the valley and the view from the very spacious deck was worth every penny of the rental. Everything was as pictured, with comfortable beds and enough room for our group of six. After a long day of touring wineries or walking in Healdsburg or Zip lining in Occidental, to come back to an extremely nice home in quiet surroundings was fantastic. Thank you Pat, for a wonderful stay.
Pat, my family enjoyed our stay at your beautiful home! We had everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable. The location was remote but worth the drive up the hill. The view was breathtaking and we took every opportunity to sit on the patio. We were in Sonoma for a wedding with many planned activities and did not have enough time to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Next time! Thanks for a delightful stay!
A group of 4-7 of us stayed at the house for a week in June 2015. Overall, I would rate it very good, with a phenomenal view off the spacious deck, a well-equipped kitchen (lots and lots of plates, utensils, pots, pans, and the like, though a few more of the large wine glasses would have been nice (had only 4)), and sky full of stars at night. After the first time or 2 doing the winding drive up the hill, you don't give it much thought, and it's very convenient to the main square, nice to be removed from the hustle and bustle, as well as entertaining depending on who's doing the driving. :) A bit more light in the dining room/living room areas for better visibility when eating/playing games after dark would be helpful. The only word of caution is that, while there is a little bit of closet space to hang a few clothes, there is zero drawer space for any clothes in any of the 3 bedrooms, so be prepared to live out of your suitcases for the entire week. I don't mind that for a day or 2, but most of us were not happy about that for an entire week. If you're in the larger room, you do have quite a bit more space to spread out, but the other 2 bedrooms leave little space for luggage, etc. The sinks on each side of the shared bathroom were convenient. We had 7 people there only for 2 nights, so space in the main areas wasn't an issue. Definitely would limit your group to 6 people in the 3 bedrooms if you're staying for a week. The loft is quite small and designed primarily for kids.
