I was a scientist. In my retirement I spend time in the great outdoor.
Gianni Piperno purchased this house in 2006
I was passing by this house nearly every day and loved the surroundings for their privacy.
I reach a state of serenity.
This property is absolutely gorgeous--secluded, peaceful, with beautiful gardens and several walking trails at the back of the house. The house itself was immaculate, modern, and incredibly comfortable. We have a toddler, and the house set up--multiple bathrooms, a downstairs area with twin beds, a futon, and a kids' play table--was perfect for a family with a young child. Gianni and Angela were wonderful as well, and they have created a very special, lovely vacation home. Close enough to NYC for a quick getaway, and with a clear view of the night sky in a beautiful setting, this was really the perfect house for a Catskills vacation.
I was getting fed up with city life and was dying for somewhere green, cool, calm and quiet. This fantastic house fit the bill and then some! It's on a spectacular site, up a hill and backing into wilderness, so when you stop your car outside the house, all you see are green trees and green grass. It's noisy - but only with the sounds of birds, crickets, frogs and mysterious rustlings in the woods. The house is SPOTLESS, beautifully designed, and equipped with everything you'd ever need: a gas grill outside, pots and pans for cooking everything from pizza to banana bread, washing machine, dryer, clothesline, clothespins, comfortable linens, extra pillows and blankets, etc.etc. There are two single beds in the basement downstairs, a double bed in the loft/attic, and a fold-out double bed in the couch. There are two ponds on the property that fascinated my small boys, with fish, frogs, frog eggs, newts, nesting birds, dragonflies, and bees. We saw a big turtle, a rabbit, deer on the road, robins, turkey vultures, goldfinches, cardinals, and more. The birds zip through the air all around you, and the comfortable chairs on the porch are the perfect place to sit any time of day with a glass of wine and gaze at the lovely scene around you. Gianni and Angela are terrifically kind and hospitable, you feel like you're visiting friends instead of renting a house. They just started a vegetable garden, so new guests may be able to pick and eat fresh tomatoes and other treats. We caught fish in the pond (large mouth bass) and grilled it, and it was delicious. We went into town for the farmer's market and ice cream, but otherwise didn't leave the property. It's that fantastic.
The one drawback is that the house is quite open, and you can hear people walking anywhere in it. So if one person in your party wakes up and starts moving, everyone will wake up unless they're really deep sleepers. Probably not a problem for most, but something to be aware of.
All in all, it was a fabulous long weekend. My sons wanted to stay forever.
Our familly stayed in this house for 2 nights and it was a Great experience living with the wild, but the first that I've coordinated. The owners were extremely accommodating, responsive, and easy-going. The house was spotless upon our arrival, with fresh linens and towels throughout. The house was large enough to comfortably fit our family of six and had more than enough activities to keep everyone entertained all weekend long doing BBQ, looking at the farm animals a weekend getaway from the city of N.Y. Especial eating the fresh raspberries and looking and listening at the nature. The fire pit was awesome and also the sightseeing was amazing. I look forward in renting this house again. And we highly recommend the property for any groups of 6 looking for a week/weekend away.
We were at this beautiful location for a short film shoot and it exceeded our expectations.
Not only is the house spacious and beautiful with its modern yet rural decor (and every amenity you could think of needing), but the surrounding nature itself is breathtaking. Coming from New York City, we were finally able to breathe some fresh air, pick berries, see bird species we've never seen before and gaze at a myriad of stars at night, whilst making smores at the fire pit. Of course, we were there to work, but it has to be said that the location is so calm and relaxing that even shooting a film became less stressful and more of an enjoyable vacation.
Gianni and Angela are wonderfully generous hosts with many stories to tell - you will find yourself not ever wanting to leave again.
Gianni and his wife are wonderful hosts and have a great house in upstate New York. We were two couples looking to get away from the city and had a wonderfully relaxing weekend at their home. The house is great especially if you are a couple traveling alone or with kids (the downstairs room has twin beds).
The property is breathtaking and there are two lovely ponds that you can swim in. The water is cold but very refreshing on a summer day. Even if you don't swim, it's nice to bring a blanket and sit by the water. The firepit may be one of the best features. We sat for hours in the evening by the fire.
If you're interested in wood, Gianni can tell you about the diverse range of trees on his property as well as teach you about some of the gorgeous wood he's harvested. This was a part of the trip we found very enjoyable.
Our only two issues during the trip were that the grill stopped working and also that the bottle opener in the house was worn out and didn't work very well. I believe Gianni was planning to get a new grill, but I would suggest bringing your own wine opener if they don't have a new one:)
While in town, I'd recommend checking if there is a local auction happening. We attended an auction which was a fun experience for all and a great place to find amazing deals (if you have the time and patience!).
We had a fantastic weeks vacation and highly recommend this rental house. The property is very secluded but easily accessible. The house was clean and comfortable, with everything you would need(except food of course), huge windows and a porch allow for a beautiful view of the side of the mountain and wildlife. A back patio provided shade on sunny days, in the front is a great fire pit for roasting s'mores which we did almost every night! The first floor(finished basement) stayed cool on warm days/nights and was our son's and dog's favorite place to sleep. Each floor has it's own bathroom. We enjoyed our hikes through acres of forest on logging roads, and watching the World Cup in the comfortable living room. The absolute best thing was swimming in the spring fed pond with our retriever! The water was clean and cool and only a few minutes walk from the house. There is a great Italian restaurant in Roscoe(about 10 minutes away) and a farmers market every Sunday morning. We enjoyed meeting the owners of the rental who are lovely people. A great place to relax, read a book, and enjoy nature!
