Our cottage, built in 1997, provides the ideal setting for a romantic 'getaway for two' or perfect accommodations and lodging while touring Western Washington. We're a quick 90 miles from Seattle, 54 miles from Vancouver B.C. and just outside the city limits of Bellingham. The cottage is nestled among cedar and fir trees on tranquil acreage overlooking the lake and has a fully equipped kitchen/living area, bedroom, bathroom, a private porch and an abundance of skylights for stargazing.
Our cottage is for two adults only and the property won an AIA (State Architectural Award) for contemporary design. We also have unsolicited reviews for Squalicum Lake Cottage on major travel sites too. Pls note we have a two night minimum, no children, no pets. No smoking permitted in cottage.
The living room, with a vaulted beamed ceiling looks out onto Squalicum Lake and Squalicum Mountain. Large windows provide a view for watching the fish jump on the lake or enjoying the birds at the feeders. The cottage is situated in the middle of colorful perennial gardens and during the spring and fall you can see large flocks of migratory birds land on the lake.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a microwave, stove, oven, toaster, coffee maker and refrigerator. Dishes, utensils and pans are provided as well.
A white iron and brass queen sized foam (tempurpedic type) bed...cozy bedroom to snuggle or take that long sought after nap. The guests at Squalicum Lake Cottage come to slow the pace of their daily lives.
Eagles and a wide variety of other birds are a common sight as well as deer wandering through the meadow. Should you visit in the summer you might spot a heron or kingfisher looking for a bite to eat in the 26,000-gallon pond right outside your door. Dozens of frogs chorus at evening time, along with soft owl duets often heard after dark.
Squalicum Lake is not for swimming. There is no 'beach.' It is a migratory lake for fowl and a no motor flyfishing lake.
Two night minimum at $125 plus taxes/nite. Weekly rate of $800 plus tax.
Our guests initial comments are always that the website photos never do the property justice. How does one capture an entire mountain behind a lake?
We are retired but stay very busy working on the property.
We built our property because we couldn't find another place with this view and solitude.
A beautiful landscape with many types of birds. In the summer when our garden is in full swing, you might see 150 lilies and 9 ft tall sunflowers growing amidst vegies and a variety of other flowers and vegetables. We share our produce and fruit grown on our property with our guests when in season.
We provide a large binder of local activities, maps, restaurant menus for our guests to peruse.
We had such a lovely stay at your wonderful getaway. It's so peaceful here, and also so central to many fun things to do. We will certainly return for another round of relaxation in this special place. Thank you for everything.
My husband and I spent 2 wonderful and peaceful nights in this lovely cottage. It was really prefect for us, not too close to the city but not far either. It was the perfect spot to explore about and have a lovely place to come back and relax it. It was so nice that it made it hard for us to leave. We loved that nature all around us too. We particular appreciated the owners beautiful art that graced the walls of the cottage. All in all it was a delight!!
It definitely won't be the last time that we stay. Thank you so much.
Squalicum Lake Cottage is in a peaceful country setting yet very conveniently located. It is 15-20 minutes from Bellingham and about an hour from Mt Baker - Snoqualmie National Forest (which has some of the best hiking and most beautiful scenery we have ever seen). The cottage is well appointed and clean. We didn't spend a lot time at the cottage since we were busy seeing the sights, but we quite enjoyed the large picture window and multiple bird feeders. The cottage feels very private even though the owners are right next door, and they are very helpful if you need directions, recommendations, etc.
We were so pleased with our stay at Squalicum Lake Cottage. It was exactly what we were expecting - good pictures. The kitchen had everything we needed, and the bed was very comfortable. It's a pretty small space, but the large windows with a view of the lake make it feel more spacious. The owners provided so much great information on things to do locally, which was super helpful - no need to research in advance. Even though the owner's house is close by, it really felt like we had the place to ourselves. We took the rowboat out on the lake a few times, and even plucked up the courage to swim once. The water was clean, but it's really quite marshy, with tea-coloured water - it doesn't inspire you to swim. There's plenty of swimming nearby though, and it was quite nice rowing on the lake at sunset. Our one piece of feedback is that the cottage could be much improved with the addition of a front deck. The existing cement porch is small and not very inviting. It would be nice to have an area to lounge outside when the weather is nice.
What a great place! We came to WA for a little rest and to visit son's family. I couldn't be happier with the cottage! The birds where so much fun to watch! perfect 4 days, the only thing I couldn't find was a fly swatter! Flowers were a fun addition.
We stayed at Squalicum Lake Cabin this last week while visiting our daughter in Bellingham', WA. It was just the getaway we needed. We enjoyed the connection to the landscape: garden, lake, hills and sky, and the thoughtful accommodations. While we ventured out to explore some of the natural attractions of the area, we were just as delighted to have slow mornings and evenings to watch the birds, and the shifting light on the surroundings. Our hosts were helpful without being imposing, and while close to the main home, the cabin feels completely private. We would certainly stay here again, and would recommend this as a haven for anyone seeking comfort and joy in the region!
Just overall a really nice place. Will definitely stay there when I return to Bellingham.
Owners were very nice and gave us a tour of the property.
Our Property is on a No Motor Flyfishing Only Lake. Guests Can Use Our Row Boat to Enjoy a Walden Pond Experience. Pls note we have a two night minimum and our property is for the use of two adults renting the cottage. It is not for extended family members and friends.
