About the property

Waterfront 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Sleeps 6, Boat Dock, Hot Tub, SUP, WiFi, Dogs OK

Lake Austin waterfront is a great place to escape all year around. Lake Austin Retreat offers a beautiful Mexican style waterfront property with a boat dock, huge decks and a hot tub situated on a secluded bend of Lake Austin just 20 miles from downtown Austin. Relax, unwind, enjoy the Stand Up Paddle boards, swim, canoe, kayak, bird-watch, fish, or enjoy a spa-treatment at nearby Lake Austin Spa. The house accommodates 6 guests, and the spacious back yard offers an abundance of outdoor space for socializing, BBQ'n, playing or enjoying quiet hammock-time. Bring your boat and ski (boats can be moored at the dock but no boat lift is available), or lounge by the water's edge and drink in the view of the Golden Cheeked-Warbler habitat directly across the lake. You will love taking advantage of the most peaceful stretch of Lake Austin. Mornings are not to be missed. Grab your coffee or tea and watch the morning fog pull back revealing a glass-like surface that mirrors the rolling hills above. Just 35 Miles from the new F-1 Track in Austin, 20 miles from SXSW and ACL Festival.

About David M. Gottfried

I moved to Austin in 1992 and found the city where I will live for the rest of my life. I purchased this house in 1995 so I could water ski before work and found so much more than just a place to live. I found that the lake living lifestyle gave me activities and tranquility that add so much to my quality of life. My two daughters and I love to stay at our lake house when guests are not there as a mini-vacation from hustle and bustle of our lives in central Austin.

David M. Gottfried purchased this house in 1995

Why David M. Gottfried chose Austin

My love of being on the water and waterskiing before work in the morning drove me to purchase this wonderful house on Lake Austin in 1995. I lived in the house full-time until 1999, when I moved to central Austin to be closer to work.

What makes this house unique

The area across the lake from the house is a Golden Cheeked Warbler Habitat so it is completely undeveloped. The view from the 600 sf deck on top of the boat dock is just beautiful with an undeveloped 'mountain' (by Austin standards) instead of houses. Evenings and early mornings on the deck are particularly magical.

Absolutely loved it

  • 5 of 5

This was my first experience with HomeAway or anything like it. There were a few little things that could be corrected but it was perfect for us. Clean, well stocked, beautiful, good beds, fantastic shower and the water access, hot tub, kayaks, canoe, SUPs were all used at least once, pushing my comfort zone on my 71st Birthday but making me feel like a kid again and that I really need to keep having fun and that I still can. One of my favorite things is that there were no houses across the lake and having our tea/coffee out on the dock and then meditating was the absolute best way to start the day. Thank you, thank you!

Backyard was amazing!!

  • 5 of 5

The house is just as pictured. The backyard was amazing. So nice to have kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards available to go out on the water. Would return to this location again next time I’m in Austin.

We very much enjoyed being on the water all weekend on Labor Day 2017

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the view of the water, the decks, and various boats available to play on the water. The house was nice, cool and we could cook our meals. While there were plenty of beds, they were too soft to be comfortable. The maintenance of the house is very good.

Beautiful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated my husband's 50th birthday at this beautiful serene property. We were pleased with how well stocked the home was from dishes, pans etc to board games! We fished and swam in the refreshingly cool water of Lake Austin and were sad to have to leave! We will most definitely be back.

Tranquility on the water

  • 4 of 5

My family of 4 plus 3 dogs stayed on a Sunday - Thursday at this quaint house. It is located on the beautiful and chilly Lake Austin just a few doors down from the Lake Austin Spa and Resort. I recommend staying during the week if you are looking for calm mornings and quiet down-time. This lake gets very busy with boats and people blasting loud music on weekends. The house was well appointed with ample linens, towels, toilet paper, etc. However, if you are a foodie and enjoy cooking, bring your own spatulas, spices, hot sauces and nicer kitchen wares with you. Don't bother hauling food from home...there is a very nice grocery store just up the road. If you enjoy fishing, bring your fishing gear, as there is everything you need for water play fun; kayaks, canoes, SUP boards, pool noodles, etc., but no fishing gear. This is Texas, so also pack the mosquito spray. We look forward to returning in the future, especially now that we know what to bring. My only big complaint was that housekeeping may be disgruntled, as the floors hadn't been mopped in a while and flooring under beds, couches, needed vacuuming. If I could have found a mop or vacuum...I would have tackled it myself. The location is WONDEFUL and you will surely enjoy your time here.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review of our home and for letting me know during your stay that the house needed some additional cleaning. I have addressed your comments with the woman who cleans the house and have some new checks and balances put in to our procedures for getting the house ready. The summer months are particularly busy at our house making quick flips of the house difficult from a cleaning perspective. However, we do need to do a better job and are on it. I was surprised to hear about the kitchen lacking spatulas and spices so apparently some have walked off. We are on that as well and we look forward to your return. David
