Great Under Adversity

  • 5 of 5

Our group came to Sandbridge the extremely rare week it rained 15 inches. Schools were closed, some roads were blocked, and many restaurants closed too. Sewers were backed up.... challenging. The ground floor of Great Escape was a bit soaked when we arrived. Tara was extremely helpful and accommodating to give our group the best possible experience, with fans, dehumidifier, even permission to move mattresses upstairs. We had a wonderful time, loving the beach, witnessing a beautiful wedding on the beach the same weekend, taking turns cooking gourmet meals, building a 3-D puzzle that was in the closet (it took days to complete), enjoying the kayaks off the dock and in the ocean. Despite the challenges, we DEFINITELY look forward to future visits to Great Escape and Sandbridge. Tara deserves highest marks for her responsiveness, great communication, and going the extra mile under adversity.

Extremely satisfied and refreshed vacationer!!😃

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was outstanding!! We had 10 adults and a 1 year old infant. The weather was outstanding and and sunny so the AV was a must!! We all enjoyed the cool house from time to time and slept comfortably at night. we used the pool table a ton so that was a huge plus!! We spent time at the pool every day. The pool area was very well kept. The kitchen was very clean. We ate at the house every day. Even grilled out a couple of times! We had very good experiences with Tara who called to let us know that some repairs were going to be made during our stay. The plumbing was worked on Monday and the downstairs bedroom ceiling was repaired. Both repairmen were courteous and worked quickly. The beach was a great morning walk for the whole crew! Everyone very much so enjoyed their stay! We will definately return next year!!

Misleading-I ran out of space in the body but just know the house is old&Tara agreed needs updating

  • 1 of 5

Well, I want to begin by saying the property manager was very nice to us@first.

At first glance the house looks like a great place to spend a week in w/ family. There's a pretty big pool in the back w/ outdoor seating, & a small inlet w/ a mix of fresh&salt water perfect for fishing.

In our first tour of the house we noticed a wet smell in the basement area but nothing too bad. Upstairs was fine a little warm overall bc the air conditioning was off. Very clean&well furnished. Once we were all packed in the house we turned on the air which did not seem to cool the house down so we opted for opening the windows&balcony doors as there was a storm in the works the breeze was amazing. The windows however were not. They are old style turn windows⪯tty much every single one living room, kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms was broken&did not open &/or shut properly. For bed time we tried the AC again still w/ no luck so we opted for the windows/doors. Well that worked for the first few nights but eventually it warmed up outside⁢ was unbearably hot in the house. When we called the manager she came out✓ed it&told us told us that we need to keep it at 68≤ave all the doors/windows closed. That did not work we called her that night&she repeated that we must leave it at 68 all doors shut if it wasn't better in the morning she would contact a repair man. Well needless to say it was one of the WORST nights of sleep my family has ever had it was over 80 in the noone slept that night. The next day my husband (an electrician) checked the unit& saw the switch was turned off&the cover had come off probably the wind (from the storm) must have caused that. When going over complaints w/ Tara she eluded that we were the reason the switch was off-she actually blamed us for almost all of the problems in the home. 2nd major issue the master tub leaked into the room below&a plumber was sent to the home at 9PM& when we sent him away, she was mad. Other issues: Ants all over-ant traps all over kitchen (she said it was bc we left food everywhere we didn't+ its a kitchen!), pool wasn't clean when we got there-no one came until 2nd to last day, the grill stopped working, the front glass door if locked & would not unlock, When we called her up the night before we left the prop manager had a major attitude. She said that we are impossible to please& harassing her, and she hung up on me. Tara stayed in the home the week before&she was aware of pretty much all of this.

Owner's Response: This review is extremely unfortunate and unwarranted. The guests checked in on Saturday and we had a large storm that same day. So when they arrived there were leaves in the pool from the storm. When the pool guy had gone out 3 times that week trying keep the pool to there liking the pump was turned off every time. The guests continued to turn the pump to pool off. The pool person lives near house and checks on pool. The guests were in the pool everyday. The first call did not come until Monday morning(Labor Day) and they stated they took a bath and there was a leak in downstairs bedroom. I went over within 15 minutes of call and checked the issue. While I was there all windows were opened and air was off. I explained they needed to shut all windows and turn air on and give it time to cool back down. The next call from them came at 9PM Tuesday night about air conditioning at this time it was too late to get anyone at house. The next morning I called HVAC out to fix issue and when I called to let guests know they already found the breaker outside was off and they switched it on. This was fixed within 12 hours not 2 days!! When I sent a maintenance man in to check tub issue he was sent away at 11:00 in the morning because someone was sleeping in the room. When I was able to get a plumber down there it was at 7:30 at night NOT 9. He was going to fix the next morning and the guests refused to let him fix it. So it was repaired the day the left. When the cleaning crew came on Saturday to clean the house it was left a nasty mess. There was so much food on the walls in the drawers EVERYWHERE! The house was left EXTREMELY nasty! My only hope is that you read all the wonderful reviews I have and do not go by this unfortunate review. It saddens me that I could not please them however I do not think it was possible. We love our Great Escape home and we keep it clean and do updating every year. New kitchen New bathrooms New fence. Please if you have any questions please feel free to ask me. I (Tara) love our guests and love my job. We have many many return guests every year that can contest to that.

Amazing Family Vacation in a beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Great Escape! My party included 6 adults and a 1 year old. The grounds were well kept and the inground pool in the backyard was clean and amazing.. we were in that pool several times a day every day!

The beach was a very easy walk.. and remember i had a 1 year old in tow! The beach its self was beautiful, not rocky at all... though at night lots of crabs on the beach.. made for lots of fun trying to catch them!

Tara (the owner) was amazing to deal with.. very responsive.. while we had no issues during our stay.. any time i had to contact her prior to our vacation i always had a response within hours.

Home is huge, we had bedrooms we didn't even use! My family enjoyed also using the kayaks in the canal which were a blast.

Very much recomend this property..we will very likely be back in the future!

Great place for families with children

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at the Great Escape, and it was just what we needed for multiple families with kids. We had 8 adults and 6 kids and there was plenty of room for everyone. Tara was very accommodating throughout the process and was available to answer any of our questions immediately. The photos do not really do this place justice, and after reviewing the pictures, I noticed there is a new wooden kitchen table with bench seating for the little ones. We were able to sit all 14 of us comfortably around the table. The layout is perfect for everyone to have their own space if they want some privacy and has plenty of areas to gather with everyone together. The house is situated very close to the beach, and the canal is absolutely beautiful and great for fishing! I would definitely consider this property for future vacations.

Perfect place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a family of 11 stay here for a week. The house was beautiful, roomy and very relaxing. The neighborhood was really quiet and nice, and we enjoyed walking there in the evenings. We spent a lot of our time in the pool and on the deck, which was a blast. The beach was a very short walk away, which was great with having 2 little ones. We all really enjoyed ourselves and our time there just flew by. We would all love to go back, and would definitely like to stay here again in the future. Thank you to Tara for her wonderful hospitality! :)
