LENNI OR DON purchased this cabin in 2004
Beautiful mountains in ranching country with a year round flowing stream where the Deer and Elk roam. Lakes and
streams close by for fishing. also, centrally located to a lot
of interesting things to see and do.
No city noises, peaceful and beautiful. The Native Americans called this area 'The Long Look' because it was
so beautiful, they had to take a 'long look'.
This is the fourth time I've sought refuge with Lennie and Don at the Long Look, returning for the annual Plein Air Event in Victor. The distance I must travel pales in comparison to the relief and relaxation that awaits me at this cozy cabin. Each morning as I head out I am restored! My wife joined me at the end of a busy week during my first stay and fell in love with the Dilts, their hospitality and the comfort and convenience of their cabin. Over the next two years we have brought a granddaughter with us, and this year we shared this escape with our 87 year old father. He can't wait to get back! We return for the peacefulness, the feeling of being rejuvenated, and most of all because of the Grace of our hosts.
Don and Lenni were very gracious hosts. Although we arrived a bit after dark, their directions were impeccable and we had no problem finding them! Upon our arrival, they took us to the cabin and explained some basic locations of things, operation of a couple of things, and let us get settled in.
This cabin was perfect for our family of four. it was small enough to be quaint and just big enough to be comfortable. The furniture, including the beds, are very comfortable, and the well water is excellent! The cabin is very clean. Don't expect a hotel room, you are in a cabin...there is a "home" feel to this place that gives it it's charm.
There are a ton of games to play, books to read, and if all else fails, they have satellite TV, a dvd/vcr player, and a small selection of movies to choose from. But, you are not there for that! The views are great, and Don and Lenni are great to talk to if you catch them around the area. Lenni recommended some short little walks around the property that would be easy for kids.
The area is very quiet, as you are removed from the county road. The cabin sits next to a small stream, under some willows...very relaxing to listen to at night.
Although the cabin is in a rural location, you are not far from attractions such as the Florissant Fossil Beds, Canon City, and Guffey, the closest town. They have a couple of restaurants and bars in Guffey. Although we didn't do it, there are apparently good hiking trails in the area as well.
We will definitely be back, and will stay longer! Definitely a good choice.
Truly relaxing. Secluded, in the country, cabin was immaculate actually so much more than what I had imagined. 100 percent satisfied with our stay. Don and Lenni were extremely hospitable and respected our privacy on a grand level..
My family really enjoyed our stay. The scenery was beautiful and the owners were friendly. Even though their house was extremely close to the rental, they truly respect your privacy. There were great hiking paths very close to the property. The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is the long drive to civilization. The cabin truly is secluded which is great when you want a get away, but you do have to drive 45 to an hour for activities such as rafting. Overall, very pleased and would refer friends and family.
We enjoyed our stay as it was quite, peaceful, and secluded. Cabin had absolutely everything we needed and more.
Don, Lennie were very responsive prior to our arrival with directions and any questions we had, and they were gracious hosts during our stay.
To say we were pleased with the cabin would be a huge understatement. This was a trip of a lifetime and we will be coming back very soon!
The cabin itself is very comfy and accommodating. It was perfect for just my wife and I but it would also be just as perfect if we had brought our two kids (12 and 7) and large dog with us. The cabin has everything you need to cook (bring your own consumables), play games (board games galore and crochet), watch classic movies or simply sitting on the porch and healing the mind body and soul.
The property is well shaded with a small yard in the front to hang out and prepare for your adventure packed days. It is attached to the main house so this may not be the place for a bunch of rowdy teens to have their party fueled getaway but it is a perfect place for a family, couple, writer, painter, day dreamer or adventure seeker.
The location made it perfect for us to do and see so much in our 5 days. I won't bore you with all majestic details of our trip but it is worth pointing out that we were able to see the Garden of the Gods, Royal Gorge by Train, Pikes Peak by Car, Cave of the Winds, Cripple Creek for some gambling and a tour of the mine, Maintou Springs for a hot spring spa treatment and St Mary's Glacier. These were all done by making day trips. We were able to wake up, have breakfast, pack some lunch, go do our touristy stuff and be back to make dinner and hang out for the evening. Even the longer drives seem to go so quick with all the wildlife and beauty so don't be afraid to plan that day trip to the National Sand Dunes (we didn't and that is the one thing we regret not doing).
A couple recommendations: Make sure to leave your windows open if you are going during the warmer months. The mountain air is refreshing and healing. Also, leave your bottle water in the car. The well water is delicious.
Thank you Lenni and Don for an amazing time (and for the flowers and card as well)!
