Come and vacation in Boyne City, Michigan! Voted in 2011 as one of the top 10 downtowns in the nation and the best in Michigan in 2010. Michigan also ranked worldwide as No. 3 for undiscovered wine region (2011, Wine Enthusiast Magazine). My home has many decorator touches; all in warm, neutral tones. It will easily & comfortably accommodate 6 w/an option for 2 more. 1.5 blocks from a small, nearly private beach (literally straight down the street). The home is a perfect getaway for families, golfers, snowmobilers, skiers, or for friends who want to relax and enjoy the incredible scenery around Lake Charlevoix . We are an easy and scenic hour's drive to Michigan's wine country.

While the home isn't directly on the lake, the accommodations and amenities offered are exceedingly above average (for more info., please continue reading below). You won't be disappointed in your choice. We invite you to come stay and play in beautiful Boyne City.

Natural surroundings: home is situated on a large lot with natural landscape, woods and wetlands that lead to Lake Charlevoix where deer like to call home. Lots of privacy facing the back/south. The southern exposure provides tremendous amounts of light in the home. Enjoy northern summer nights canopied under the stars in the netted gazebo; safe from the insects, listening to the sounds of summer. Enjoy a comfortable respite lounging on the shaded front porch swing, relaxing in the warm summer breeze.

Lake Charlevoix: A boater's paradise! Partial lake view from the southern exposure. Take the kick boards, cooler, and beach toys to Lake Street Beach, one block straight down the street. If you like water parks, you will love Boyne Mountain's Avalanche Bay. And now, boat rentals are available in town at Boyne Watersports -from kayaks to pontoons to ski boats.

Interior Space: All the comforts and amenities of home in a wide open space. Professionally and tastefully decorated. Large kitchen with more counter top than you'll ever need. A pass-through to the dining room then on to the adjacent living room where guests won't miss the southern view or what might be showing on the TV. Over-sized club chairs or the big comfortable sofa are where you can wrap up your day's adventures. A split floorplan offers maximum privacy with the dining and living rooms separating en suite master bedroom and guest sleeping quarters.

About Karen McKinnon

I spent a lot of my childhood on Lake Charlevoix; spending time at both my maternal grandparent's summer cottage and with my father's family-all on the south arm of the lake. It was my dream to come back to this lake where so many wonderful memories were created and have a place of my own. So I found some land in Boyne City where there is much to do year 'round and decided to put a vacation home here.

Karen McKinnon purchased this house in 2008

Why Karen McKinnon chose Northern Michigan

This land was chosen for the location; only one mile from town, a block and a half from one of several beaches in Boyne and a nearly private setting with seasonal lake views. There are cedar trees all around the property, the lot is wooded along Lake Street with wetlands in the back. It was important to me to keep the integrity of the watershed and in order to mitigate damage to the wetlands, a biologist was hired to ensure that the impact would be minimal. The land is kept very natural and the setting is quiet and relaxing.

Worth the visit

  • 4 of 5

4 out of 5 stars only because there was no air conditioning and we were there during a very hot week. The ceiling fans and box fans were much appreciated (we brought 2 small fans with us and used them every night). The kitchen was spacious and well equipped; we were also able to grill outside several times. Our almost 10-year old Lab enjoyed going down to the small public beach area, as did our grand daughters. We found the Wednesday farmers market to be well stocked and we purchased numerous fresh fruits and vegetables. We easily made day trips to Charlevoix, Petoskey and Traverse City from this location. The owner Karen was pleasant to work with, and responded to questions quickly - We would definitely recommend this property

Owner's Response: I'm so glad you had such a wonderful time and I would love to host you again. I know this summer has been incredibly hot and we sure could have used an air conditioner. Normally the summers are not quite so hot. Thank you much for the review! I appreciate it

Relaxing and worry-free

  • 5 of 5

Family of four, we had a great 5-night stay. The house is well-maintained and set up to be easily settled into.

Spacious, and lots of places, inside and out, to sit, relax, chat. We were able to charcoal grill one night, the kitchen is set up well to enable easy cooking (everything you need except the food!).

Overall, a great place to stay in Boyne City and the surrounding.

Very comfortable and spacious accommodations

  • 5 of 5

Our group of four enjoyed our stay so much that we will be coming back for another visit. The house has really everything you need except your personal items and food; a well-stocked spice cabinet and plenty of cooking pans and untensils. Town is only a mile away and the mountain is about 10 minutes' drive. We went into Petoskey too and it was only 20 minutes' drive. Very convenient to everything. Can't wait to come back!

Outstanding fall long weekend

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect for our needs (4 adults and 2 children). Kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. Dog park two blocks away was a real plus giving our pooch plenty of time, space and friends to wear himself out. Fall colors were at their peak too!

WONDERFUL HOME!

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at The Preserve. The new kitchen floors are fantastic. My wife and I along with our two dogs enjoyed taking in all that the area has to offer. Boyne City and Charleviox are two great cities to visit. Plenty of shops and outdoor activities for anyone to enjoy. One of the best parts was being able to stay in an actual home every night and have plenty of space to unwind. Comfortable beds and a cozy living room with a full kitchen. We had our morning coffee sitting on the front porch swing while we enjoyed the cool morning air. We'll definitely be back!
