Come and vacation in Boyne City, Michigan! Voted in 2011 as one of the top 10 downtowns in the nation and the best in Michigan in 2010. Michigan also ranked worldwide as No. 3 for undiscovered wine region (2011, Wine Enthusiast Magazine). My home has many decorator touches; all in warm, neutral tones. It will easily & comfortably accommodate 6 w/an option for 2 more. 1.5 blocks from a small, nearly private beach (literally straight down the street). The home is a perfect getaway for families, golfers, snowmobilers, skiers, or for friends who want to relax and enjoy the incredible scenery around Lake Charlevoix . We are an easy and scenic hour's drive to Michigan's wine country.
While the home isn't directly on the lake, the accommodations and amenities offered are exceedingly above average (for more info., please continue reading below). You won't be disappointed in your choice. We invite you to come stay and play in beautiful Boyne City.
Natural surroundings: home is situated on a large lot with natural landscape, woods and wetlands that lead to Lake Charlevoix where deer like to call home. Lots of privacy facing the back/south. The southern exposure provides tremendous amounts of light in the home. Enjoy northern summer nights canopied under the stars in the netted gazebo; safe from the insects, listening to the sounds of summer. Enjoy a comfortable respite lounging on the shaded front porch swing, relaxing in the warm summer breeze.
Lake Charlevoix: A boater's paradise! Partial lake view from the southern exposure. Take the kick boards, cooler, and beach toys to Lake Street Beach, one block straight down the street. If you like water parks, you will love Boyne Mountain's Avalanche Bay. And now, boat rentals are available in town at Boyne Watersports -from kayaks to pontoons to ski boats.
Interior Space: All the comforts and amenities of home in a wide open space. Professionally and tastefully decorated. Large kitchen with more counter top than you'll ever need. A pass-through to the dining room then on to the adjacent living room where guests won't miss the southern view or what might be showing on the TV. Over-sized club chairs or the big comfortable sofa are where you can wrap up your day's adventures. A split floorplan offers maximum privacy with the dining and living rooms separating en suite master bedroom and guest sleeping quarters.

About Karen McKinnon
I spent a lot of my childhood on Lake Charlevoix; spending time at both my maternal grandparent's summer cottage and with my father's family-all on the south arm of the lake. It was my dream to come back to this lake where so many wonderful memories were created and have a place of my own. So I found some land in Boyne City where there is much to do year 'round and decided to put a vacation home here.
Karen McKinnon purchased this House in 2008
Why Karen McKinnon chose Boyne City
This land was chosen for the location; only one mile from town, a block and a half from one of several beaches in Boyne and a nearly private setting with seasonal lake views. There are cedar trees all around the property, the lot is wooded along Lake Street with wetlands in the back. It was important to me to keep the integrity of the watershed and in order to mitigate damage to the wetlands. The land is kept very natural and the setting is quiet and relaxing.
What makes this House unique
The home is still in the city limits but has a country-like setting. There are bikes for guest use. The ride into town is only one mile; a great distance for going to Kilwins for an ice-cream or just a nice ride around the area.

Perfect location, very clean, very comfortable...
A group of us stayed at this rental for a cycling event in Boyne City. Everything we experienced was exactly how it was described. The house is clean and has all the amenities you could ask for. We would definitely stay again and would recommend this rental to others.
Dean and friends,
Thank you for choosing my home when there are many other places to consider. I'm really glad you had such a positive experience. Details are important to me because I know what I like and my guests seem to be very appreciative of them as well. It was my pleasure to accommodate you all. You are welcome back any time!
The location was perfect for our long ski weekend. The house was clean, provided everything we needed, the kitchen was roomy and well equipped, and we very much enjoyed our stay.
Loved this house!
This is a wonderful house and it has a great layout. It seems like a new house and is clean and beautifully decorated. Six adults stayed here for a wedding and it was extremely comfortable. The backyard is beautiful and our only regret is that we didn't have more time here. The owner is extremely nice and helpful! We hope to be back!
Nice house and enjoyable weekend
A group of us stayed at the preserve for a weekend of golf and to enjoy Boyne City. The house is ~20 minute walk from bars and restaurants downtown and even closer to the water. The house was spotless when we arrived, nicely arranged, and feels like a fresh new modern house. It was easy to get in and had plenty of creature comforts. We enjoyed our stay and would likely stay again!
Enjoyed the week. Home met our needs very well. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Only one issue. The garbage pick up was Wednesday but trash was already in the wire mesh bin upon check in on Saturday. Animals, probably raccoons, manage to still rip into bags every night necessitating re-bagging. No fun rebadging other folks' trash. I would have been happy to take bagged trash out Tuesday night if instructed.
I'm glad your group liked the home and enjoyed your stay in Boyne City. Hopefully you will have the opportunity to come and visit again. Unfortunately, there have been rare occasions when an animal has ripped through the garbage after a prior check-out. I will never expect a guest to dispose of a prior guest's garbage. I leave that to the cleaning service after their check-out (unless the guest themselves has placed their trash in the secured bin). It is an unfortunate situation that you tidied up; normally this does not happen. However, I appreciate your meticulousness both in and outside the home. You were terrific guests and are welcome back in my home anytime.
A great summer stay at the Preserve.
The house had everything we needed. The location is so handy to the beaches and the Young State park. Downtown area is minutes away. The house was very clean .and laid out perfectly. You can see the tv while preparing food.I would stay there again .The owner is personable and great to help you with any questions you have.
One and a half blocks from Lake Charlevoix for swimming, boating, sailing, and fishing. Seven miles to Boyne Mountain and less than 20 minutes from Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Bay Harbor.
Other Activities: Young State Park is 1.7 miles northwest/ Ziplining at two different locations.
