Guestbook comments from the owner

I feel that I must reply to your review of our Parlor apartment to counter your comments. First of all we were gone on vacation in Europe and didn't arrive home until two days before you departed. The pacing upstairs was due to getting in very late from the airport and unpacking. Secondly ,Our neighborhood is very convenient with a large shopping area with plenty of places to buy food or dine, if one chooses to explore. Thirdly,I don't believe that I was intrusive since I politely knocked and asked if I could get some coffee filters for our other guests. You seemed quite responsive to me being there for less than a minute. The first knock was to introduce ourselves and ask if you were comfortable. The room next to you is my Art studio thatI entered to open a window and promptly left .I made a point not to work there while you were there, besides, it was too hot to be creative in the first place....Other than that we honored your privacy to the utmost. Excellent choice for a stay in Brooklyn

  • 5 of 5

The parlour apartment on the ground floor of a brownstone in Bedford Stuyvestant is wonderful. It was spacious enough for our family of four that includes two teenage boys, and is only a two block walk to the A and C trains that take you directly to Manhattan in half hour or less. We also enjoyed exploring the Brooklyn Heights / Atlantic Avenue area which is even closer.

The apartment is warm and comfortable, amply furnished with eclectic and interesting art pieces. There is beautiful wood detailing in the apartment and building. The queen beds are comfortable and pocket doors afford privacy between the two rooms if desired. The kitchen is well equipped for basic cooking. David greeted us on arrival and reminded us of parking restrictions due to street cleaning. Even with that, street parking is easy to find. We also enjoyed a few neighborhood restaurants - Saraghina's for pizza and Angela's for Caribbean comfort food.

All in all, an apartment with lots of personality in a safe and interesting neighborhood close to Manhattan.

Awesome experience!

  • 5 of 5

Old friends David and Jacqui gifted my wife and I a couple nights in their brownstone as a wedding gift over 8 years ago. We finally got around to making it a priority to go ( all the way from Michigan) and spend some time to explore and enjoy all that NY (and I mean Brooklyn) has to offer. David and Jacqui know the area well and have the unique ability to make you feel at home within minutes of arriving. We had the opportunity to stay in their Parlor apartment and it had everything you could possibly need: a great bed, window air conditioning, a great shower / tub and a kitchen to warm up leftovers. We went to enjoy the culture of Brooklyn and this brownstone is in the heart of it. Located on a street that is registered as historic to the Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood (Bed–Stuy to the rest of us) Jaqui and David's brownstone served as a perfect home base for our daily excursions around Brooklyn. The neighborhood is friendly, safe and close to the subway. There is great neighborhood dining and coffee options within walking distance and tons of things to do within a short taxi or Uber ride if you don't want to walk or take the subway. We fit in a trip to the Brooklyn food market (Smorgasburg), the Fort Green Flea Market, a small sampling of the ethnic restaurants in the area (Mexican, Vietnamese, Italian American) and a classic american breakfast at Tom's (look it up). David and Jacqui also accompanied us to an unbelievable night of classic jazz located just a short walk away at the Sankofa Aban B&B for their Brownstone Jazz Series which was the highlight of our trip. We loved our three days in Bed–Stuy and really felt staying and exploring the neighborhood (we didn't cross the bridge to Manhattan during our stay) was worth it as we felt more like rested locals than the frantic tourists. We can't wait to find the time to visit again for at least three nights in order to explore, eat and enjoy more of what this historic borough has to offer.

Beautiful Brownstone Neighborhood!

  • 5 of 5

David and Jacqui have created a warm and inviting atmosphere in their Parlor apartment! The neighborhood is lovely; safe and close to the subway. Great neighborhood dining and coffee options within walking distance! David and Jacqui know their neighborhood and the city well and are willing to share their knowledge of the rich history this area offers.

We loved our stay here and hope to make this our home away from home whenever we visit this beautiful Burrough.

Great eclectic space in the heart of Brooklyn

  • 4 of 5

Had a great time in this apartment close to local metro. Lots of space with well equipt kitchen so you can eat in if needed with local grocery just a few blocks away. We rented two apartments with another family so was great as kids could catch up between spaces yet we both had our own space to stay comfortably. Would recommend for families travelling. Peaches was a great local place to eat which we really enjoyed.

Owner's Response: Anonymous Bosh, Thanks for the review We really appreciate your input. We could tell that your stay was worthwhile considering you were only two floors from your friends and the children could hang out and enjoy the box of Legos that we have for their building skills. Hope that you may consider coming again in the future. Our best wishes , David and Jacqui

Clean accommodations with good access to Manhattan

  • 3 of 5

Parlor apartment was relatively spacious and clean. It is a short walk to subway. Neighborhood is marginal, very few provisions nearby. We found the host David to be intrusive, lots of pacing back and forth overhead late at night and early in the morning. And in and out of the front room that we were next to. I am not used to apartment living so I found this disruptive. One day David knocked twice on the door, we let him in as he was looking for coffee filters? I have never have an owner enter the property before on various vrbo stays. It was extremely uncomfortable and we used the chain latch the rest of the time as I was afraid he would come barging in. On a positive note, any future vrbo stays I will ask in advance about the likelihood of owner entering the rented space for any reason aside from an emergency.

Owner's Response: Sorry to have interrupted your stay, but I must add that it was only once that I knocked and you were more than understanding to help out and I immediately left. The option to not answer was solely yours and it's not due to the lack of courtesy. I did knock and didn't just barge in. I would have apologized immediately If you thought I invaded your space.Thank you.
