I feel that I must reply to your review of our Parlor apartment to counter your comments. First of all we were gone on vacation in Europe and didn't arrive home until two days before you departed. The pacing upstairs was due to getting in very late from the airport and unpacking. Secondly ,Our neighborhood is very convenient with a large shopping area with plenty of places to buy food or dine, if one chooses to explore. Thirdly,I don't believe that I was intrusive since I politely knocked and asked if I could get some coffee filters for our other guests. You seemed quite responsive to me being there for less than a minute. The first knock was to introduce ourselves and ask if you were comfortable. The room next to you is my Art studio thatI entered to open a window and promptly left .I made a point not to work there while you were there, besides, it was too hot to be creative in the first place....Other than that we honored your privacy to the utmost. David and Jacqui
Parlor apartment was relatively spacious and clean. It is a short walk to subway. Neighborhood is marginal, very few provisions nearby. We found the host David to be intrusive, lots of pacing back and forth overhead late at night and early in the morning. And in and out of the front room that we were next to. I am not used to apartment living so I found this disruptive. One day David knocked twice on the door, we let him in as he was looking for coffee filters? I have never have an owner enter the property before on various vrbo stays. It was extremely uncomfortable and we used the chain latch the rest of the time as I was afraid he would come barging in. On a positive note, any future vrbo stays I will ask in advance about the likelihood of owner entering the rented space for any reason aside from an emergency.
Our recent stay at David and Jaqui's charming brownstone could not have been more lovely! The beautifully decorated Parlor Apartment, super friendly and helpful hosts, proximity to the subway making it easy to get into the City, and being only one block from our daughter's apartment combined to make our stay perfect. After a busy day of exploring it was so nice to have a cozy, well appointed "home away from home" to come back to and hang out with our daughter and her roommate. We loved visiting all the wonderful places in the neighborhood - Ms Dahlia's Cafe (chicken and waffles), Le Paris Dakar (crepes), Breukelen Cellars (small but wonderful wine selection), and Carib Food Market (open 24 hours). We hope to stay here again on out next visit.
A very calm and neat and cosy appartement. As a family of 5 we were really at ease with sort of two rooms than you can isolate from one another plus a small kitchen and a bathroom.
The apartment is close to A and C lines which enable to reach Manhattan in 30 minutes or so (except during the week end when they fix the tunnel over east river)
David and Jaqui are very helpful and nice during the stay
I just finished a very nice stay at this apartment with my two teen boys. It was very roomy and clean and so much better than getting a hotel room! Conveniently located to the subway (less than a 5 minute walk) and only took us 15 minutes to get to Downtown Manhattan. Great little bar a block away (Vodou Bar) where I met a friend one evening in addition to a quaint little French café where we enjoyed delicious croissants and specialty coffees in the morning (Le Paris Dakar). My only disappointment was not getting to know the hosts, David and Jacqui as they are described so nicely in the other reviews! They were out of town most of our stay. I would definitely stay here again!
I thoroughly enjoyed the three nights I spent at Jacqui and David's lovely Brooklyn brownstone. Not only was it very close to the street where my daughter lives, but also my apartment was quiet, peaceful, and lovingly decorated. Staying there was indeed like being a guest in someone's home. Although I didn't meet Jacqui, David was a wonderful host, unobtrusive but always ready to chat or offer help (including a member's pass to The Whitney!). I will definitely stay there again.
The owners were very nice and tried to be helpful. The place was very clean. Pictures are a good representation. The neighborhood put a huge damper on our overall trip. I was with 3 teenage girls and we were very afraid to walk around after 5pm. Maybe its just us, but I did grow up in Chicago, so used to different neighborhoods. We wanted to explore Brooklyn, but we were too uncomfortable for out safety at night. This really took away from our enjoyment in NY City. The owners were nice, and the place was safe inside. Doors locked with several gates for added protection. We felt safe inside,. Beds a bit too firm for my liking. And we were also disappointed by the amount of time needed to get into Manhattan. The owners underestimated the time on the description. We expected more time to get to our places, but didn't expect that it would take on average 1 hour door to door for our trips to places like Radio City. Summary, nice owners, we are sorry to write this. I wish we had known about the neighborhood in advance and the actual time it took to get to tourist spots. I would have chosen a different place.
