Why Paul Hudson chose Texas Hill Country

Close proximity to Austin, outstanding live water (creek), dramatic elevation changes, beautiful houses, lovely pool and hot spa, lighted tennis/basketball court and other amenities. Paul says, 'when we first previewed the property, it was mostly just for fun because it was too expensive and too 'fancy' for us, but when we walked through the place, crossed the flowing creek and drove up to the overlook on the hill, it took our breath away. We then partnered with our family and found a way to buy it. We are so glad we did!'

What makes this house unique

Unparalleled natural beauty, comfortable accommodations, a multitude of things to do for both children and adults, and quick convenience to Austin and San Antonio!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a fun time here as a family (17 people) staying the week after Christmas. We came from Seattle, Minneapolis, Austin, Bozeman, MT& Lincoln, NE. There was something for everyone! We enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, fishing, hot tubing, playing tennis, hiking, shooting hoops, wildlife spotting, playing cards & cribbage. We also watched lots of football! The house had plenty of room for the adults and the grandchildren enjoyed bunking in the guesthouse. The property is gorgeous. We loved catching up and making memories. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family gathering!

Family Fun at Henly Hill Ranch

  • 5 of 5

Just spent a week at Henly Hill Ranch for a memorable family holiday… thirteen of us, ages 6 months (youngest grandchild) to 96 years old (great-grandfather). The second day, everyone asked if we could come back next year! Now that’s how you know everyone’s having a great time.

The setting was just right for our group who loves the great outdoors. What did we do? We started out day with coffee and hummingbirds in the rockers on the wrap-around porch. Listen to what you hear…it is zero road noise. Absolutely no noise pollution, which is an amazing blessing in this location. We cooked on the huge, oversized grill almost every night. We ate outside on the patio most evenings…ceiling fans and cool breeze outside and no worries about making a mess with the kids. Otherwise, we gathered around the family farm table, with room for all. With extra fridge and space in the guesthouse, we had oodles of room for cooking/supplies. If we had forgotten something, we were allowed to “borrow” from the owner’s well-stocked pantry and then replaced it. We paddle-boated, kayaked and canoed in the river…all supplied and located right on the dock. The grown-up guys fly fished everyday and the little ones fished from the concrete dock. Everyone caught and released multiple fish each day. Getting in and out of the boats is so easy since concrete steps lead right down into the water. It’s amazing to glide in the clear water where fish are swimming below, and then to look up at the amazing cliffs that tower above. We swam…multiple times a day at the pool…what a great pool. Loved sitting out at night viewing the stars or making s’mores in the oversized fireplace under the pavilion. We hiked/walked/jogged around the property. Don’t miss the view from the top looking back down on the ranch. Plus, when you explore you are treated to an up-close look at the buffalo and longhorns! And of course, the tennis court was the sight of dodge-ball games as well as relay races. All equipment provided!

There’s so much room to spread out…and all adult couples were especially happy with this house because no one had to fight for a king bed! Plenty for everyone since there are 4 kings. Not only can you spread out on the property with multiple houses, you can also spread out in the Main House, multiple sitting spaces. Get yourself a Blokus game and gather the adults after kids go to bed. You’ll be up way past your bedtime! Lots of Kodak memories.

Owner's Response: I really LOVE this review! Thank you so much for posting it. I appreciate the great detail you included from the hummingbirds to the kayaks to the fish to the dodge-balls (my kids and nieces and nephews love playing dodge-ball on the tennis court at night under the lights). We take great care to make sure there are plenty of things to do. I hope y'all used the new horseshoe pits. And thank you for the ping pong table!!! I know our family and guests will get a lot of use out of it, and it will be there waiting for your family when you return! Thanks again. Cheers!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5

This was a great place to hold our family reunion. We had people fly in from Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina. There were 14 adults and 5 children, ranging in age from 4 months to 92 years. We were a little worried about the 100 degree temperatures, but thankfully there was a lot of wind which saved us. Everyone enjoyed the swimming pool and paddles boats. Thank you for having the pools toys and life jackets for the kids to use. Really enjoyed watching the deer & wild turkeys in the evening and hiking the hills to see the cattle and the sunsets. The little kids had a fun time fishing in the creek and throwing them back. Lots of reminiscing and laughs. It was a wonderful time. Gig 'em Aggies

Owner's Response: Thanks for posting this great review! We hosted my wife's family's reunion there the very next weekend and also had a blast. The deer and turkey came to the feeder every morning and evening, and the longhorns and buffalo even came down off the hill once. It's amazing how the breeze blows through the valley every day to help make the heat tolerable. Frequent dips in the pool help too. I hope you visit us again sometime!

RYR Ranch Reunion was a hit. THANK YOU Henly Hills!

  • 5 of 5

Outstanding property! We held a ranch reunion for 22 adults from across the country. Everything was clean and fully stocked. There is more to do on property than we had time. Accommodations were superb, staff responsive, administration professional and accommodating. We WILL be back. This place is a GEM! You will not be disappointed: a sure bet.

The perfect family reunion setting

  • 5 of 5

We hosted a family reunion at Henly Hill Ranch for out-of-town guests that came from as far away as France. All absolutely loved this Texas-style family reunion setting. The property is beautifully maintained and there's a lot to see and do on property. The very spacious living room area was the perfect setting for catching up with some long-lost relatives, and we all had fun exploring the extensive ranch, too. This one is worth the trip!

Owner's Response: So glad that your family reunion was a big success. We host several reunions (family, church groups, etc.) each year. Henly Hill Ranch is such an optimal place for such gatherings. Just last weekend I hosted a dozen men for our 24th annual "Male Bonding" retreat. We started having the retreats at HHR about 10 years ago and have been there every year since! I hope y'all will join us again in the near future.

Beautiful, clean, relaxing. Large family group with young children really enjoyed this get together. Hiked, canoed, played tennis and hung out in the jacuzzi and around an outdoor fireplace. Highly recommended...
