Paul Hudson purchased this house in 2004
Close proximity to Austin, outstanding live water (creek), dramatic elevation changes, beautiful houses, lovely pool and hot spa, lighted tennis/basketball court and other amenities. Paul says, 'when we first previewed the property, it was mostly just for fun because it was too expensive and too 'fancy' for us, but when we walked through the place, crossed the flowing creek and drove up to the overlook on the hill, it took our breath away. We then partnered with our family and found a way to buy it. We are so glad we did!'
Unparalleled natural beauty, comfortable accommodations, a multitude of things to do for both children and adults, and quick convenience to Austin and San Antonio!
We had a fun time here as a family (17 people) staying the week after Christmas. We came from Seattle, Minneapolis, Austin, Bozeman, MT& Lincoln, NE. There was something for everyone! We enjoyed kayaking, canoeing, paddle boating, fishing, hot tubing, playing tennis, hiking, shooting hoops, wildlife spotting, playing cards & cribbage. We also watched lots of football! The house had plenty of room for the adults and the grandchildren enjoyed bunking in the guesthouse. The property is gorgeous. We loved catching up and making memories. Thanks for providing a wonderful place for our family gathering!
There are places you stay that you thank your lucky stars that the owners are generous enough to share it with you - this is that kind of place! Sure, they receive compensation but we still feel extremely lucky as they share so much with their guests - beautiful & LIGHTED tennis/basketball court, horseshoes, corn hole, pool with jacuzzi, frisbees, stream (with this humongous fish just tantalizing us & refusing to be caught), paddle boat, canoe, kayaks (plus life vests - thank you!), & acres upon acres to hike! Everyone can find something to do! [Plus it's all there right outside your doorstep - no added fees or carting everyone around town!]. Here's the true test - everyone, young and old, was outdoors doing something & NOT on their phones! We were all busy night and day just having fun with each other! Healthy fun with lots of physical activity! And kids could laugh, call out to each other, run round & just be kids because it's a huge space all to yourselves! We LOVED that the main lodge had big beautiful wrap-around porches & balconies with lots & lots of chairs! Near the pool is also a covered area with a fireplace! All of these spaces allowed those with us who did not want to or could not participate in every activity to be right there with everyone & enjoy it as well! Plus - they were perfect places to hang out with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine & visit! So quiet & peaceful out there on the porch at night - no city lights to interfere with star gazing. Lodge also has lots of seating inside - we were there for our large family Christmas get-together & loved that, for Christmas dinner, we could all sit at tables within view & we could all gather in the large living room to play games. We also had room to set up a folding table for our traditional Christmas puzzle so it didn't take up eating space. Ahhh - the steaks on the wood grill were incredible - my brother is now determined to buy one. Plenty of kitchen utensils, pans, spices etc & appreciated the labelled drawers so we could find everything. Downstairs master was perfect for my husband who had knee surgery & the upstairs master was Texas big! Plenty of room for everyone to sleep in comfort. Loved the homey ranch feel with quilts not fussiness. The lodge outshines the guesthouse but the teens & 20-somethings enjoyed having a place to themselves. We write this gratefully but a bit grudgingly because we (& all we've told) can't wait to come back & hope upon hope it will be available!
This was a great place to hold our family reunion. We had people fly in from Colorado, Wisconsin, Minnesota and North Carolina. There were 14 adults and 5 children, ranging in age from 4 months to 92 years. We were a little worried about the 100 degree temperatures, but thankfully there was a lot of wind which saved us. Everyone enjoyed the swimming pool and paddles boats. Thank you for having the pools toys and life jackets for the kids to use. Really enjoyed watching the deer & wild turkeys in the evening and hiking the hills to see the cattle and the sunsets. The little kids had a fun time fishing in the creek and throwing them back. Lots of reminiscing and laughs. It was a wonderful time. Gig 'em Aggies
As soon as you enter the property you know you chose the right get away. We had an extremely successful family reunion
With ages 17 months to 88 years. We asked for favorite activities and everything was mentioned the pool, Onion creek, hot tub, fishing, the paddle boat, canoe, kayak, ,hiking to the top of the hill , seeing long horn cattle , deer ,, the bison and those wonderful rocking chairs on the porch . And all within a short drive to the grocery and pizza parlors. Forgot to mention all the fun around that round table playing cards and dominos- chicken foot and train. The kitchen is fully furnished ...A fire in the patio with somemoers , a guitar and singing was enjoyed by everyone . So much fun we booked it for next year!!!!!!
This was our third stay at this site. Our family loves Henly Hill as it is the perfect location for an annual reunion. The main "lodge" offers 6 bedrooms with comfortable beds. It has great amenities - pool, hot tub, pool cabana, tennis court with basketball hoops, tetherball, ranch roads and wildlife. They even have yard games! If you want a slower pace, sit on either of the wrap-around porches (upper or lower) and take in the fabulous views.
This is a private site not within views of any neighbors. You and your family do not have to share amenities with other folks. For my wife and I, the creek and kayaking is over the top! We love it. Other family members loved the fishing - bass, perch and catfish!
The house is well stocked and the owners and ranch caretaker are always helpful should you need assistance.
We are considering a fourth year!
We had family wedding in the area and needed space for out of town guests.
Henley Hill was absolutely fantastic. Wonderful accommodations-everyone loved it. And the outdoor space plus activities were so numerous, not a single adult or child was bored!
The kitchen is so well equipped we didn't want for anything, even with the number of people we had.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND HENLEY HILL RANCH.
What a great stay we had. So many different things to do - hiking, pool, tennis (with lights), all sorts of games, boating on your own creek. My large family group was always entertained. Plus the house is fully stocked. You are staying in a functioning home that has everything you could possibly need. There are 4 refrigerators if you count the guest house, which offered a little seclusion if some of the family have little ones. Our favorite activities were the 3 mile hikes on the property that took us to great views, midnight dodgeball, and playing games in the large living area with all 20 family members participating - can't do those things in many places. It was wonderful to be so secluded,a nd to have everyone under one roof. If we had neighbors, we didn't know it. We had a great experience, and were well taken care of by Cynthia, the agent, and Joe, the ranch foreman. Highly recommended.
