About Brett Jarvis

Pocono Dream Cabins is family owned and operated. After moving to the Poconos from NYC, we soon discovered how amazingly beautiful and serene the Poconos truly are--especially considering how close we are to NYC and Philadelphia. Our cabins are approximately 1.5 hours from NYC and 2 hours from Philadelphia. We have had guests from as far away as Holland, and as close as just across the border of New Jersey. Our cabins are fully stocked with all the amenities, including towels and linens.

Brett Jarvis purchased this lodge in 2005

Wonderful cabin retreat

  • 5 of 5

It was everything we hoped for - a warm, spacious log cabin in the woods. It was clean and well kept. Had a storybook week! Would do it again in a heartbeat!

Overall it was very nice

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here with our family from a Mon- Fri in May. The weather was nice .Pennsylvania is beautiful. The house was very nice it was deeply situated in the woods. We had very limited phone and internet service which wasn’t a problem for us but some people might not like that. The kitchen was big and there was enough room for all 9 of us. The only complaints i would have were that the beds were extremely uncomfortable you could feel the springs in the mattresses when u moved in every room no less! The fire pit is in desperate need

Of a facelift it was falling apart with lots of jagged rocks everywhere. The house isn’t very safe for little children. We had our grandchildren who are 4,3 and 2. There is no railing on the outside deck that has a lot of sharp stones all

around it which made us very nervous with the kids out there(along with the fire pit that is falling apart) the inside fireplace is beautiful but had no screens so it’s not very safe to have on with the kids in that room either. Also, we paid for a cleaning service but the bathtub and shower didn’t seem like they were cleaned the shower curtain liner needs to be changed. the headboards in the bedrooms were dusty and there were a lot of cobwebs everywhere and the floors were not washed before we came especially the bathrooms . I understand it’s a cabin in the woods but if you are paying for a cleaning service you should have a clean place. Overall we had a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: Hello Everyone--first off, if you have a problem while you are staying with us, especially cleaning related, *please* let us know while you are at the house. While things may occasionally fall through the cracks, we are very responsive to issues, and my staff is usually very good at getting the houses squeaky clean, as you can see in the vast majority of our reviews. That being said, if it is not right please give us the opportunity to fix it. To address some of these other comments: the house has the fastest DSL internet available in this area. We also supply a land line with unlimited free long distance for your use if your cell doesn't work. We have also just installed a pro-grade cell phone booster at all of our houses which should help people with most carriers get decent cell signal in the house. Beyond that, the pictures show the house, fireplace, deck, and fire pit in detail. The whole point of the fireplace is to have the feeling of a campfire in the middle of the room. I'm not even sure how you would or could put screens around a 4 sided fireplace like this, but it would certainly defeat the purpose. The outdoor fire pit is simply stacked stones, and that is all it ever has been....not sure how one gives it a "facelift" but I digress. A reviewer three reviews down from this one said the beds were "super comfy." The beds are regular beds, not Motel 6 nor the Ritz-Carlton. It would be impractical, and destroy the ambiance of the entire place to put railings and cages everywhere someone might fall, or get burned on a fireplace or wood stove. Folks this is a real cabin in the woods....There are bears and other potentially dangerous wildlife; there are cliffs, crags, swamps, and rocks. If you are looking for the Disney-fied version of a cabin in the woods this is definitely not the place to go, but if you want the real-deal please consider joining the thousands of guests who have enjoyed our houses and the forests around them. Thanks!

Beautiful cabin, great views

  • 5 of 5

One of the nicest places I've ever stayed in. Stayed far warmer than we expected it to given the layout of it. Beds were super comfy. Only thing against it is the steps are kinda scary, especially if you don't have shoes on.

Map

Nearest Airport
70 Miles
Newark, NJ (EWR)
Car: necessary

There is a huge area of public land, lakes, ponds, wetlands, and forest surrounding the property. Nearby you'll find the Mountain Laurel Center with concerts and events, Pecks Pond, where you can see Bald Eagles, rent boats and fish, or eat at the historic Pecks Pond Inn. Lake Wallenpaupack, the third largest body of water in PA, is 20 minutes away. High Knob, one of the highest mountains in the Poconos, is just a few minutes away. Numerous ski areas, golf courses, paintball, boating, hiking, ATV and Snowmobile trails, waterfalls, and more are all in the nearby area. Milford, Stroudsburg, Matamoras, and Hawley are all about 20-30 minutes away. This property is located centrally in the Poconos so you are within a reasonable drive of almost all of the attractions. What is most unique about this property is that it is not in a gated community, unlike most Pocono vacation rentals, so you can enjoy real seclusion while still being close to civilization.

As for skiing, the great thing about this location is that you are right in the middle of most of the Pocono ski areas. We get a lot of skiers who want to visit a different area every day. Tanglewood is only 12 miles away, about a 20 minute drive. You are also within 30 miles of Shawnee, Camelback, Mountain Creek, Big Bear, Alpine Mountain, Fernwood, and even Sno Mountain in Scranton is not out of reach.
