About Terry Van de Geer or Diane Wilkinson

We built this mountain home ourselves and truly enjoy coming out enjoy all the area has to offer. The drive from Calgary is especially pretty through the two mountain parks so that by the time we arrive we are truly relaxed and feel like we have left the hustle and bustle of city life behind us....especially when our friends, the deer are waiting in our yard to welcome us. We are excited to share our home with you and hope that you enjoy yourselves and have a memorable stay.

Terry Van de Geer or Diane Wilkinson purchased this house in 1995

Why Terry Van de Geer or Diane Wilkinson chose British Columbia Mountains

This area is a golf mecca with over 10 courses within a 45 minute radius. Most of these courses are championship courses. We also enjoy the skiing in the winter. The Fairmont Ski Hill is a 10 minute drive away, and is a great place for family downhill skiing. Just down from the Fairmont Ski Hill are the Hot Springs which are fabulous after a day on the slopes. For more challenging slopes Kimberley and Panorama are both an hour away.

What makes this house unique

We really like the fact that you can put on your cross country skis right at the house and ski over to Riverside Golf course, or go down to the road to Columbia Lake. If you don't feel like cooking you can always walk to the restaurant or the pub at Riverside Golf Course, or over to the Farside Pub or hop in your car and go to fine dining at the Hoo Doos Resturant 5 minutes down the road.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hello Terry and Diane:

Just to let you know that we had a great week-end and everything was in perfect order.

We had a group of six people and there was a bed for everyone.

We definitely plan to visit again and tell friends about the cabin.

The only thing we did, over and above your household supplies, was bring eco-friendly household products (i.e. eco detergents and unbleached coffee filters)--we have allergy issues in the family like itchy skin from conventional cleaning products.

Also, my Dad, who is retired from construction, kept walking around the property admiring the recent handiwork. He couldn't believe the attention to detail and workmanship. It definitely shows that your property is a project that's meaningful to you. The wrap around veranda is an all-season treatment--it maximizes the use of the space and gives everybody room to roam (or read). You can sit in the sun or move to the shade.

You could post the property on screen with a 3-D cam that you sometimes see in real estate sites (you can turn the image around 360 degrees). This would showcase the features that make this cabin so workable and wonderful for the entire family.

Thank you for your excellent service,

Bernadette and family

Fabulous Vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of our stay. Diane and Terry were great and everything went smoothly. While there we visited Fairmont hot springs several times and swam and boated in Windermere and Columbia lakes, and paid a visit to Fort Steele. The house was perfect for us - gramma and grampa on the main floor and the young'uns upstairs. We made good use of the BBQ and had a wiener roast in the fire pit. We would highly recommend this property to anyone.

Excellent Vacation Property!

  • 4 of 5

The house is in very good condition, very clean and is located in a nice and quiet place close to all activities Fairmont has to offer.

Description provided by the owner is accurate.

The kitchen has all necessary appliances and utensils to prepare any kind of meal.

Cozy family room with wood fireplace is great for enjoying a glass of wine by a fire after a day of outdoor activities.

We would recommend it to our friends.

My family and I could not have been happier. The booking was hassle free, and the place was as described. Beautiful quiet neighbourhood with a large private yard. The beds were comfortable and the house was clean. The kitchen was well equipped. The place felt like our home away from home. I definitely would recommend this property and plan to stay here again.

Thanks Shawn.

Great Get Away

  • 5 of 5

This location was the awesome serenity in the mountains we needed. Beautiful views, large decks and lots of windows.

The house is nicely decorated, spacious with large bedrooms, bright and very comfortable.

The wrap around deck was excellent to BBQ, relax, enjoy the views, take in the fresh air, see wildlife on and around the property and NO noise from traffic.

A fire pit is also available which we enjoyed outside.

This is a very well kept and maintained home both inside and outside. Attention to detail is remarkable especially regarding cleanliness including the outside BBQ.

Hope this house is available for our next excursion in the Fairmont area = totally recommended.

What a great place!!

  • 5 of 5

What a great location !! Every morning we sat around the kitchen table and watched the sun come up over the mountains while enjoying our first cup of coffee of the day . The location of the house is great you have no noise from the highway and all you can hear are the birds chirping when you open the French doors in the bedroom and we were even blessed with the appearance of a deer just off the front patio by the tree .

Diane and Terry were excellent hosts we found the very clean and well stocked with all amenities of home . They were eager to make sure all of our needs and concerns were addressed . The floor plan of the house is fantastic with a set of French doors in the master bedroom leading on to a great coverd deck and the beds were so great it was like sleeping on a cloud we both had great sleeps !! Also it was great outside with the fire pit and there was no shortage of wood to burn and it was nice to go inside and be able to have a real fire no a natural gas fire . We also found it nice to be able to BBQ and we did every night it was so handy to have the BBQ by the door and every thing worked great !! We would just like to thank Diane and Terry for letting us rent there place and we are looking forward to renting from them again because there is so much to do and we never had enough time !! Your place is like a little heaven on earth !! Thanks again Dennis and Vilma

Good location but funky smell

  • 3 of 5

The place is centrally located being close to golf course and ski hill. The kitchen was well stalked with condiments and fairly clean and there was lots of board games for our 2 grandchildren to enjoy. There's plenty of bedrooms with extra sheets and towels and all the beds were made. In general the house looked like it had been cleaned but not for awhile with dust settled on the floors and the rug in the living room was full of fuzz. They have 2 dryers which were both full of sheets and towels. The BBQ was not cleaned so we had to spend quite a bit if time cleaning it before use. But what was not pleasant was the "funky" smell that was present when we first arrived and then every time we returned. We were able to get rid of it (for awhile) by lighting the living room fireplace and keeping the ceiling fan on. If this smell was dealt with and the place was a little cleaner (BBQ for sure) we would recommend it.

Owner's Response: A positive guest experience is very important to us and for that reason we always provide contact information so that we can deal with any issues during a guests stay. Unfortunately, we did not hear from these guests. We can confirm that there was no smell before or after their stay, so are at a loss to what happened there. The BBQ may have been missed by our cleaning staff as it was in February and not the summer season. We did not have the dryers emptied as this was a last minute 3 day booking and we did not anticipate that they would be doing their laundry during such a short stay. In future we will make sure that the dryer is emptied and the BBQ is checked. We can say that we were there the week before, and there was no dust and that the cleaning was done by our usual staff which you will see in previous reviews has been commented on as very good. Because it is very important to us that our guests have an overall positive experience we had offered compensation for their trouble, which they refused. We hope that despite the above noted concerns, they were able to enjoy their weekend away from home in our home.
