Overview

Ludington Cottage Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Detached Unit, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 11)

The Bunkalow, as the name suggests, is a bungalow cottage combined with a detached bunkhouse. The bungalow sleeps up to 5 and the bunkhouse sleeps an additional 6 persons. The bunkhouse and bungalow must be rented as one unit. The bunkhouse includes a 1/2 bathroom and the bungalow includes one full- (with shower) and one half-bathroom. We have also added a private deck shower that I personally use every time I shower at the property! (Check our reviews - everyone seems to love the deck shower)

The bungalow has a roomy and open floor plan with one full bath and one half bath, a wood-burning fireplace, and a HUGE deck on Hamlin Lake. The bunkhouse also includes a large screen TV and killer sound system. Launch your boat 5 minutes away at Wilson Hill Park (see VRBO map)and dock at the seawall right in front of our property. Boat over to the dunes and have a blast! Free high speed wireless internet, unlimited long-distance phone, and top 100 channels of Charter cable TV with DVRs on each TV. You will not be disappointed with this cottage/lake experience. Check the user reviews on VRBO. We have not had one bad review!

Nearby attractions include:

- Ludington State Park (launch your boat from the cabin and beach on the east dunes of the Park within 5 minutes!)

- Hamlin Grocery (3 miles south of cottage)

- Downtown Ludington (9 miles south of cottage)

About Andrew Murray

Our family loves Hamlin Lake!

Andrew Murray purchased this cottage in 2009

Why Andrew Murray chose Western Michigan

Nothing beats vacationing on the water.

What makes this cottage unique

Water, water, everywhere. What's really cool about Hamlin Lake is that it borders Lake Michigan and Ludington State Park, which means you can boat to the Park and walk to the sandy white beaches on Lake Michigan. Or, you can drive 10 minutes by car and be on the beach. Also, Hamlin Lake is divided into two distinct regions, Upper and Lower, which typically means that if the water is too rough from wind on one part of the lake, you can go to the other part of the lake and it will be much calmer.

Smells terrible

  • 1 of 5

There is a constant out house smell with in the house due to septic not being properly vented I'm guessing. House is very damp with leaky toilets. There were ants all over the counters, floors, and we had them crawling on us in bed. We tried washing the very dirty floors and counters but it did not help the smell. Best part of the vacation was spending time with family and enduring the smell together. We had plenty of laughs about it.

BETTER THEN EXPECTED

  • 5 of 5

I WAS ABLE TO BRING TOGETHER FAMILY AND FRIENDS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY TO STAY AT THE BUNKALOW. NOT REALLY KNOWING WHAT TO EXPECT I AM PLEASED TO SAY IT WAS MUCH MORE THEN I COULD HAVE HOPED FOR. IT WAS CLEAN AND VERY COMFORTABLE WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH OF EVERYTHING THAT WOULD MAKE YOU FEEL AT HOME. THE LAKE WAS EASILY NAVICABLE ON THE PONTOON BOAT WE RENTED NEARBY.

WE EVEN CAUGHT SOME FISH.

FIREWOOD WAS FAIRLY EASY TO FIND AT SEVERAL LOCATIONS NEARBY. WE ALL BONDED SITTING AT THE FIREPIT FOR HOURS IN THE EVENINGS.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO GET AWAY FROM IT ALL IN A SAFE AND FUN ENVIRONMENT --- THIS IS THE PLACE.

Family of 5 and Grandparents

  • 4 of 5

The Bunkalow fit our family's needs with plenty of space for everyone. It was clean and well-stocked with kitchen items and supplies. The teenagers loved the Bunkhouse and having their own space. They also liked the "electronics" amenities - wifi, big screen TV's and sound system. We recommend that the loft area in the bunkhouse be used by the younger crowd as the stairs to the loft are steep. While we were there, we had a minor repair issue and the property manager was very responsive and had things fixed same day.

The waterfront and fire pit were a fantastic place to hang out and relax. We rented a pontoon boat and docked right at the seawall. We were able to explore Hamlin Lake, fish and swim. Location was perfect for all the activities and places we wanted to go (Ludington, Pentwater, Silver Lake). We definitely recommend the property.

great for our extended family

  • 5 of 5

The Bunkalow's two buildings were a perfect setting for our family week in Ludington. We love the town and access to the state park's beaches and trails. We rent a pontoon. In our family, a core of folks stayed the whole week, with one or two dropping in for a day. It worked well to put the 'kid' family in the bunk house and the core of 'first gens' in the main cottage.

It was clean, wifi worked, kitchen was well stocked with pans and dishes. It worked really well for us.

Notes:
Just prior to Summer 2010, we completed our fabulous bunkhouse, which can sleep up to 6 additional persons that are part of the main party renting the main cottage (11 total on property). We also have a large grass yard between the cottage and lake, plus a great fire pit at the waters edge. The fishing is most excellent right from our lawn.
