|Minimum Stay||4 - 7 nights|
This 2100 square foot house was built as a residence for the builder so the rooms are large and set up very nicely. (this isn't your typical beach rental with small bedrooms, mini fridges, cheap furniture, etc! Notice how many houses smaller than ours boast SIX bedrooms??) Upstairs there are four good sized bedrooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed, 1/2 bath, very large closets, TV and a ceiling fan. Bedrooms 2 and 3 have queen size beds, ceiling fans and large closets. Bedroom 4 has a double bed, a large closet and a ceiling fan. All bedrooms have bureaus, nightstands, mirrors and other assorted furniture. Also upstairs is a full size bath with tub and shower.
Downstairs features brand new kitchen cabinets, sink and countertops with refrigerator, new stove, new dishwasher, new microwave, toaster oven, dishes, silverware and glassware as well as pots, pans and kitchen gadgets. There is a large pantry in the kitchen to store dry goods and other assorted items during your stay.
The dining room has a table that seats 6 and brand new engineered hardwood floors. The living room has leather oversized chairs, a couch, coffee table, brand new carpeting and other furniture for a relaxing environment. The family room is carpeted with a leather couch, leather chairs, leather ottomans, coffee tables and a HD TV which has free cable. Also downstairs is a 1/2 bath with shower and a full size washer and dryer. Lastly, there is a large closet for storage downstairs.
The house comes with free weekly garbage pickup from inside the attached garage. Also for your enjoyment is a propane gas grill, an outside hot/cold shower to wash off when returning from the beach, a private backyard with a patio off the family room which has a table and chairs to enjoy your grilled dinner outside. The backyard is surrounded by trees along the back, a stockade fence on one side and a smaller fence and tall shrubs on the other. Of course we are surrounded by wonderful neighbors!
The house is short WALK to Scarborough State Beach, the nicest and largest state beach in Rhode Island. Scarborough State Beach has beautiful soft sand on the beach, hard sandy bottom in the ocean with great waves for adults and kids alike. The beach also features plenty of lifeguards, bathrooms, showers, food, and plenty of parking if you choose to drive to the beach rather than walk. The 'drive' will take less than one minute to the parking lot from our driveway! The house is also located a very short drive to several other beaches including Roger Wheeler State Beach (aka Sand Hill Cove)(5 minutes away), Salty Brine State Beach (5 minutes away, Narragansett Town Beach next to the world famous Towers of Narragansett (8 minutes away), and East Matunuck State Beach (12 minutes away). This house is all about the great location for summer fun!
You can also take a short 20 minute drive and be in Newport and it's mansions and wonderful shopping and site seeing. A 30 minute drive gets you to the 'Renaissance City', Providence. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION!

Sandy and I are active professionals that love traveling and enjoying our time away from home. I grew up in Rhode Island and knew exactly where to buy our second home as this is where I want to be in the summer, Scarborough Beach. Sandy and I met when I moved for work to Tennessee but after living there for four years, I realized I was too far away from the great shores of Rhode Island so I convinced Sandy to pack up and move north. We enjoy vacationing in beach locations and know that everyone will enjoy our beach home.
Bob Meyer purchased this house in 2007
Sandy and I purchased this home in 2007 as our daughter was attending the University of Rhode Island, five miles away. She moved in and lived there with 3 other girls for 2 years during the school year (September thru May) and then we've rented out the house from June thru Labor Day in September when we aren't using it. The location was determined by my knowledge of Rhode Island and where everyone wants to be in the summer, at Scarborough Beach.
We love our home because of the closeness to EVERYTHING in the summer. We walk to the beach, we walk around the neighborhood and we take short bike rides to markets, other beach spots, the fishing village of Galilee and the Block Island Ferry. The neighbors are always great and even if you're only there a week, you'll meet some friends that will last after your stay is over.
I had such and amazing week at the Melville rental home! My family and I really enjoyed the comfort and quietness of the home as well as the close proximity to the beach and all the town restaurants and hot spots. The yard was perfect for my kids to run around and play in while the adults got some fun in hanging out on the patio! We walked to the beach almost everyday and really enjoyed how easy it was to get there. The home was great. Nice and updated and very clean. Had everything we needed for the week! I definitely recommend the home if your looking for a nice clean rental with closeness to the beach.
We have a large family of our own (4 kids) ranging in age from 11 to 26. This house made our vacation so enjoyable. The house was amazingly clean and had all the amenities that we could ask for. A Large table for eating, two different living spaces for multiple people to hang out in, large bedrooms, brand new kitchen, marble counter-tops and plenty of storage and beautifully sized washer and dryer right on-site. It was lovely to sit out in the backyard in the morning with my coffee and listen to the birds and enjoy the beautiful views. We had other families stop by for a visits and they were just as impressed. There was enough room for people to spend a few nights with us as well. A GREAT time was had by everyone. The kids enjoyed the short stroll to the beach and the wonderful waves were perfectly sized for them. The neighborhood is a wonderful setting that makes your stay worry free. We enjoyed the fire-pit out back for fires and marshmallows (even the adults). Town fire works were awesome for the 4th of July. Bob (landlord) had lots of ideas for us for things to do. We will certainly be going back again and again. There is so much to see and do and fun was had by all who came.
Description of house and rental agreement signed by owner stated beds were 1 King; 2 Queens and 1 Double. This was inaccurate. Actual beds were: 1 K, 1Q, 1D and 1 Twin. There was a free standing soiled Queen mattress the owner said was used as a 'bed'. We agreed to try this, but it was unacceptable and one of us had to go to Immediate Medical for back issues. Upon return home, we contacted owner and asked for a $350 refund for the inconvenience. Owner offered $100 and said that if we had asked for a Queen bed, he would have supplied it. Unacceptable that we would have to ask for a bed he guaranteed in the property description and rental agreement. Also be aware that this home does show the wear and tear of academic year rental to college students. The online photos do not reveal the issues you will find once there, such as the bowed dining room table and the soiled furniture. Be sure to have the owner verify exactly what you can expect for your rental time. House is within walking distance to the beach.
This house was well located for a variety of activities - beaches, ferry to Block Island, good seafood and restaurants, Newport - and is in a safe quiet neighborhood. It worked out well for our families with young kids. It was clean, the rooms are well laid out, with several bedrooms and places downstairs and outside to hang out. The furnishings are a bit sparse; we would have liked more lamps so people could read in the evenings. There was no toaster - something we have had in all other houses we've rented. The house is rented out to college students during the school year; it would be nice to have it be a bit more more upscale during the summer. It looks like the owners are working on some maintenance issues, but need to fix the sashes on the windows so the windows can be opened safely. The owner was very responsive to our call to take care of a hornets' nest. Overall, we had a wonderful family vacation and love the area and we would rent this house again.
This house really made our vacation it was clean, tidy, and very spacious. The location is great as it is within walking distance to a lovely beach and is very close to many amazing restaurant's. We enjoyed the huge yard everyday which worked out perfect for our young kids to blow off some steam in the summer sunshine. The landlord provided us with many recommendations for things to entertain our family during the week one of which was visiting Block Island which was amazing, the ferry is only 5 minutes from the house. We will be staying here whenever we return to Rhode Island it was perfect!
My friends and I had a great time at this house last summer, and hope to stay again this summer. The house was big and comfortably fit 9 of us. It was also well taken care of and in a great location, the beach was only about a 10 minute walk and the grocery store was quick drive down the street. The house is in a safe and friendly neighborhood, and we really liked our neighbors. We enjoyed the privacy of the backyard and spent a lot of time of the patio. We look forward to renting again from Bob.
