About the property

Spacious, welcoming adobe home with secluded patio and wood burning stove. Open floor plan with windows on all sides to watch wildlife wandering by. The views around the home are spectacular and include Porcupine Rim and Castle Tower, a world class climbing destination. Great location for outdoor enthusiasts or if you are looking for a romantic get-away for two: Imagine having breakfast on the cozy patio; enjoying the sun set while soaking in the hot tub; having a drink by the wood burning stove; browning marshmallows over the coals on the outside fire pit; or watching the vibrant stars of the Milky Way while dozing off on the futon on the front porch. Available on a monthly basis only.

LOCATION: The Cozy Adobe is located on a 5 acre lot in scenic Castle Valley, a small residential area. The house is situated right along a dry arroyo, assuring privacy and a peaceful setting. Scenic route 128, which follow the river through a gorgeous, steep walled canyon, provides easy access to Moab (30 minutes) and the three National Parks in the area.

ACTIVITIES: The area around Castle Valley is an outdoor paradise with a variety of recreational opportunities. Nearby Porcupine Rim trail is famous among mountain bikers. Road bikers love the La Sal loop road, which winds its way through Castle Valley and up to the mountains. The La Sal mountains offer great hiking, snow shoeing and cross country skiing trails. Climbers like the challenging fins at nearby Fisher Towers, while hikers enjoy the wonderful hiking trails along the river road (route 128). The Colorado river, a five minute drive, offers multiple water sport activities like rafting, paddle boating, kayaking and swimming. Horseback riding, wine tasting and two excellent riverside restaurants are found nearby.

GREEN HOME: Decrease your impacts on the environment: The Cozy Adobe is equipped with water and energy efficient appliances. Outside solar hot water and solar PV panels (grid-tie) off-set 100% of energy needs. A recycling system is set up as well.

AMENITIES: Home amenities include a flat screen TV for watching movies, DVD/VCR, and a top notch stereo system with a plug-in for your Ipod. High speed internet and long distance phone (continental US) are included in the rent. The bathroom has a shower, full bath and a washing machine. The bedroom features a queen size bed with Serta mattress and hotel quality linens. Air beds provide room for up to two additional guests. The cozy patio on the side of the house provides seating for four, while the porch in front of the home has a futon to lounge on and an outdoor fire pit. The garage houses a portable gas grill and can be used to safely store bikes and other recreational toys. The attached carport protects your vehicle in the winter and keeps it cool during the summer months.

About Willy Stokman

My husband and I bought the Cozy Adobe from a friend in 2008. My husband is a biomedical engineer with his own consulting company, and I am a physical therapist. We have a daughter, who shares our love of Castle Valley with its beautiful red rock and gorgeous views. We hope to live in our home ourselves sometime in the future. In the meantime, we like to share it with those with a passion for the outdoors.

Why Willy Stokman chose Castle Valley

For years we visited Moab several times each year to camp, bike, boat, hike and visit our friend, who built the Cozy Adobe in 1993. Each time we saw her, we admired her home because of the views, the location and the way it blends in with the landscape. When we had the opportunity to buy it we could not pass it up.

What makes this house unique

The home is nestled next to a to a dry arroyo, which gives it privacy and a cozy feeling, while maintaining its fantastic view of Castle Tower. We added our own interior touches to make it feel warm, bright and welcoming. To minimize impact on the environment, we installed a solar hot water and solar PV system (grid tie). As a result, we are able to offset 100% of our energy needs, which makes it a great place to stay for those who are interested in living 'green'.
