I have fond memories growing up in Maine where we had a cottage on a lake. We had a lot of family holidays at that cottage. And then my family moved to Florida. My girlfriend's family had a cabin in Highlands, NC, so when my husband and I needed a vacation, that's where we rented, and after that we were both hooked on North Carolina. After going a few more times, we started looking for our own cabin. My husband was in the construction business and can fix just about anything. I went to Florida State University and majored in Housing & Interior Design, so we make a good team when it comes to providing a well-maintained and decorated cabin.
Debbie Perron purchased this cabin in 2004
We bought our second cabin that was originally called 'The Chalet' from an auction ad that my husband saw in our local newspaper. After purchasing it, we have vacationed there for over 18 years to get out of the Florida heat. We loved the beautiful weather and mountain views so much that when the Mountain Retreat became available we decided to purchase it for additional family gatherings. And then a few years later, the Ridge Haven became available. Everybody we knew or worked with wanted to rent the cabins, so that's how we got started. We love this County with it's country roads and laid back feeling. It is so peaceful and quiet here. Maybe an owl at night and sighting of hummingbirds during the day. It's a great place to live or visit.
Our private road and the hiking trail is a great place to walk our dogs, oh and the cats, too. The weather is just like being in air-conditioning in the summer and it's so brisk in the Spring and Fall. The foliage is beautiful any time of the year, even after the leaves have fallen. And the locals are so friendly, always waving as they pass by. There are so many nearby outdoor activities, weekly social benefits, arts and craft events, mountain music & heritage festivals and three pristine lakes (Fontana, Santeetlah & Cheoah) for all types of water adventures and fishing. The cabin is a great place to come back to after a fun day riding the roads or hiking the trails or just hang out here all day and do nothing.
It was a pleasure to finally meet you both. Glad Bob is feeling better so you could finally take your vacation. Thank you for the nice review and next years reservation.
Roy & Debbie
This really was a home away from home - Roy and Debbie are gracious hosts and have thought of everything!
Our family traveled from Missouri and Florida to come together for Thanksgiving week and the five of us were very comfortable here. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed to prepare both everyday meals and a full Thanksgiving spread.
It's very quiet and peaceful - there are other rentals on the property but they’re secluded it felt as if we had the place to ourselves. We enjoyed the hiking trail right on the property and the sound of the creek nearby in the mornings.
The beds were wonderful – I don’t remember the last time I slept so soundly. The layout with rooms on separate levels made it easy for some of us to stay up and talk while others retired early. It didn’t feel crowded even with all of us on the couch.
We noted the tasteful decorations and care that make this feels like home. Everything was clean and well maintained, we had plenty of towels and other linens, and made use of the washer and dryer. Roy was readily available to help us get a fire going (and for anything else we needed!). There were heaters throughout that made it very comfortable inside when it was cold outside.
We visited some fun places nearby that Roy recommended. There was even a book full of local activities to do and maps available. It’s clear that they are committed to providing a nice place to vacation.
Some things to note - the Tapoco Lodge had delicious pizza and beautiful scenery. We went into Robbinsville - the drive is gorgeous - and stopped in a few shops before enjoying mouthwatering burgers at The Hub. Everyone we talked to in town was warm and friendly. My sister and her friend went over to Gatlinburg for a day and had a blast while my mom and I hung back and just relaxed inside.
I want to thank both Roy and Debbie for their inviting accommodations. It felt like we were visiting old family friends and we had everything we could have asked for. We look forward to staying here again!
We have had a really nice long week end
Our host has welcome us when we arrived and he gave plenty of information to help us finding our way round
The area is peaceful and really nice if you like those smokies
We have really appreciated the comfort and cleanliness of the place with our 2 kids
Very nice accomodations. That hike to the top is no joke! Debbie helped us find some nice hikes and other activities in the area. No need to come with an itenerary:)
Just wonderful people to rent from. We stayed in the larger cabin of the two and although the second smaller one was insight we heard nothing and always private. Inside was open and had everything you would need for a long stay.Nice large deck with wooded view. The bedrooms were quite adequate with baths up and down.Debbie(owner) was friendly and very accommodating! It was a very nice stay and close to fishing, rafting, boating and hiking.I give it a 9!
We have stayed there before and have booked it again for next year! It is a great place for sightseeing as well, or if you just won't to get away for some peace and quiet!
We had a great time enjoyed visiting with Debbie we missed Roy he had some other commitments hope to see both of them next year!
