Comfortable but lacks attention to detail
We spent 10 nights in this apartment in December and celebrated Christmas here. This is a classic old brownstone apartment located close to Utica Subway station with direct access to Manhattan on the A and C lines.
The apartment was comfortable with a large dining table, living room and 3 bedrooms which accommodated our family of 5 adults. The 2 modern bathrooms were a plus too. The kitchen is functional but narrow so only one person can fit in there at a time. It also lacked some basic utensils with no chopping board, no baking trays and no dust pan. We had to buy these items ourselves and also some cleaning products.
The beds in the 3 bedrooms upstairs were OK but they are on rollers and move around. The floor is on a slight slant due the age of the building which adds character but does mean that the beds roll and the steep stairs need to be negotiated carefully!
The heating worked well but there were cold drafts through the windows which were only sealed with duct tape. I also had to tape down loose electric cords which posed a trip hazard in the dining room. The front door lock didn’t work but Kenneth did come and fix this on the second day. However, the most unsatisfactory issue was the wifi which dropped out twice during our stay and we had to wait for 3 days over Christmas for the router to be reset (it is located in a locked room downstairs so were unable to reset it ourselves).
There are some good cafes within easy walking distance (try Sumner Café and Peaches restaurant) but interesting shops and cafes in Williamsburg are an hours walk or 2 train changes to get there. The Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park are easy to access on the subway.
We enjoyed experiencing this part of Brooklyn and having a comfortable and warm apartment to come home to at the end of the day. The booking process with Kenneth was efficient though he is not always easy to contact (his message bank is often full). We received good instructions to get to the apartment and pick up the key. This place was nice but could be really good with more attention to detail.
Property is described accurately...clean and has everything you need.
Kenny is available and responsive to any concerns or questions! We enjoyed the apartment very much and our stay in New York!
Great Location for Exploring New Neighborhoods
We had an enjoyable 5 night stay in October - everything worked in the apartment and it was clean. The neighborhood was wonderful with numerous great restaurants - subway into the city was a few blocks away. Recommend L'Antagoniste, Peaches Hothouse, Therapy Wine Bar, Saraghina (amazing pizza) - all within walking distance. Be mindful of steep and narrow staircases. Also, arrange for extra towels if you have more than 4-5 people staying. We had just enough for 4 people. Kitchen is not equipped for feeding a large group but is adequate. Large grocery store on Fulton and numerous small shops throughout the neighborhood. Easy ride into Manhattan on the "A" Train. All in all, a delightful stay. Would stay there again.
The home was very nicely updated and comfortable, but it was a very old home ( which gave it a nice bit of charm) but it was on 2nd and 3rd floor with very narrow steps going up and they were not level, though they seemed very sturdy. It would not be a good place for someone who could not easily navigate the stairs or for small children. But for 4 adults it was a nice place to stay. The house had all that we needed for our stay. The neighborhood could do with a bit of attention and care, but we did feel safe and enjoyed our stay.
Wonderful Host, wonderful apt and wonderful stay!!
A must share. The photos are exactly as seen, super clean, spacious, warm and tastefully decorated. Kenneth, the owner was very responsive and it was lovely to come home to 55. Great for family. Walking to the train station is super close and fast (5 mins) with a hop onto the express A train or linger within Bed-Stuy for the ambiance of community warmth exploring local restaurants, visit Breadstuy if you can and convenience stores are all close by. We loved it.
Einfach unkompliziert und sauber.
Hat alles wie vereinbart funktioniert.
Super Anbindung an die Subway.
We do not provide tours of my rental apartments. This is, in part, because they are almost always occupied by other guests. Also, for the privacy and security of our guests, we do not disclose the physical address of the location until you have booked the apartment. Brooklyn is very large borough and it is the responsibility of the guest to ensure that this area is right for them and their needs before booking. If you are unfamiliar with the location, the nearest cross-streets are Bainbridge Street and Lewis Avenue. The apartment is 1 and 1/2 blocks away from the A express and C local subway lines at Utica Avenue, and 15 minutes from Manhattan.
