The Whidbey Wayfarer - Beach is a two-story, 1950's beach cottage in Clinton, with approx 1400sf (converted duplex) that sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful Puget Sound. The cottage is about a 1/2 block from private Columbia Beach (2 min walk), with views of the Cascade mountains, sound, and ferries crossing. The beach is excellent for beachcombing/walking and great for seeing many different types of wildlife including whales, seals and bald eagles.
The property is approx. 1 mile drive from the Clinton ferry dock, and is located in a very quiet and private neighborhood at the end of a dead-end drive. Located on Whidbey's south end, just 8 miles from the historic waterside town of Langley with it's quaint shops, art galleries, excellent eateries, jewelry, and antique stores.
While on Whidbey, a visitor can enjoy many outdoor activities, including, but definitely not limited to: hiking & biking (acres of parks and trails), kayaking (easy in/out from our beach), bird/wildlife watching, running (road or trail) and many off-leash dog areas, including our beach and the beautiful Double-Bluff beach area (skim boarding and tide-pool viewing). But, if weather keeps you indoors, there's shopping, dining, antiquing, live theater, a movie theater, coffee shops, and bars to keep you dry & happy!
My husband and I stayed here Thanksgiving weekend with our dogs and we couldn't have been happier with our holiday getaway!! Kelly was the perfect host and was in constant contact. The week or so before our stay, there was a terrible storm that affected most of the island. Despite the limited cell and internet service, Kelly was able to keep us apprised of the condition of the house, letting us know if we'd still be able to come based on when repairs were made. We were so excited when we got the go ahead. The house is mere steps to the beach and our dogs loved it! I loved the vintage decor while my husband loved how close we were to the ferry and town. We regularly spend weekends on Whidbey throughout the year, previously staying on Maxwelton Beach, but we have now found our new go-to spot. We'll be back again very soon!
We absolutely loved this house, location, beach, everything! Two huge comfortable beds, two living/sitting rooms, two nice and clean bathrooms. Owners great to work with.
My husband and I stayed at the Wayfarer for a long weekend. When I emailed Kelly about availability, she personally called me within 30 minutes to answer my questions. She was extremely helpful and informative as this was our very first visit to Whidby. She emailed me directions and links to various sites and a number of activities the same day I made our reservation. The cottage is roomy and very clean. It is an easy walk to the beach and very easy drive from the ferry. It has all the basic amenities you need, but don't forget to bring your own condiments. We visited Langley, Freeland, Greenbank Farm, Coupeville, S. Whidby State Park and Fort Casey State Park, and yes, had a great burger at Cozy's! Also, the 2nd Street Wine Shop in Langley is a great place to stop! We had a great weekend and great hosts! Thank you, Kelly & Rich!
My husband & I had the opportunity to stay at this charming beach cabin for 10 nights last fall. We found ourselves between houses with nowhere to go... This cabin was the perfect solution for us & our 2 dogs! The owners have done a great job of retaining the feel & decor of the era it was built in while providing everything you & your pets need. The upstairs bedrooms have comfortable beds & a lovely view. There is a propane stove downstairs which kept us warm & cozy. Our dogs quickly learned to use the doggy door for access to the fenced backyard. The location was perfect: convenient parking, friendly neighbors, minutes from the ferry, & great beach access. We all enjoyed long walks on the beach! Even though we live in the area, we don't always take the time to appreciate the spectacular views & beaches. This cabin provided us the opportunity to do that in comfort & style. It was a welcome respite in the middle of a hectic move. Thank you, Rich & Kelly!
My husband and I with our two dogs enjoyed one glorious month here. The house is spacious and well laid out. You have an over-the-rooftops-view of water and can see the ferries passing by, in addition to tugboats pulling barges. Besides boat traffic to entertain you, there are the big beautiful and amazingly silent planes taking off from and landing at the Boeing Field in Everett, such as the Dreamlifter. The neighborhood is clean and quiet, with very friendly residents. We loved the easy walk to the ferry where we would sail over to Mulkiteo and meet friends for happy hour. We moved the table and chairs from the backyard to the front porch and ate all our meals there while enjoying the view. Note of caution: while the views from the upstair bedrooms are great, the front windows do not open and each room only has two small windows that open. A fan has to run day and night to keep the air circulating. The place needs fresh paint, the curtains are frayed and stained, but don't let this stop you from staying there. The owner, Kelly, will go out of her way to accommodate your needs.
We just spent a really wonderful week at the beach house. It is really quaint and cozy!! The beds are very comfortable!! Kelly and Rich keep it well stocked with everything you might need. The only advice I would give is to be very careful about water usage! It is on a septic system and you really need to be careful or you might set off the alarm (which we did). It recovered just fine with Kelly's advice. We will definitely be coming back again next year!!
