Starlight by the Sea, the porch, the view, straight from your dreams

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

The beauty of the setting of this home is unmatchable. From the large open porch, view pristine white sandy beaches of Indian Pass with multiple species of sea birds, enjoy watching dolphins in the Gulf, and experience stars at night like you've never seen them. Even night owls will want to awaken for the spectacular sunrises peeking above the Western tip of beautiful St. Vincent's Island, a National Wildlife Refuge just a short kayak trip away. Once you've stayed at 'Starlight by the Sea' you'll never want to leave--it happens to everyone.

This home was designed by the owners for fun for the entire family, all ages and including the 4-legged members as well. Indian Pass is the dog friendliest beach you'll ever find. Like horses? We're horse friendly, too. Ride the 5000 acre Buffer Preserve or the 8000 acre Box R Ranch, or with permits and tail bags, ride the lovely beaches of Indian Pass and Cape San Blas. There's also great fishing, boating, and golfing. After all this activity, relax swinging in the hammock, sunning on the open deck, or reading a good book in the shade of the veranda. Then stroll the beach for a magnificent sunset. It truly is magical.

To gently awaken in bed with a view of a huge red sun peeking over the horizon and the sound of seagulls and waves lapping the shore

To sit on a breezy porch with a panoramic view of the Gulf of Mexico and watch dolphins frolicking in blue water and blue herons walking along a snow white beach

To eat sunset dinners al fresco while watching the Gulf of Mexico turn an iridescent blue against a pink sky

To lounge on comfortable chairs looking up at star-filled nights and moonlight shining on the sea

About Joy Stallings

I am an anthropologist and my husband is a commercial real estate attorney. We are both now retired with 3 horses and 4 dogs, living quite a different lifestyle on Indian Pass from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta city life. As pictured here with me, we often enjoy having our beautiful granddaughter with us at 'Starlight by the Sea', a place filled with years of wonderful times and family memories.

Joy Stallings purchased this house in 1992

Why Joy Stallings chose Florida Panhandle

When we saw our property on Indian Pass in 1992, it was the first time we had visited Indian Pass, even though we had vacationed on Cape San Blas several times with our young children. In fact, our son and daughter were only 6 and 4 years old in 1982 when we first vacationed in the area. As we hiked through the oak trees, palmettos, and palms, and climbed the sand dunes near the beach, we were in awe of the beauty we beheld. It was like finding a secret hideaway, with beautiful natural vegetation, gently curving white sandy beaches, and a view of an uninhabited barrier island displaying a show of seabirds hunting their supper in the blue gulf waters. And, amazingly, that is the way it's been ever since...

What makes this house unique

The uniqueness of 'Starlight by the Sea' and Indian Pass can be summed up in a couple of words--family fun! It's a place where everyone, furry ones included, can relax, play, feel at home, and enjoy the quiet, pristine, natural beauty of the coast. We built 'Starlight by the Sea' in 1996, and our focus was to experience as much of the natural beauty of Indian Pass from all areas of the house, to be comfortable for all ages, from parents and grandparents to young children, and to accommodate our 4 legged family members as well. It has certainly fulfilled all our dreams for our family, and we think it can for yours as well.

I have been to this area for a vacation for about 15 years now and we have finally found the perfect place. We stayed here in early November for a week. The experience started off well with timely communication by the owner. When we arrived the home was even better than expected! The pictures don't do it justice. The home was extremely clean, very well appointed, and felt much more like a home than a rental. The beds were comfortable and the linens so soft. The outside back deck was huge! I read an entire book in the hammock! The beach was quiet and clean. We saw dolphins, sting rays and many jelly fish. The nature preserve was very intriguing to look at . We hated to leave. Our damage deposit was returned within days. We will certainly be back to Indian Pass and we want to stay at Starlight by the Sea.

Welcoming comfortable home

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. As soon as you walk in you feel at home. Very clean. The cut out in the kitchen allows you to watch the ocean even when doing the dishes. The water filter system was so nice to have for drinking water! Personally felt the 2nd bedroom king bed mattress was better than the master. But just a personal option. There were lots of biting bugs and flys made sitting on the giant deck hard. But the deck is mostly shade all day so nice after a day at the beach. We found sand dollars. Tons and tons of beautiful shells. The sand is soft and powdery. the waves are very small making it nice to sit on the waters edge. I wish I had known that residents of the county are able to drive up and down the beach. we did see people with Indiana license plates driving around. I was being extra vigilant watching our 1 yr old and 2 year old while playing in the water and making sure a car wasn't coming. The outdoor shower was nice. Having the gas grill on the main deck was great. As a dog lover I was a little worried the home or couches would smell like wet dog. But NOT at all. It was super clean.

Owner's Response: Very happy you "loved" Starlight by the Sea, and found it "super clean". We have a wonderful caretaker couple who always does a fantastic job having the house ready for our next guests. I would like to address the beach driving that you mentioned, to make it clear that the number of vehicles driving on Indian Pass is very low and nothing like Daytona Beach and other locations that allow driving. Local Gulf County families have been able to obtain permits for many years, generations really, to enjoy the beach, primarily for fishing. It is a $500 fine to drive on the beach without a permit and to drive above the 15 mph speed limit or less in some designated areas. Beach driving is highly regulated and Gulf County sheriffs patrol the beaches looking for violations. If a guest does see violations, the sheriff's phone number is on our refrigerator along with other emergency numbers. Many guests have mentioned how they enjoy talking with the local families fishing on the beach to obtain information on what's biting and the best time and places to fish, as well as their favorite local restaurants. Sorry this was a concern for you, and happy you and your family had a great vacation.

Truly Amazing

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of five ranging in age from 21 to 87 years old. Everyone had a great time at the house. The views from the deck were amazing and relaxing. Most mornings I spent with a warm cup of coffee watching the sunrise and enjoying the sound of the ocean waves. The walkway to the beach was a definite plus especially for the older person in our group. We enjoyed walking on the beach looking for shells--which there were plenty, we flew out kites and a couple of nights we had a campfire on the beach as well. On the clear nights we sat out and just gazed at the stars. The amenities were nice--having a washer and dryer were a bonus. The kitchen was well furnished. We loved being able to put puzzles together on the big coffee table in the living room. We saw some dolphins swimming, saw a lot of pelicans and herons--especially the one heron who sat in the tree near us for hours one morning. What we all really enjoyed about the house was the location. We had traveled to Pensacola one day and driven through the "tourist" locations and for sure this is not that--it is quiet, peaceful and away from it all. We would definitely recommend this house to anybody traveling to the Florida panhandle area and if we are ever down in Florida again, we would want to stay at this house again. Thanks for sharing your house with our family.

Owner's Response: Thank you, Andy, for your very thoughtful review. We are very happy "Starlight by the Sea" worked well for all ages in your family, which was a goal of ours when we built the house in 1996. It has worked well for our family and glad it was enjoyed by all of yours. One of the things you mentioned is the peace and quiet of our location on Indian Pass. That is so true, and driving to nearby locations like Mexico Beach, Panama City, Destin, and Pensacola accentuates this difference. If you love to enjoy the beauty of nature in peace and quiet, "Starlight by the Sea" will be a good fit for you.

Bonfire under the full moon at Starlight by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I, accompanied by our poodles, had a fabulous vacation at Starlight By The Sea. The house is spacious and accommodating, with great views from most of the rooms. But it doesn't matter, because you will spend 90% of your time on the incredible deck, which features a 180 degree view of the water. We enjoyed swimming with our dogs, walking on the mostly deserted beach, and building a bonfire under the light of the full moon. It was all so relaxing that we plan on returning soon.

Owner's Response: Would have enjoyed seeing the poodles frolic on the beach and swimming in the Gulf. Glad all of you enjoyed your vacation at Starlight by the Sea, especially the beautiful views from the house and porch. You mention "the mostly deserted beach". It's true and pretty amazing what a low population beach Indian Pass is allowing lots of privacy and space to enjoy. We look forward to having you again soon.
