Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-7)

The beauty of the setting of this home is unmatchable. From the large open porch, view pristine white sandy beaches of Indian Pass with multiple species of sea birds, enjoy watching dolphins in the Gulf, and experience stars at night like you've never seen them. Even night owls will want to awaken for the spectacular sunrises peeking above the Western tip of beautiful St. Vincent's Island, a National Wildlife Refuge just a short kayak trip away. Once you've stayed at 'Starlight by the Sea' you'll never want to leave--it happens to everyone.

This home was designed by the owners for fun for the entire family, all ages and including the 4-legged members as well. Indian Pass is the dog friendliest beach you'll ever find. Like horses? We're horse friendly, too. Ride the 5000 acre Buffer Preserve or the 8000 acre Box R Ranch, or with permits and tail bags, ride the lovely beaches of Indian Pass and Cape San Blas. There's also great fishing, boating, and golfing. After all this activity, relax swinging in the hammock, sunning on the open deck, or reading a good book in the shade of the veranda. Then stroll the beach for a magnificent sunset. It truly is magical.

IF YOUR IDEA OF A GREAT VACATION IS...

To gently awaken in bed with a view of a huge red sun peeking over the horizon and the sound of seagulls and waves lapping the shore

To sit on a breezy porch with a panoramic view of the Gulf of Mexico and watch dolphins frolicking in blue water and blue herons walking along a snow white beach

To eat sunset dinners al fresco while watching the Gulf of Mexico turn an iridescent blue against a pink sky

To lounge on comfortable chairs looking up at star-filled nights and moonlight shining on the sea

About Joy Stallings

I am an anthropologist and my husband is a commercial real estate attorney. We are both now retired with 3 horses and 4 dogs, living quite a different lifestyle on Indian Pass from the hustle and bustle of Atlanta city life. As pictured here with me, we often enjoy having our beautiful granddaughter with us at 'Starlight by the Sea', a place filled with years of wonderful times and family memories.

Joy Stallings purchased this house in 1992

Why Joy Stallings chose Florida Panhandle

When we saw our property on Indian Pass in 1992, it was the first time we had visited Indian Pass, even though we had vacationed on Cape San Blas several times with our young children. In fact, our son and daughter were only 6 and 4 years old in 1982 when we first vacationed in the area. As we hiked through the oak trees, palmettos, and palms, and climbed the sand dunes near the beach, we were in awe of the beauty we beheld. It was like finding a secret hideaway, with beautiful natural vegetation, gently curving white sandy beaches, and a view of an uninhabited barrier island displaying a show of seabirds hunting their supper in the blue gulf waters. And, amazingly, that is the way it's been ever since...

What makes this house unique

The uniqueness of 'Starlight by the Sea' and Indian Pass can be summed up in a couple of words--family fun! It's a place where everyone, furry ones included, can relax, play, feel at home, and enjoy the quiet, pristine, natural beauty of the coast. We built 'Starlight by the Sea' in 1996, and our focus was to experience as much of the natural beauty of Indian Pass from all areas of the house, to be comfortable for all ages, from parents and grandparents to young children, and to accommodate our 4 legged family members as well. It has certainly fulfilled all our dreams for our family, and we think it can for yours as well.

A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!

  • 5 of 5

I have been to this area for a vacation for about 15 years now and we have finally found the perfect place. We stayed here in early November for a week. The experience started off well with timely communication by the owner. When we arrived the home was even better than expected! The pictures don't do it justice. The home was extremely clean, very well appointed, and felt much more like a home than a rental. The beds were comfortable and the linens so soft. The outside back deck was huge! I read an entire book in the hammock! The beach was quiet and clean. We saw dolphins, sting rays and many jelly fish. The nature preserve was very intriguing to look at . We hated to leave. Our damage deposit was returned within days. We will certainly be back to Indian Pass and we want to stay at Starlight by the Sea.

Best Ever!

  • 5 of 5

We all loved it ! Had a great time! The house was clean , well stocked, It wouldnt even matter after you see the view tho! There are houses on both sides , but they were vacant while we were there, the beach was nearlydeserted most of the time .You cannot know how bad we hate fighting the crowds! so this was perfect for us.We did buy some fresh shrimp, but cooked all our meals at the house,Visited the State Park several times where the water was crystal clear ,kayaked in the bay, lay on the deck chairs and saw falling stars, chartered a fishing boat for few hours, grandson fished for hours every day right in front of house ,six year old grandaughter caught like a 3ft. long shark right in front of house. She was beyond excited!!! Did I mention the View? the dolphins? Joy was very nice and helpful. Everyone loves our pictures. I kinda hate to tell them where its at for fear it will stay booked up with all those “tourist” !! The only thing ,I wished our trip could have been when the moon was full, I can only imagine how great that would be.Probably wont be able to come again, since I really couldn’t afford this trip, but I will always Praise the Lord for this time, and who knows what the future may hold! May not be right place for everybody ,but perfect for us !

Owner's Response: It's wonderful to have families like yours, Elsie, who enjoy the natural beauty that "Starlight by the Sea" offers, from little ones to grandparents. Yes, full moons are spectacular at "Starlight" with the glow of the moon shining a path across the water, yet still dark enough to see stars sparkling in the sky. I hope you will be able to come again and enjoy the glorious natural beauty a full moon bestows. We are happy everyone had a great vacation. Thank you for submitting your review and we hope to hear from you again. Best, Joy

Very peaceful and relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I and our two Chihuahua's had a wonderful week at the beach. The beaches were largely deserted other than a few locals who were very friendly. We enjoyed driving the golf cart we rented up and down the beach allowing the dogs to take in all of the ocean smells. The house was well equipped for our stay and we did not find anything we had to do without. We will certainly come back again and will likely bring additional family with us. Indian Pass is far more suited to our beach tastes than the more crowded beaches of Panama and Destin. It also is convenient to both Port St. Joe and Appalachicola. Had a great time and we will be back.

Relaxing

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. Comfortable 3 spacious bedrooms with c omfortable beds. Air conditioner works wonderful. Great porch with fans and lights and comfortable loungers. Absolutely gorgeous view! Unfortunately we were there when Hurricane Harvey was stirring up the gulf so currents were very strong Sunday through Wednesday. Thursday and Friday the water was calm. The only thing I did not like was the water was very muddy. The river flows into the bay and the bay flows past the house so the mud is from the river. I like the clear gulf water.

Owner's Response: Dear Jane, We are always happy when our guests love "Starlight by the Sea". Hurricane Harvey is such a huge hurricane, it is no wonder it totally changed the conditions of the Gulf of Mexico, even along the panhandle of Florida, as it moved closer and closer to Texas. You can see from our pictures how calm and beautiful the Gulf usually is in front of our home. We are very thankful our worst impact was less clear water than usual. Our hearts and prayers go out to all those affected by this terrible storm. Joy
