Healdsburg Hilltop Retreat :: Craftsman detail, modern comforts & stunning VIEWS

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Enjoy extraordinary views and re-connect with what matters in this secluded, completely remodeled cabin with custom craftsmanship and creatively repurposed materials in every room. The setting is private with nearly 200 acres of unspoiled woods out the back door - yet we're just seven minutes from Healdsburg square with great shopping, a wealth of tasting rooms and restaurants to please every palate. Wine tasting along Russian River's still-small and beautiful wine road is close and convenient.

Climb the steps to a tranquil getaway with exquisite views, and you'll not want to leave (many don't). Our most consistent feedback is that this 'tree house' feels like a world away from it all with its own little peaceful gravity well.

From April through August, we enjoy walkable Russian River access down the street for kayaking, tubing, or lounging on the beach. Year-round, there are hiking trails to choose from just outside the front or back door, as well as biking and paddle-boarding on the river. Within a short drive are some of the area's most beautiful trails and rides.

We have hand-crafted hardwood floors and (heated) tile throughout with well-placed windows for a very open feel, that never-the-less maintains total privacy. Enjoy the outdoor patio while taking in the views, napping, reading or sipping wine. Or venture out back to take in 180 degree views from above the trees, BBQ under the open sky, recount the days' events, or just play horseshoes.

For all the charm & craft, you'll find that the layout makes sense. In the master suite is a Cal king bed, 'en suite' full bath and private patio. Upstairs in the guest bedroom are two twins looking out into the forest, with a separate full bathroom on this main level. We also have two more twins available on the covered porch, as well as a convertible twin/full sofabed in the entry den. The kitchen opens onto the porch, looks out beyond the trees and is connected with the main living room.

We strive to keep the house tastefully appointed and amply stocked with all that you'll need for a comfortable & relaxing stay - from toiletries & hair dryers to a cook's kitchen, 'smart' TV & WiFi, and plenty of games for the playing.

About Heather

We are a couple from San Francisco who have long loved the Russian River valley and Healdsburg in particular. Sharing this place with others is a pleasure and a privilege for us.

Why Heather chose Sonoma County

It's a well-situated, peaceful getaway with stunning views & incredible craftsman detail. Healdsburg & the Russian River wineries are still intimate & small, yet sophisticated.

What makes this house unique

Best of both worlds :: At the end of the paved road & up in the trees, time slows down & life feels quieter here - but then Healdsburg food, shopping & wineries are 7 minutes away.

Porch Life!

  • 5 of 5

The Hilltop Retreat is a beautiful home tucked into the hillside of Healdsburg. While it's only minutes from Downtown Healdsburg and wine tasting in Dry creek you feel like you are in the mountains.

The home itself is nicely appointed, comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen. The porch is amazing. There are multiple living spaces in the home but the porch is hard to beat. We happened to be staying during a heatwave and the house stayed cool. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back!

Healdsburg slice of paradise

  • 5 of 5

Classy, clean, getaway with plenty of space for small groups or families. Owners very attentive to details and we did not have to ask any questions during our stay because everything was very clear and organized for us. Great views as well and very close to town. Need to be an adept parker and driver to fit car in tight spots on narrow road but all manageable with patience. We used bbq and it worked great. All told, highly recommend this place for a stay in Healdsburg, we really enjoyed ourselves.

Sonoma Delight!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful long weekend in Healdsburg, perfect home up on the hill! This home has it all....well equipped with an amazing deck! The home is perfect for two couples with separate bedroom floors and a well supplied kitchen. Please make sure you are able to do stairs, I believe we counted 53 steps up to the front door and another 10 or so to the main floor, so worth the trip if you are able!

This property is in a beautiful, peaceful setting It is nestled in the treetops which makes the soothing water sounds flowing from the river below even more calming. Yet with all this peace, we were just minutes away from a wide variety of interesting and fun restaurants and shops, lovely drives through the countryside, and of course numerous wineries. We visited many, and though we may have not LOVED every sip of wine, we thoroughly enjoyed each unique and interesting winery.

The property is equipped for any cooks needs -- you can go gourmet, grill, entertain or even decorate cakes. We slept very well each night, enjoying the new mattresses covered in nice linens. The internet worked fine. In the afternoon we got to choose where to enjoy our cocktails - on the open air porch or the outdoor "picnic" spot.

The gracious property owner really seemed to want us to enjoy and be comfortable at her home. She has stocked the place with games, movies, and cozy lap blankets. Prior to booking, she took the time to have a phone conversation with us. She was very helpful, answering all our questions about the area and making sure we understood what to expect at the house. This not only helped our planning, but assured we found no surprises or glitches when we arrived.

We loved our time here and are already discussing dates for a return in 2018.

Fabulous in every way

  • 5 of 5

This lovely home has everything- location, views, and every amenity. We loved the porch overlooking the fog-shrouded river valley in the mornings and the vine covered hills beyond, and we loved the upper patio in the afternoons for a relaxed glass of wine and even better view after a day of exploring so many wonderful wineries and the charming town of Healdsburg, all so conveniently nearby. The home is beautifully appointed, well equipped and oh so comfortable. The kitchen is especially well equipped and we made good use of the outside gas grill. This is our favorite place for a spring getaway with our favorite friends.

great; but

  • 3 of 5

Let me say that the accommodations are first rate - this is a beautiful house in which to vacation - and the porch is a wonderful spot to enjoy a glass of wine at night or coffee in the morning. Furniture, linens, decor, facilities- top notch. BUT.. the pictures above which show the stair case are misleading - that picture only shows the final section of stairs. If you have ANY mobility issues you will not be able to get to the property. And, note that the kitchen, sleeping porch, bedroom with twin beds, dining/family room are UPSTAIRS. And finally, there is nothing on the description that warns anyone of the treacherous road up the mountain to the home. Narrow road, twists turns, cliff edges on one side, deep ruts on the other and no lighting. The only way to park is to continue past the house until you get to a home with a paved driveway in which you can turn the car around. If you don't mind that sort of thing then go for it. But it was a scary drive. I feel as though I should have been told about this. If this was lower down the mountain - then it would be perfect.
