Our cozy family cottage has 100' of private waterfront on beautiful Torch Lake. The cottage has housed our family visits to Torch Lake for generations, and we'd like to share our little escape with others. Torch Lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and with one look into the crystal clear blue water you'll see why. We are fortunate to have a very gradual increase in depth for several hundred feet out into the water, creating a striking sight where the drop-offs signal the deeper blue depths of Torch. We have a dock that extends almost 90' out to the lake, with a 12'x12' platform at the end for enjoying some time in the sun. At the end of the dock it's not even 3' deep! Just down the road is the Torch River Bridge, near the famous Torch Lake Sandbar and Torch River. Just across the lake is the town of Alden.
We're making frequent updates to the cottage and the property. In 2009 we made significant renovations, completely modernizing the kitchen, bathroom, and living areas (but taking care to retain the old cottage look and feel). In 2014, a clothes dryer and mooring anchor were added. And in 2015, we rebuilt the stone wall on the lakeshore and added sand to our small beach area out front.
Golf Information: There are a number of top golf courses in the area, including designs by Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player. Some of the more popular locations include Shanty Creek Resorts with 'The Legend', designed by Arnold Palmer, as well as 3 other courses and Grand Traverse Resort & Spa with 'The Bear' by Jack Nicklaus and 'The Wolverine' by Gary Player.
Boating Information: Torch Lake is a great place to water-ski, go tubing, and do all sorts of other water sports. We have a 90'' long dock that can be used to access boats, although the water is still shallow at the end! Public accesses are close by. We have a mooring anchor that can be used, and local nearby marinas also offer overnight slip and trailered storage options that our guests have used.
Area Festivals: Harbor Days --- Interlochen Summer Arts Festival --- Petoskey Festival on the Bay --- Suttons Bay Art Festival --- Northport-Leelanau Peninsula Wine And Food Festival --- Suttons Bay Jazzfest --- Charlevoix Venetian Festival --- just to name a few!!

I've been going to the cottage since I was 6 months old, and spent entire summers there growing up. I am no longer able to spend such long periods of time at the lake, but the cottage and surrounding area have a very special place in my life, and hopefully will in my children's lives as well. The swimming, boating, campfires, exploring, wildlife, and nonstop summer activities all around the area can keep you busy all day every day!
Brett purchased this Cottage in 1936
Why Brett chose Rapid City
My great-great-aunt built the cottage in 1936 and our family has visited every year since. It's been our little slice of heaven! After completing some VERY significant remodeling work in 2009, including a completely new kitchen, new bathroom, refinished wood floors, new electrical work, and so much more, we decided to make the cottage available for rent, to share our escape with others.
What makes this Cottage unique
There are two amazing experiences every time we go to the cottage. First, driving over Torch River Bridge and seeing the lake for the first time that year. The sight of the seemingly infinite shades of blue sparkling water is breathtaking. Second, when arriving at the cottage, the scent of the pine trees that surround the property. My wife has said that the view from the kitchen window (of the lake immediately in front of the cottage) almost makes you WANT to do the dishes! There is so much to do in the area that it was my own personal summer camp growing up (fishing, swimming, boating, hiking...). The area towns are great places to visit, and there are many great restaurants as well. We now have a long drive each summer to make it to the cottage (about 15 hours) but wouldn't miss it for the world. Our kids love it and don't stop talking about it year-round!

Better than advertised
We were blown away with the views and the overall beauty this cottage had to offerand it was perfect for a cozy weekend for my girlfriend and I. It was conveniently located between Shorts and Traverse City so it gave us a great home base to rest up after a long day. I would definitely consider starting here again.
Cute and quiet!
This is a perfect weekend getaway! The views are unbelievable. The cottage was clean, fully stocked, and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again!
Perfect cozy cottage on Torch Lake
The cottage is better than described. For us, every detail exceeded our expectation. I enjoyed the fact that it faces the east so every morning you have the most spectacular sunrise, even if it looks like overcast, don't give up! The water was gorgeous with a sandy bottom that felt like carpet. Sure it was cool, but it was 80 degrees in northern MI when we were there, Torch Lake always stays cool. There is a small private beach area that you can look for pretty rocks. The fire pit area had plenty of chairs and well-stocked with firewood. The location is perfect for day excursions, however when we were out and about, I couldn't wait to get back to this gem of a place! I am so happy we found this darling place full of rich family history. The owners have had the home in their family for years and thankfully they are sharing it with others. We loved it here and have no reason to stay anywhere else when at Torch Lake.
This place is great! I brought my gal here to show her Torch Lake and wow, we were both blown away. The lake is even more beautiful than we imagined. The cabin was just as terrific. Brett, was very responsive and helpful, the caretakers were available professional. The cabin was clean and pristine, with everything you could possibly need. The owners obviously love this place and take a personal pride in making sure their guests have the best possible time.
My wife and I were looking for a relaxing getaway and this place was perfect. The lake was great and crystal clear. We rented 2 kayaks for the week and really enjoyed the morning outings. We highly recommend this cottage and Brett was great to work with. We can't wait to go back
The Most Beautiful View and Peaceful Too
We were fortunate enough to spend a week in the Torch Lake Cottage and absolutely loved the beautiful view from all the windows, and better yet, on the decks. Such a peaceful setting, among trees and on gorgeous Torch Lake. During our week long stay we enjoyed taking walks, eating several of our meals out on the deck, taking a boat ride on Torch Lake, the Torch River, and Elk Lake, driving around the scenic area, and eating out at great restaurants like Pearl's. The hosts do everything possible to make your stay memorable, enjoyable, and peaceful and provide a great list of area attractions and restaurants. We went to area orchards, several small art galleries, spent time browsing and shopping in Traverse City, Charlevoix, and Elk Rapids, went on the mushroom house tour in Charlevoix, and even went ziplining at Wild Wood Rush in Boyne City, as everything was just 15 to 60 minutes away. Super clean cottage is well maintained with spacious lake frontage that is more than ample to provide privacy, peace, and quiet while enjoying beautiful sunrises. Thanks for a great stay!
Our cottage has a wonderful combination of feeling very private, quaint, and secluded with large, old trees surrounding the property. But only 30' away is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. As part of the Chain O' Lakes, Torch Lake has waterway connections to Lake Bellaire, Clam Lake, Intermediate Lake, Lake Skegemog, Elk Lake, etc. Not to mention Lake Michigan right next door. Nearby towns include Alden, Elk Rapids, Bellaire, Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Charlevoix, and Traverse City. Nearby attractions include: Golf, Fishing, Mountain Biking, Hunting, Annual Cherry Festival, Elk Rapids Harbor Days, Orchards, Wineries, Grass River Natural Area, Interlochen Arts Festival, Chain O' Lakes Music Festival, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Manitou Islands, MACKINAC ISLAND, and many, many more.
