Staying at AC Inn, with it's hand-crafted details and amenities, was a highlight of our visit to Yellowstone. I feel like we had a taste of life in Montana, rather than just another hotel room.
A welcome respite from Yellowstone crowds, it has a huge living and kitchen area, and the gorgeous timber king bed upstairs is almost too comfy..!
Nothing was too much bother for the host, Mike. We decided to make use of the firepit and he kindly chopped a barrow full of wood for us, even though he was in his way out to an event.
We had a great time here. The home is well provisioned and had all we could ever need to relax after long days in Yellowstone. Mike lives just next door and was available for anything we needed without being intrusive. He is a very friendly guy. He and his dad built this home and it features numerous huge logs throughout it. Beautiful. That being said I must mention the stairs to the bedrooms. The loft room features an amazing staircase but it is very steep and very slick. After the first night I decided to sleep in the living room because my feet literally slipped out from under me on the way down. We mentioned the slickness to Mike and suggested some kind of tread. The stairway down to the basement is a spiral and it also hard to get down. If you have older folks, like we are, small children or an older dog (as we do) it is very hard to get up and down the stairs and could impact your stay. Mike is still working on the home so I am sure he will address these problems.
We enjoyed our stay overall. The house was clean and well-maintained. The loft was a comfortable bedroom, although the bathroom was down one level. The other 2 bedrooms were in the basement and they were okay but a bit dark and musty.
The kitchen was very nice and well-stocked except there were only 4 dinner knives we used between 6 people. The washer and dryer were nice and easy to use, and the family room was very comfortable.
Mel and Mike have a beautiful home they are willing to share with other families visiting Yellowstone. Next to rodeo and 7 miles from W. Yellowstone. Comfortable and roomy! I would say much more but don't want anyone to take my week next year!
My family and I stayed here for 3 nights during our recent Yellowstone vacation. We loved the house, and the boys (ages 9 & 15) loved sleeping in the loft area. Awesome views from the floor to ceiling windows in the great room. Note that the bedrooms are in the basement with the exception of the loft. I ended up sleeping in the loft with my boys because they didn't want to be that far away from me in an unfamiliar place. It wasn't a huge issue since there were only 4 people in our group. The owner was doing some work on the house while we were there and was very friendly. The house location was great...convenient to West Yellowstone without having to deal with the crowds. It was so nice to come back to an actual house after a long day in the park instead of a cramped hotel room. I would definitely stay here again if we come back to the area!
Great location close to the town of West Yellowstone without all the busyness of the little town. The cabin was very clean and well stocked. Cozy beds, linens, and towels. Spent most of our time in the park and surrounding areas so didn't really take advantage of the big TV, patio, and stocked kitchen. Mike made sure we had all that we needed and told us to call if we had any issues, which we didn't. I think it's important to note for families with young kids that 2 of the bedrooms are in the basement with a bathroom and the cool wooden spiral staircase was just fine for our 9 and 11 year old but it would be difficult for a little tyke. The staircase does have the option to close it off. Plus, the main bedroom with the King bed and additional Queen bed is in a loft which is open to the living room below. Again, no issues for us but this would never have worked for us if our kids were little still. Kids loved the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. Safe way to see many bears and wolves up close and learn about them.
