Great stay!

  • 5 of 5

We loved the villa and had a fantastic stay this Christmas 2016. Philip and Marjie are such hospitable people! They make you feel welcome and their attention to guests and details is rare to find and we appreciate it highly! Their house is up on a hill with beautiful views. The villa is best for two adults but we had a teenager in tow and it was convenient that they had an extra bed on the enclosed porch. The house is well appointed like a posh resort. It is also well stocked with many little conveniences that you may need if you decide to cook an occasional meal (spices, oil, condiments etc etc). Even various rums left by previous guests are on the fridge, so help yourself :-) In keeping with this tradition, we felt compelled to restock one of the bottles we finished, so the large dark one is our compliments to the next guests. Should you run out of your own stuff, you will also find various sunscreens, bug repellents and shampoos/conditioners in the bathroom. You do need a jeep to get there and about. The road to carport at the hilltop may be a challenge at first, but you get used to it quickly. The location is very convenient to the most secluded and the least crowded beaches on St John which were our favorites: Salt Pond, Lameshur on the south and Francis bay on the north side. Definitely go for a sunset dinner at the nearby cafe Concordia. Their chef is pretty good and the view is unbeatable. Overall highly recommended!

An amazing holiday stay in the perfect corner of Saint John

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I rented Iola for the week of November 12-18th, 2016, having never been to the Islands before. It looked perfect on line, and every anticipation was fulfilled by the tremendous hospitality of Jones and Margie. The home is beautiful, well appointed and modern in every way. We rented primarily because my girlfriend has celiac disease AND is mostly vegan so our opportunity to dine out every night of our stay was nil. I looked for a house with a good kitchen, and Iola has the best kitchen I saw. The house is an open plan, with plenty of natural light and cross ventilation. At night, you have the option of the air-conditioned bedroom, or opening the windows to the north facing evening and soaking in a tremendous ocean breeze! They have satellite TV in several rooms, but hey! You're in the islands, get out and go. Jones' recommendations for restaurants and secluded nearby beaches were spot on - we truly enjoyed the evening walk out to Salt Pond Bay, Blue Stone beach and Rams Head Point to watch the sunset.

It was a great time getting to know Jones and Margie, learning their corner of the island and having the best vacation we could have asked for... Swimming with sharks and turtles (that was our hope) in Maho Bay; parasailing; hiking past 300 year old sugar plantation ruins on the Reef Bay Trail; taking a day trip to The Baths on Virgin Gorda; taking the very easy to use Ferry from Cruz Bay to Redhook and Saint Thomas. sigh... it's still lingering as I write this 45-days later. It's a matter of when, for Robin and I, to make our return trip to Saint John - and we most definitely will be calling on Iola once again. Enjoy your trip!

Great house and location for a St. John Get-Away

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I just returned from a week at Iola - it is a beautiful house. The owners were very attentive and helpful. We can't say enough about how well we were treated. The views were great and the location was perfect for us. Near-by Salt Pond Bay was close and easy to access. Remote beaches were just a short distance. Great getaway!!

Beautiful people, beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Villa Iola was an experience my husband and I will never forget, for many reasons. 1- because it was our honeymoon, 2- because the Villa was just breathtaking and every inch of it was built by The Jones hands and hard work and 3- Marjorie and Jones were amazing people! Our arrival day on St.John was nightmarishly awful lol... Heavy pouring rain, forgot directions at home so we were lost a great deal of time, fear of heights and dealing with all the twisty curvy roads!!! My husband and I were ready to sleep and get up and leave the next day but, the beauty of the Villa and the kindness of our hosts got us through and we were able to enjoy our honeymoon from that point on! Jones gave us a guided tour of the island and helped us feel more at ease and from there we were good to go! As I said before, beautiful Villa and beautiful people. We absolutely recommend this home!!!!

Tranquility at its best

  • 5 of 5

I woke up this morning missing the warm breezes, the distant rhythm of the waves, the spectacular views and the peaceful tranquility that is Villa Iola. If you are looking for a place that is off the beaten path, but offers true luxury and the comforts of home, this is the place.

The villa is perched high up with expansive views of the British Virgin Islands and stunning bays below. Being on the quieter end of the island has great advantages, not only because of the privacy it affords, but you are so close to some of the best snorkeling and beaches on the island. If you snorkel to the center of Salt Pond Bay, you will discover caverns under the sea with a plethora of fish and sea creatures. Take a hike along Ram Head and see spectacular cliffs where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Your hosts Jones and Margie remember every detail to make your experience special. They go above and beyond to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. From supplying beach towels to a kitchen well-stocked with extras to help you cook, it made our stay easy and carefree; plus, the entire house is elegant and very clean.

If you don'the want to cook, or you just want to eat out, make sure you spend time in town at Indigo restaurant and at Lucy's (on the way to Iola). For an adventure, take a sailboat ride with Captain Jimmy on the Koite.

My husband and our teenage son and I want to come back as soon as we can. We highly recommend visiting Iola and would recommend it to any of our friends and family. St. John and Villa Iola are a wonderful way to spend your vacation!

Notes:
Strongly suggest renting a 4 wheel vehicle for sightseeing from the many car rentals near the St John ferry dock or from St Thomas airport. There are steep, windy paved roads all the way from the dock to the lower level of villa 'Iola' and the drive past the lower driveway to the upper level car port parking is a typical, unpaved, bumpy, steep, island road. You can also take the bus from the nearby 'Tourist Trap', an outdoor restaurant to go across island from Salt Pond to Cruz Bay (town) for only $1. It runs from 6:00AM to 7:00PM every hour on the hour. There are hiking trials all over the island and many beaches to choose from. Over one half of the island is part of the National Park with old slave plantation ruins and great adventure. Our beaches are renown for great snorkeling. We are off the beaten path!!!
