Overview

Washington DC Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this unit features two bedrooms and one bathroom as well as powder room and can comfortably accommodate a family of six. Once you enter the building there are flight of stairs to get to the living and dining room and than another flight of stairs to get to the bedrooms and bathroom.

The property—situated within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—is near the center of the Federal City and offers amenities for a comfortable and memorable stay in one of Washington's oldest and most sought-after neighborhoods.

After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, rowhouses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.

In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible on the Orange/Blue line on the southwest side of the Hill and on the Red line through Union Station. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.

To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.

During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.

The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.

These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

About Property Owner

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

Wonderful location in a quiet neighborhood in Washington, D.C. if you like to walk to the Mall area.

  • 4 of 5

Two bedrooms are hard to find, and this fit our needs very well. The Capitol Hill area is pleasant, and we enjoyed the 20 minute walk to the Mall everyday (though we did cheat and take a $6 taxi ride one morning when it was pouring rain). There are two flights of stairs to access the two levels, one very narrow. Once the luggage was in place this was no problem at all. The furniture was comfortable, and we cooked all of our meals in the kitchen rather than eating out. The wi-fi worked well. We used the parking space in the back, which is basically a security garage door leading from the back alley into the back yard, without a roof or walls around your car. Our only minor issue was discovering that our thermostat also regulated a different apartment below us, so when we were too hot and turned it down, the owner had to send someone over to request we turn it back up because the other tenants were cold. Oops! The owner was very responsive at all times.

This property is really lovely. It is completely updated yet maintains the charm of an older home.

Great Central Location for a Family Visit to DC

  • 5 of 5

House was in great shape, even had a bottle of wine to greet us. We took the subway to see the DC sights and the walk was very doable. If you rent the parking space, be sure to note the directions they send as to where the remote control is. You'll need to go in the front door first to be able to access the parking at the rear of the house.

Great place for a Family Trip to DC

  • 5 of 5

A family of five found this just right with one person staying on the sleeper sofa (IKEA) in living room. Well decorated. I read some other reviews and yes, almost all the homes in this area are rehabs with narrow, squeaky wooden stairs. It's just part of the homes in this area.

NOTE: If you rent the parking space - be sure to call early to ask how to open the door. You have to enter the home first and then find the remote to do so.

The 10-15 minute walk to the subway wasn't a burden, and there was also a bike rental spot right at the subway as well which we used.
