Overview

Hill East Condo Rental Photos and Description

Condo, 2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 4-6)

Located in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood, this unit features two bedrooms and one bathroom as well as powder room and can comfortably accommodate a family of six. Once you enter the building there are flight of stairs to get to the living and dining room and than another flight of stairs to get to the bedrooms and bathroom.

The property—situated within walking distance of the U.S. Capitol and the National Mall—is near the center of the Federal City and offers amenities for a comfortable and memorable stay in one of Washington's oldest and most sought-after neighborhoods.

After Georgetown to the west, Capitol Hill is Washington's oldest neighborhood. In its earliest days, most of the residents were members of Congress who lived in boarding houses and dormitories surrounding the Capitol. As the neighborhood evolved, rowhouses replaced boarding houses and the Hill began to grow as a neighborhood filled with families, as well as Washington's who's who. As you walk around this stately neighborhood, don't be surprised if you see faces you've seen in the news. A number of senators and representatives make their home on the Hill.

In addition to the U.S. Capitol, the Hill includes other significant American landmarks such as the U.S. Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Folger Shakespeare Library, Union Station, the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks, the Washington Naval Yard, Congressional Cemetery, Lincoln Park, and the Eastern Market. All of these sights are within easy walking distance and most are Metro-accessible on the Orange/Blue line on the southwest side of the Hill and on the Red line through Union Station. Just down the hill from the Capitol is the National Mall with all of the monuments and memorials iconic to Washington, as well as more than 10 museums and galleries of art and artifacts.

To the east of the Capitol is the Eastern Market—one of the only remaining merchant markets left in Washington. While the market bustles during the week, it is on the weekends that it acquires its character and charm as residents from all over the city and visitors from all over the world come to the market to enjoy breakfast; purchase fresh meats, produce, and breads; stroll through the adjacent flea market; and browse the latest art and jewelry crafted by local artists and artisans.

During the spring and summer months, a visit to the U.S. Marine Corps Barracks at 8th and I Streets SE will allow you to see the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team in action. This 24-man rifle platoon performs precision maneuvers with their 10.5 lb M-1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

Over at the U.S. Capitol, the newly opened visitor's center allows visitors to experience the Capitol from the ground up. The center features several state statues in Emancipation Hall and a museum that chronicles the history of the U.S. Capitol from its cornerstone laying in 1789 by George Washington to the present day. Tickets for the Senate and House galleries are available here.

The Library of Congress' Jefferson Building, just across the street from the Capitol, is the world's largest repository of books and media in the world. The building is open to the public and the Renaissance and classical art are breathtaking.

These and other sites make staying on Capitol Hill a must if you're visiting Washington on business or for pleasure.

About Jarek Mika

We are family owned and operated. From the left meet Kate, Jarek (sister and brother) and our mom Dana.

We have lived in Washington for over ten years and love this cosmopolitan city where people get up every morning and get to work on changing the world. The most powerful people in DC can alter the course of history and try to make the world a better place. It's a city where philosophical debate and advocacy of issues beyond one's own family or pocketbook rule the day; a city where what's going on in one's head is far more important than what one is wearing; a city where people come from all over the world to experience democracy and learn the principles of our free society.

We get visitors from all over the country and the world. Some come for one time visit with their family, others keep coming back number of times a year as we host many repeat guests related to the federal government, foreign embassies and the US State Department. We take great pride in having our unit very clean (our mom cleans it, so you know it’s spotless), conveniently located within walking distance to all shopping, restaurants and Metro.

We want you to enjoy your visit whether it is once in a lifetime trip with your family or monthly visit for work. We are looking forward to hosting you in DC and if there is something we can help with, let us know.

Comfortable house in a great neighborhood

  • 4 of 5

We were very comfortable in the apartment/house which is nicely furnished with good beds, including the sofa bed. Washington was very hot, so we were happy that the air conditioning worked well. We also appreciated the beverages left on the dining room table for our arrival. If you are using the parking spot, and have a choice to drive a small-sized car, do so! I had a minivan and it was extremely difficult to navigate into and out of the parking slip because of the narrow alleyway. You enter the alley just a couple doors down, and it winds to the back of the property. We found the neighborhood quiet and safe. We walked to the restaurants on 8th street along "Barrack's Row" and had a fantastic meal at a Balkan restaurant there.

Perfect for us!

  • 5 of 5

Great neighborhood. House was clean and welcoming. We felt right out home. Plenty of space for our family of 6. Kitchen was well stocked. We walked to the capital from our front door. The only issue we had was parking. Our van was too tall to fit in the garage. Paid parking wasn't too far away, but very expensive. Other than that, we highly recommend it. When we make it back to DC we will stay here again.

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

There were five of us who stayed here on the 24th-29th of June. The place was beautiful, even more so than the pictures. It was very close to the metro and restaurants. The neighborhood is great and very comfortable for walking around. The parking space was tight but it worked well. We saw most of the monuments at night to avoid crowds and it was great to have the car for the evenings. We would definitely stay here again

Wonderful place to stay.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week at this property with our 12-year-old granddaughter. Everything was just as promised, and more. The location in a quiet neighborhood was perfect for our stay. We were able to walk to Eastern Market, the Capitol, and Union Station, where we were able to access public transportation. The home itself is nicely furnished, tidy, and comfortable. The kitchen had more amenities than we expected, and the skylights provided both pleasant daytime sun and lovely sounds of rain. Thanks to the owners for their attention to detail.

Wonderful place to stay while visiting DC

  • 5 of 5

My four grandsons and I stayed at this property while visiting DC. It was perfect for us. It was a short walk to Union Station (less than a mile) where we caught the metro to all of the DC sites and the National Zoo. It was also where we picked up the HOP-A-BUS for our one day tour of the entire city and all of the monuments. Union Station was the perfect place to end the day where we ate dinner with lots of inexpensive options for dinner and a large Walgreens where we picked up cereal, milk, bread, butter and other items for use in the apartment. It was so nice to have a complete kitchen with everything we needed for breakfast and packing lunches for the day. The living area was perfect for our SGFY slumber parties in the evening. The bedrooms upstairs were perfect for the boys and it was nice they had their own bathroom. The sofa bed had a great mattress so I slept very well there. We were able to pack light backpacks for the trip because I was able to do laundry each night in the laundry room. The appliances were in excellent condition. I loved the quiet shaded patio in the back. The neighborhood was very quiet and safe. We felt very comfortable walking home from metro each night. The internet and cable TV were excellent. I will definitely use this apartment again when I go to DC. I hesitate to give such a great review for fear that the next time I want to use it it will be booked. The apartment does have some steep stairs to get into it and steep stairs to get to the upstairs bedrooms but it didn't bother this grandma but if you need handicap accessible this won't work for you. Thanks for letting us use your property-if you are ever in Utah we have three condos next to Zions National Park.
