About the property

7 bedrooms, 5 1/2 bathrooms, sleeps 16.

Point Comfort Lodge was built by a railroad and lumber tycoon from the mid west in 1912. At the turn of the century it was fashionable for wealthy families on the east coast to build large summer homes in the Adirondacks. Most of these vacation homes were log cabin or mission style architecture. When the Klamath Development Company was developing the lumber harvesting business in Klamath Falls they built Point Comfort to be their vacation home at the foot of the Cascade Mountains on the shore of upper Klamath Lake. Originally, four great lodges were built on Klamath Lake; they were Eagle Ridge, Odessa, Harriman Springs (built by E.H. Harriman) and Point Comfort. Point Comfort is the only one remaining today, making her the Grand Dame of the Lake.

Point Comfort was designed by a renowned craftsman style architect from Berkley California. The restoration of the Lodge took 7 years to complete from the hardwood floors, wood paneled walls to the windows and doors.

7 years to complete from the hardwood floors, wood paneled walls to the windows and doors containing 805 panes of glass. Her restoration adhering to historical guidelines has earned her a place on the National Registry of Historical Places.

Lodge Style:

The Lodge is furnished with a blend of contemporary furniture and valuable antiques from the Craftsman period. For your enjoyment we have added two vintage pinball machines, no charge to play. The Lodge’s commercial kitchen is equipped to feed many, with its Wolf range, separate icemaker, dishwasher, two refrigerators, 8 foot stainless steel sink unit and prep island with sink. There are enough dishes for 30 people.

Patios, Decks, and Docks:

The front entrance has a lovely covered porch that is a restful place to sit. On the lakeside of the Lodge is a deck, which overlooks the lake. Below this deck is a large cement patio, perfect for outdoor entertaining.

The dock will accommodate up to eight average sized boats and comes with a ladder if you happen to jump in. The three acres of land surrounding the Lodge are planted in rolling lawns, and natural plant species of the surrounding area. The gardens are beautiful in the spring when the lilac bushes and the flowering trees are in bloom. There are several large rock outcroppings to set off the gentle slope to the lake.

The Lake

Klamath Lake is home to 452 bird species and Eagles are often seen in the trees on the property. In the summer the trout come from all over the 94,000 acre lake into the bay in front of the lodge. These wild trout are a strain of steelhead landlocked in the lake 80 years ago. They average 2-3 pounds and fish over 8 pounds are not uncommon. This is a favorite spot for fly fishermen. There are miles of canoe and kayaking trails throughout the marsh.

Enjoy a morning cup of coffee and watch the fish jumping in the lake! This facility is perfect for family reunions and gatherings of 8 or more.

Rocky Point Resort is ½ mile down the road, accessible by car, a short walk, or a boat ride from our dock to theirs. They have a small store, restaurant with full bar, and boat rentals. Lake of the Woods Resort is 8 miles north on Hwy 140, a short 10 minute drive. Lake of the Woods features a restaurant, boat rental, store and excellent swimming beaches. The Running Y Resort is 15 minutes south on Hwy 140 which features bar and restaurant, convenience store, and a wonderful 18 hole Golf course designed by Arnold Palmer, rated as one of the top 100 in the U.S. Crater Lake is a beautiful drive, just 45 minutes north. Lava Beds National Monument a hour to the south. These are just a few of the many things to do in the Klamath Falls area.

Beautiful spot for a group

  • 5 of 5

We have enjoyed this place for three years - an extended family of 11, each having our own private space, and the ability to all come together in the common rooms. Sitting on the shore of Klamath Lake, it offers delightful water activities - most especially kayaking around beautiful Pelican Bay. Restoration of this historic landmark has been done with a remarkable sensibility to both history and comfort. Highly recommended....

MINDBLOWING - So oregon's best kept secret for reunions

  • 5 of 5

I am selfishly not wanting to write this glowing review as I want to keep it for our family's secret special place for years to come. Alas, for you, the possible renter I will write it!

I was tasked to find a location suitable for our winter sport themed family reunion (including 7 grown adults, a family of cooks, and one that loves to play games and laugh....) and boy did I nail it!

This is a glorious East Coast style classic property that has been immaculately maintained on the the most gorgeous piece of properly with views galore overlooking the often overlooked Klamath Lake and surrounding mountain basin.

The Lodge allowed everyone to have their own personal spaces and space when when we were together in the kitchen and living room and dining room.

John & I live in So Oregon and have never really known anything about the community of Rocky Point ( there is a fab restaurant + bar a 1 min drive from the lodge in case you want to take a night off !) and the rest of the gang came in from out of state. Its only an hour away from the the Medford airport and 45 mins from crater lake, 15 mins from lake of the Woods.

The owner, Bill , and Dave, the local caretaker (and the one who refurbished the home a few years back) are a great duo taking care of the rezzie and preparing the home for our arrival. Everything was so smooth.

We will absolutely return for a family reunion again, when we hit another special milestone.

Beautiful place!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this charming lodge full of comfy, authentically historic rooms in a gorgeous, quiet location. We rented canoes nearby and spent a magical afternoon on the water. Another day we went up to Crater Lake and hiked the rim trail in the snow - beautiful. We had a large birthday gathering and the place was perfect - good beds, plenty of bathrooms, well equipped kitchen. When there was an issue with something in the house, the owner worked with us by email to resolve it. Highly recommended - I would definitely rent again!

Family Get Together

  • 5 of 5

The lodge was very comfortable and the view was highly relaxing. Within 5 minutes of arriving we felt like we had lived there for ages. Everything we needed was there and in an obvious place. We were, at our most numerous, 11 adults so we fit comfortably in the lodge and every couple had a private bathroom.

The smoke from the fires along the coast would come and go, depending on the morning and evening winds. At times, we could not see the hills on the east side of the lake, at other times they were clear as a bell. But it was never thick enough to notice more then the faint smell. Otherwise, the weather was perfect - not too hot, not too cold and the mosquitoes few.

We did have a few uninvited people walk in. The lodge, despite a sign posted on the front steps, seems to appear to have an attended office inside, like a hotel. And there seems to have been an impression that the lodge common areas (such as the piano) were also common for the cottages. None of these unexpected folks were unpleasant and no confrontations occurred. Still, we decided to keep the front door closed and locked, even when we were in.

Dealing with the 2 different rental agents (one local, one remote) was pleasant and efficient. The billing was exactly as agreed.

In the end, we all agreed that the experience was exactly what we had intended.

Kayaker's Retreat

  • 5 of 5

I had seen Point Comfort from the outside while paddling past for many years. When I wanted to bring a group down to Upper Klamath Lake to kayak, i immediately thought of the lodge. It was beyond our expectations - a wonderful kitchen for large groups, its many bedrooms and baths, and clean and tastefully decorated throughout. Everyone who came on the trip loved the lodge and the surroundings. One person has decided to lead this own trip here for a group of bikers in the future.

Comfortable and Spacious

  • 5 of 5

Love the light and airy bedrooms and the spaciousness! Our family - 3 generations from Oregon and Washington - will stay at Point Comfort Lodge again this summer, for the third year in a row. The Lodge and adjacent cabins fit us well. The Lodge is elegant - its history fascinating - and the surroundings quiet and beautiful. We all enjoyed sitting on the deck and taking in the lovely scene of the lake. The place is old (part of its charm!) as is some of the equipment, but we managed! We took turns cooking meals. We did not eat out. There are a couple of accommodating but very small and limited grocery stores within a few miles, but the nearest full grocery is a long distance away, so our experience is that it's important to bring your own food, from your home or purchased in Medford or Klamath Falls. The architecture of this old Lodge is pleasing, including the elegant old woodwork which extends into the ceilings. The athletic members of our family found plenty to do - hiking and biking in surrounding areas, boating, etc. Our time there was very pleasant.
