The fireplace was built with stones found by the Cranmer family from the lake, the woods and area farm fields over 60 years ago. It’s why we call our lake house the “Cranmer Hearth”.
It’s almost 3 acres with 200 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan in Cross Village at the northern beginning of the nationally historic highway called the ‘Tunnel of Trees”; a stunning example of the best of ‘Northern Michigan’.
We’ve renovated and with professional assistance from Interior Design Options of Gaylord have redecorated this beautiful beachside home. Four bedrooms, two are master suites, one with a king bed and one with a queen bed. The two smaller bedrooms are one with a double bed and one with two twins plus a den with a futon. So it sleeps 8 comfortably, 10 with the futon with 4.5 bathrooms. MyPillows and Boll & Branch bedding new for the 2017 season! Stunning sunsets and fresh water breezes with a small, always babbling spring just feet from the deck - it's a great spot to unwind and just hang out for a week or two.
Many amenities including granite counters in the kitchen, espresso maker and flat screen televisions with Satellite TV and just minutes from Cross Village – a pleasant, peaceful village – the opposite of the hectic lives most of us live. Yet within 20 to 30 minutes from Harbor Springs, Mackinaw Island and Pelston Airport (PLN) - daily non-stops from Detroit.
Welcome - we'd love to have you as our guests!

Greetings from Cross Village! We purchased and renovated this wonderful lakehouse in Spring 2009 and were overwhelmed by both the interest in it and how nice the folks were who became our guests. Thank you, Joe and Joletta Richert
The Owner purchased this house in 2009
It's an unbelievable part of the world - standing on 200 feet of sand and dunes makes us (at least) realize what a great state Michigan is. Located at the beginning of one of our country's top 10 scenic highways, the 'Tunnel of Trees', when you get here, you're there.
There is a small year 'round spring that trickles through the rocks just a few feet south of the deck and patio. Cross Village is a quiet place, yet it is only 20 to 30 minutes from Harbor Springs, Mackinaw Island, and Pelston Airport (PLN) with daily flights to Detroit. Some of Michigan's best golf is within minutes, too.
We have vacationed on Lake Michigan for the last 20 years, and have stayed in many lovely homes on the water.
This property however offers all you could ever want, 200 feet of beach, 3 acres, you are surrounded by trees and no one else. The house is amazing inside, with plenty of room the relax and enjoy.
The beach is great and nice to be a short walk from the house, much more private than most we have rented. Really enjoyed the Master Bedroom shower, the view is spectacular and a first for us having a view from the shower.
The grill and the deck are perfect, along with the fire pit. Enjoyed the view while reading a book or two.
We have been watching this property for several years and finally decided it was time. It was all we wanted and more, we will be coming back.
Thanks to Shannon for answering all my questions, and for Joe being a saint for renting such a beautiful home.

Cross Village and the Good Hart area has been a favorite vacation spot for me and my family for almost 30 years, and Cranmer Hearth was the best stay ever. The home is absolutely lovely and accommodating, and the beach is wonderful and private. We enjoyed the well equipped kitchen and great out-door barbecue on the deck and sandy landing near beach, where star gazing is terrific. There are lots of things to do in the area: Good Hart stores, very tasty crepes, Cross Village's Legs Inn, and a new restaurant, Old World Cafe, with fresh squeezed orange juice, workshops atThree Pines studio, Pond Hill Farm, Mackinac Island, Harbor Springs, Tom's Mom's Cookies, and Petoskey. We discovered Moosejaw Junction, a nearby restaurant, because I read the reviews in the guest book. Although there are many activities, we loved our stay at Cranmer Hearth the best. It was very special! We will return!
I have stayed in over a dozen vacation homes and this was one of my favorites. Well-equipped, easy booking, responsive owner...a home run for our vacation with Nana, Pop-pop, their children and grand children. Plenty of space for everyone to spread out. Lots of different things for everyone to do. The downstairs den was a great escape for the kids when we weren't at the beach.
There was even a lime zester for our pork marinade. How many vacation homes are so well equipped that there is a lime zester???
My finace and I stayed here for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed everything about Cranmer Hearth. The drive, to and from, was gorgeous. The home was nestled back off the road and surrounded by trees with a clear view straight to the beach and Lake Michigan. We threw all the windows open and allowed the scent of the forest to fill the almost palatial volume of the master bedroom. Peaceful sentences of light breeze were punctuated with the sound of nature; birds, squirrels and deer. There are lots of nooks to curl up in and read a book or play a board game, plenty of room in the Great Room to play a game of charades with 5, 10 or 15 of your closest friends and family. It was mesmerizing to lay a blanket out on the floor and watch the flames dance in the stone fire place. Cranmer Hearth strikes a perfect balance between the old and new with the decidedly modern yet rustic feel of the design and decor.
Although, somewhat secluded, it's just a short drive to Mackinaw City for some entertainment, shopping and great food. Or, I would recommend, taking a trip the other way (through the tunnel of trees, along the coast of Lake Michigan) and visiting the quaint little town of Harbor Springs.
We couldn't have asked for a better time while we were there, and would both highly recommend Cranmer Hearth for either a secluded lover's getaway or a family and friend filled ball.
Another fabulous stay. The house easily accommodates all our family and friends who join us over the 2 week stay. Very private and peaceful; well cared for and has all the amenities we need. The booking process is always professional and organized. Hope to be back next summer!!
Our multi-generational family spent a wonderful week at gorgeous Cranmer Hearth. The layout was perfect with several bedroom options that fully met the needs of our group. It's a beautiful place, inside and out. The common areas - kitchen, dining area, and living room - were comfortable and functional. We loved the deck and the fire pit and spent many hours along the Lake Michigan shore - walking for miles, swimming, skipping stones, playing beach games. The house is close enough to walk the beach to Leg's Inn for dinner (and a walk back is required if you order dessert!). We loved biking M119, too. A dream family vacation!
