We had the most restful break in your cozy home .Only did one modest hike/walk around Bass Lake. Peggy nearly finished a big painting. Much reading and Olympics. Lots of good meals. Bought several things at Art in the Park. But, the best luck was total serendipity. We ran into a Charleston gallery owner. Spent some quality time with him and his wife. He asked Peggy to hang her oils in his gallery! So, you brought us good fortune.
I was hesitant to rent this cabin based off the last review I read, I am so happy that we decided to give it a try anyway. I truly believe some people will just never be happy. This place is a dream, beautiful, very cozy, and clean! The house is fully stocked with everything needed to make your stay pleasant! I have stayed and many vrbo properties and can honestly say this one was my favorite. The owners are very kind and easy to work with. The location is amazing, so beautiful, surrounding waterfalls, ski resorts within minutes. It was a little hard to find coming in at night but once we found it we were all good. There are plenty of beds to go around for sure. We cooked every meal, found the kitchen fully stocked. The fireplace was amazing, warms up the house in just a few minutes. Having 3 bathrooms was great after playing in the snow. The washer and dryer was so nice to have to dry up all out wet clothes. One of our favorite parts was Goliath (the dog), he lives somewhere near by, he was so cute coming around to play with the kids. We could not be happier and can't wait to rent again!!! Thank you so much!
Be prepared for a 20-25 minute commute to reach any civilization from the cabin. It is very out of the way even from the nearest town.
Bring your own pillows. The provided ones are extremely flat and uncomfortable.
None of the above listed things would cause me to write a negative review. I was prepared for a commute as I am familiar with the winding mountain roads of NC. However, the cabin was very unclean. There were mouse droppings in the pullout couch that were discovered during the first night. The owner was notified of this via email immediately and a response was never received for the duration of the stay. During the second night, the entire family was awoken by said mouse or mice scratching and moving around in the walls or cabinets in the kitchen. It was so loud that it could be heard throughout the house, including up the stairs. This made sleeping difficult and unsettling. Thankfully, we did not purchase groceries for cooking in the kitchen as I would not feel comfortable actually preparing food in a kitchen inhabited by mice. We actually left the night before our check out date and drove home rather than spending another restless night in the cabin.
This properly needs an extremely thorough cleaning and an exterminator before it is rented to anyone else.
When we made the decision to stay here we did look at the other reviews - we didn't expect it to be new but we relied on them to some extent - especially the cleanliness factor. After arriving it was evident that between the 2012 review and August 2014 some things had changed. The pictures showing the property are essentially correct. The furnishngs are two years older and their. condition has changed. The kitchen is very small with the dining table (small) separating it from the living room. The area is smaller than the picture conveys. The kitchen has very kittle storage, the pots and pans are scratched and old- the teflon coating is very bad in the skillet. A cast iron skillet had been put away with burnt food. To use it would have required scrubbing and re-seasoning to use it. The first floor BR closet had some of the owners possessions and a storage bag. The floor of the closet had a mouse trap and mouse droppings scattered about. I called the owner and told him of the conditions and our disappointment. He suggested that we buy pots and pans and he would reimpburse me. He also suggested that we take a trash bag and put all their possessions in it and store it somewhere in the house. I told him that wouldn't be necessary that the mouse droppings and overall condition of the house just didn't measure up to our expectations. He indicated that a refund couldn't be considered because we had rented it for the month and he had taken it off the market. I understand but don't agree with his position. We did not even spend one night in the property. So I would caution people considering this property to obtain a written contract spelling out issues such as the above.
We rented this adorable cabin for our kids 1st ski trip. It was so perfect , as it's centrally located to each mountain in the area. Much more room in person. The pictures just don't do it justice ! So clean and well kept. We'll definitely be back !! Thank you.
Our family arrived on october 19 and left on the 22nd. The moment we arrived the home was so inviting and upon entering it was so cozy and well decorated thoughout. The beds were so comfortable and everything you needed was there! just bring your luggage and you are set. The owners were great to work with and answered all questions before our arrival! the weather was perfect and the nearby festival in Banner Elk is not to be missed. The restaurants in Blowing Rock were as near perfect as you could ask for. Will be going again!
My wife and I were looking for a place to get away from the heat and humidity of Charleston, SC. We found this lovely home not far from the wonderful little town of Blowing Rock, NC. We had a great time exploring the area and loved the cooler temps and no humidity. The location is just minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway which we explored everyday. The home is charming, very clean and with plenty of room. Great large decks made a great setting for our morning breakfast.
Short drive to downtown Blowing Rock, Boone, Grandfather Mountain Park, Tweetsie Railroad, Hang Gliding, Zip Line, Kayaking, Horse Back Riding and Hilking. Trails
