About Martin Lee

I lived in NC for 8 years and enjoyed this home as perfect for water skis and boating. Located on large open water, yet off main channel, I fund it to be the best location on the lake for less trafficed high speed jet ski fun! I grew up in Ireland but I have lived in the US since college. I have enjoyed meeting many wonderful people over this past 8 years or so while offering this unique home on HomeAway.

Martin Lee purchased this house in 2006

Why Martin Lee chose North Carolina

The quiet cul-de-sac street and unique looking appearance of quaintness. The wrap around driveway and fenced in yard is great and makes the property feel large and explorable. The view from the lakeside screened porch on the main level is awesome. This has to be the largest oven cove on the lake.

What makes this house unique

Definately the huge over cove which is perfect for water skiing or boating in general. The water slide for the kids on the dock!

Nice and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here last June. We had a great time and spend a lot of time swimmer and hanging out on dock. Everything was great. The only thing was gates don't close so we used wire ties to hold close to keep dogs in. If I had any bad to say it would be that our cleaning deposit was not returned. With that being said I can garauntee that we left cleaner than we arrived. We where cleaning dog hair up that didn't even match ours. Also cleaned the limbs out of yard after a storm cuz the dogs thought they were chew toys. Also guests might want to check grill when get there for gas. We got our supper ready the first night and got surprised with empty tank

Old, smelly house, great location

  • 3 of 5

The house was old and smelly, the downstairs bedrooms were musty (one bad enough, we decided not to use) the kitchen is beat up but usable, utensils and necessities not organized in any particular order. Eating area does not accommodate 10 people, which it should, as that's the number of people house sleeps. Couches in basement are uncomfortable (one so bad, you really shouldn't sit on, as you my hurt yourself on wood back)

The location is great, even though overgrown trees, bushes and weeds block the view of the beautiful lake.

The round around driveway, very convenient for loading and unloading stuff.

A week after checking out, still waiting on cleaning fee deposit which is with no doubt due back to me. We left the place cleaner than we found it.

One hot week in July!

  • 3 of 5

My family (wife, daughter & son-in-law and 2 dogs stayed at the Chalet for a week in late July.

This house, though dated, is very large, and is appointed for those with young children and pets.

At 3 stories, the bottom floor has 3 bedrooms - 1 bath, kitchen, dining area & den atmosphere with cable TV, the middle floor is large enough to put mattresses or blow up beds, a nice sitting area (with another TV) which leads on to a screened porch area, and spiral stairs lead to the 3rd floor (loft), which has 4 single beds with it's own A/C unit.

The second story also has both a foosball and basketball game to enjoy and entertain.

The large dock, which accommodates 2 boats and jet ski's, is located on a quiet cove, far away from the major activities that take place out in the main channel of Lake Norman, but easily accessible from this location.

There are 2 kayaks w/ life jackets available.

While we were there, we did have some A/C problems from the main unit, but Marty (owner) had them resolved quickly, and was attentive to our needs.

Awesome vacation home!!!

  • 5 of 5

This past weekend was the third time I have stayed in this home in the past 3 years. My wife and I have rented several homes on Lake Norman over the is past 6 Years and this one is by far our favorite and will always be our first choice. It meets all of our needs and expectations. The owner, Marty, has always been very informative and very easy to communicate with. The pier, boat dock, fire pit area and house itself are exactly what we look for in a short vacation home on the lake. Thank you so much for having this home available to rent on the lake!!! Hope to stay again real soon.

Amazing vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family spent a week at this quaint chalet. We enjoyed the beautiful view, rented a pontoon boat for 3 days, and loved every minute of our stay. I asked the property manager a few questions. Got a quick response and a follow up phone call just to confirm all of our needs were met. Thank you for this exceptional experience. We will be returning!!!!!

Disappointed to say the least

  • 1 of 5

My husband and I were so disappointed by this rental and feel like we were misled by this VRBO advertisement. First of all, it was advertised in it's property description..."and has been recently completely remodeled." How can this be the case? It had all dated and worn furnishings and appliances. One of the couches downstairs smelled like dirty wet dog, the downstairs bedroom was so musty and smelly that we couldn't sleep in it. The kitchen was an assortment of mismatching and old pots, pans, utensils. There were accessories missing or that didn't work that should be in a kitchen in order to cook, i.e.:can opener didn't work, no blender or beater. I emailed the owner to at least get a blender but didn't hear back. There was a dirty smelly sponge in the kitchen in order to clean, no soap in the bathrooms. We ran out of toilet paper on the last day. looked in the cabinets. Used 3 rolls during our stay.

All this, plus they expected us to make our own beds upon arrival, (late with kids), strip them upon departure, also clean the kitchen, stove, wipe down the refrigerator, sweep the place, and take out the garbage.

I had left a note on the counter when we left for the owner and heard no explanation or apology back. I had to get in touch with them in order to get our cleaning deposit back.

We have rented through VRBO many times before and have never had an experience even close to this.

Owner's Response: Dear future renters. As you can see this is my first negative review on this home, and as such I take it seriously and have invested time in properly understanding the severity and context of each complaint listed from this guest. I have confirmed that certain missing items mentioned were actually available (blender and mixer) but not found in the cabinet where stored. I have confirmed that there were 3 roles of toilet paper left in each of the 2 bathrooms upon turnover which should have been sufficient for 5 occupants for 4 days. I have had the home inspected and found it free of any mold or mildew. I have confirmed that an expensive de-humidifier I keep in the lower level is operational and inspected weekly by my property manager. I regret that my wording regarding remodeling did not list the specific items that were updated. Namely hardwood floors throughout and remodeled main bathroom. I have correctly the listing wording to reflect more accurately. I have found that a convertible sectional sleeper was in need of replacement, due to a very recent guest allowing a number of dogs on there that were not disclosed (rented as no pets so we did not check specifically for pet problems) and those dogs had soiled the sleeper in the basement living room area. We did not detect this odor problem prior to this guest arriving, but now it has been removed and replaced. I advise all guests to contact my Property Manager (Name and Phone# posted in the Home) or my Cleaner (Name and Phone# posted in the Home) for ALL items needed when you stay there and ALL issues you might need addressed. They are available immediately and have my authorization to provide anything needed and treat all issues as high priority. This guest emailed me instead (out of state) and as luck would have it in hospital having Achilles Tendon surgery during that exact time and so I could not respond or react. Somewhat related to the review tone and by my reasonable assertion an exaggeration of issues, we found the condition of the property upon check out of this guest well below standard. A full return of the cleaning deposit was nevertheless refunded. I encourage guests to read all reviews and contact me directly with suggestions, requests or when possible to preview this home before making a final renting decision. I have every confidence you will find it as welcoming, outfitted and of great value as my numerous other reviewers. Kayaks will be added for Summer season 2016. Thanks.
