AREA ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS
The scenery here is amazing. There is a gorgeous view of both Mt Antero and Mt Boulder off the front deck. Cabin is extremely quiet and private, and provides a starting point with access to all the best spots in the area. The cabin is located only 1/4 mile from the jeep road that ascends to the summit of Mt Antero (one of the exclusive locations in the US where aquamarine is found). An advantage also unique to this property is that it provides a starting point for ATV, trail bike, or snow mobile access to all the high country without hauling or trailing. The off-road vehicles can be unloaded at the cabin, and then driven to Mt Antero, Mt Boulder, the ghost town of St Elmo, Hancock (town or pass), Tincup pass, and the various alpine lakes such as Baldin, Hancock, Pomeroy, etc.
A general store is located at St Elmo, which is an excellent place to purchase gift items, and also rent ATV’s for exploring the surrounding high country. Buena Vista (17 miles), and Salida (30 miles) provide all necessary shopping and also have many nice restaurants, plus various interesting shops. Monarch mountain is approximately 35 miles away and provides excellent skiing and yet is reasonably priced.
The Mt Princeton hot springs pools are located about 9 miles back down the mountain, as well as a convenience store for gas and food. A fine restaurant is also located at the Mt Princeton facility.
Horse stables which provide fantastic trail riding are also located about 7 miles from Alpine, close to the interesting chalk cliffs.
The Arkansas river is excellent fishing year round, and has an incredible Caddis hatch in the spring, and is located about 13 miles away. Local fishing is on Chalk creek (which flows within a couple of hundred yards of the cabin), and excellent fishing for larger cutthroat trout can be had in several of the high alpine lakes nearby. All of this trout water is accessible by ATV.
Hiking and ATV riding starts at the property and is as good as it gets anywhere in the Rocky Mountains.
Cabin is located in Chalk Creek Gulch on Highway 162, which intersects with Highway 285 between Buena Vista and Salida. It is approximately a two hour drive from the Colorado Springs airport, and a three hour drive from the Denver airport.
A web site that has a brief description of the historic alpine town site where the cabin is located can be found

We purchased this property in this location because of its safety, the quality of the community, the beauty of the surrounding country side, and all the activities available in the area.
The property has excellent year round access via passenger car, yet is remarkably quiet and private. The cool, dry mountain air of the high country has a fragrance and ambience that incredible.
Coming here was a wonderfully peaceful stop along out way. The deer, chipmunks, and the beautiful scenery were just a few of the joys we experienced. Thank you for your hospitality.
The two of us had an excellent time at your cozy cabin. We really enjoyed being able to atv from the cabin. the scenery was exceptional especially on the atv ride up Mt. Antero. We would for sure stay in the cabin again.
My husband and I stayed at Scott's cabin for a week in August. What an amazing experience. We have traveled to this area for a great number of years and usually stay in a motel...never again. This cabin was exactly (actually, better) as described. The view from the front deck is amazing and a wonderful way to start and end the day. There is everything you need for a delightful stay.
The cabin was a great place to stay for the scenery and location for our trip for riding the trails. Scott made us feel very welcome, the cabin was clean and very comfortable. Everything we needed to prepare our meals and enjoy the cool evenings on the deck. Being able to observe all the wildlife in the evenings was also a great benefit.
Great place to stay.
stayed three nights with my buddy.we rode tandem in my Polaris razor after my ATV gave out the first evening[oop's].beautiful weather and pretty scenery.we rode hancock pass to pitkin, tin cup pass and the alpine tunnel across the palisade's.this was the best riding my 45 year old self has ever done and ive been riding 25 years.three days was not nearly enough time to enjoy it.the cabin was just perfect.way to big for two guys but it was great having the space.cabin was very clean and had everything we needed.couldnt say enough about the sleep i got in the downstairs bedroom.great view from the front deck.good spot to sit and have a cold one.it was so dark at night at the cabin i could hardly see my hand in front of my face.and very quiet there too.we both enjoyed it and do want to return.the only thing negative i would say is the residents of alpine want to ban atv's from riding the streets which would defeat the whole purpose of staying at the cabin for an atv trip.hopefully the politics go away and everything stays the same.we stayed 8-10 thru 8-12 i believe.excellant stay.thanks,scott.
My husband and I stayed July 5th-10th at this cozy (VERY CLEAN)!!! cabin nestled in the woods. We brought our dual sport bikes and had a absolutely wonderful time. Tincup Pass was an incredible ride, and the drive (through) Mirror Lake was an (unexpected) blast!
As frequent travelers, we had to give this cabin a five star rating. Not only is it exactly as described, it was better. Very quiet community, the only other living being we met was Molly, an adorable Golden Retriever that joined us for a walk one evening. Kitchen had absolutely everything we needed to cook, not once did we eat out. There was a speaker system that attached to my ipod, which gave us just the right amount of ambiance at night.
The proximity to the Ghost Town of St. Elmo was an added delight, as we enjoyed playing with the chipmunks so much we went back twice.
All around, fantastic cabin for a wonderful vacation! And, the damage deposit was promptly returned!
Thank you, Scott, for your excellent hospitality!
This was our second time to stay at Scott's cabin, and we can't wait for our third!!! Everything about the cabin and location is perfect. The beds are comfy, the kitchen has all you need and the living areas are cozy. However, the front deck is where you will want to spend most of your time relaxing and enjoying the view.
