More beautiful and relaxing than staying at a motel. This is a lower level 600 sq ft efficiency in the lower walkout level of a private home overlooking a tidal marsh. There is a private entrance and patio with beautiful peaceful water and marsh views. This bright and tasteful, nautically decorated one bedroom apartment has a king size bed, full bath with shower. Bring your binoculars to view the abundant marsh wildlife, and bring your bikes for riding and picnicking along the Cape Cod canal.
This property is located within an easy walk (1/5 of a mile) to a bay-side ocean beach, the famous boardwalk, and historic downtown Sandwich. Sandwich has plenty of shopping, antique shops, museums, and many local restaurants (several within walking distance).
We booked two nights (Sunday and Monday nights) for this studio but when we showed up at the door on Sunday morning Nancy told me she had someone stayed at her studio until tomorrow.
She said that she's sorry...and asked me what do I want her to do? She can't throw the people downstair out...It was her mistake by not keeping the schedule straight yet she asked me what to do? Nancy is a real estate agent, lives in Sandwich and confronted me (the renter from California) the question instead offered some help.
I sent the deposit as she told me way in advance and didn't expect this to happen since we've been travelling around the East Coast and have made all the plans.
She's extremely rude to me ( I don't like to give a bad review) she gave me my deposit back and slammed the door on me as if It was all my fault.
I understand we are all human and we make mistake but she needs to own it and don't blame someone else for your own mistake. And she caused us lots of inconvenience at the last minute try to find the place to stay.
She later realized it and had called to offer us if we can find somewhere else to stay for the night and we can stay at her place on Monday night for free, something she should offer right at the beginning instead of slam the door on me. Of course we don't want to go back there anymore or have anything to do with her.
This is the sixth year we have stayed at this place, and it was great, as always. The view of the marsh is constantly changing as the tides change. The description of the place is spot-on accurate. Dan and Nancy are the perfect hosts. Our favorite biking paths are along the Canal. Our favorite restaurant is Seafood Sam's.
The unit was dirty when I arrived - it appeared not to have been cleaned between rentals. The bathroom sink was dirty, the refrigerator was dirty, the shower had black hair in it and the sheets had black hair all over them. The beach is also not 1/5 a mile away - I measured it - it's 4/10 of a mile. It is a very cute unit but I was insulted to think the owner thought it was OK to leave someone else's dirt behind for me to live in. I paid the owner directly - next time I would rent a unit where you pay VRBO or Homeaway directly so you have some recourse.
Husband and I spent Memorial Day weekend here and we couldn't have picked a better place. It was relaxing, quiet and the view was to die for. The room was so comfy, cozy and clean. We were very comfortable. The beach, the salt marsh and several good eateries were all within walking distance, and we walked a lot! Nancy was an awesome host. We loved the backyard...it was great for just sitting and bird-watching. Husband said watching the train run by in the distance at night was "magical." Thank you again, Nancy!
- wonderful location on the upper Cape. Great for making day trips, or for just staying in place and enjoying Sandwich.
- great accommodation for two: spacious studio, comfortable king-size bed, refreshing shower, relaxing patio with picture-book view of the marsh and creek past the lovely garden.
- Everything a guest could want has been accommodated: bottle of wine, coffee and fixings, snacks, guide books, towels and toiletries...
- quiet and private, a lovely retreat in a peaceful setting.
- Owners Dan and Nancy are friendly and accommodating.
- Nancy knows the Cape intimately and can provide information for any outing you may contemplate.
After some searching for a last minute bolt to Cape Cod, we found this wonderful studio. Close enough to enjoy day trips to Boston and area, yet remote enough to be disconnected from daily routines
Dan and Nancy are wonderful hosts, and made us very welcome. The ever changing views of the Sandwich salt marsh were a daily pleasure and even with poor weather, our spirits weren't dampened in the least.
The way that the studio is staged with different living areas makes it feel like so much more than a place to lay your head.
Excellent location, great amenities, and outstanding hosts make this a come-back spot for us.
We will return again.
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod. It is located on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal with the majority of its land mass on the southerly side. Sandwich beaches stretch for miles along Cape Cod Bay and provide a wonderful view on a clear day of the many vessels that pass through and near the Cape Cod Canal. Commercial fishermen and lobster men can be seen daily from the docks at the Sandwich Marina, the only harbor along the canal. Historic Sandwich Village which is a renowned tourist destination provides many glimpses into New England's rich colonial history. Visit the Hoxie House (the oldest house on Cape Cod), the Dexter Grist Mill, Heritage Plantation, the Thornton Burgess Museum, the Sandwich Glass Museum, and more. A jewel of this area is a seven mile barrier beach, Sandy Neck. If you are lucky enough to have a four wheel drive (with permit) you can drive out and enjoy the beautiful sand dunes.
A deposit of 50% of the rental is required upon booking. The balance is due upon arrival. . . .Holiday weekends are a 3 night minimum stay.
