Charles and Kristy Herrick live in Issaquah, Washington just east of Seattle in the foothills. Charles does relief work in Africa, India and Afghanistan as well as executive work in the IT industry. He is an author and several of his books are available for reading and a complimentary copy of his book Breath of Kenya is given to our guests as a way of saying thank you. Kristy is an avid gardener. She raises llamas and a bulldog named Bullard. She weaves, spins and knits. Bullard does nothing.
Kristy & Charles Herrick purchased this house in 1997
Wonderful seclusion just an hour's ferry ride from Anacortes. San Juan is quaint and a bit yesteryear. Friday Harbor is a small town with just about everything you need except for franchise stores. San Juan gets about a third of the rainy days of Seattle. The main road is only a mile away and it's a calm rural road which is great for running, walking or bike riding. Turning right just before the winery and heading down a tree arched road we fell in love with our 6 acres of paradise. It is perhaps the finest piece of property on the Island.
Seclusion. Fishing, crabbing, and tide pool viewing. Unparalleled bird and wildlife viewing. Waterfront cookouts. Water, wonderful view of other islands and Mt. Baker.
Myself along with other friends are nurse who take a retreat once a year to get away from it all and relax. This year we decided to go to the San Juan Islands. The owners were so easy to work with and nice. Their housekeeper Jennifer left a nice note with her number in case we needed her. The property is amazing. The house was stocked with everything you need and is very private. We would rent there again next year but we will have too many people (10-14). We are keeping it in mind for other years though with fewer people.
This property is simply amazing, I know the island very well and this by far is a favorite. The view of the ocean from the property is priceless and we will definitely come back. The home was clean and comfortable. A piece of heaven:):)
The house was well-appointed with everything we could need. It was clean, comfortable, and cozy. It's right by the water, which made for a lovely view. We spent most of our time relaxing, reading, talking, and playing board games. It was the perfect way to get away from everything for a few days. I look forward to returning someday.
My husband and I spent 5 nights here for a 40th anniversary trip. We spent a lot of time reading on the spacious deck and gazing at the water before us. Lots of birds and watched a couple of seals when off in the distance a solitary whale swam up the channel. I felt so lucky to see it. We had plenty of time to explore the island and had perfect weather. Thank you to Kristy and Charles for allowing dogs on their property. Our golden retriever was very happy!
We loved our stay here on San Juan Island. Breakfasts and dinners on the deck overlooking the water were wonderful. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and barbecuing. There was a bald eagle nest in one of the trees outside the front door, and my college-age son took some wonderful photos. My two children and their two cousins enjoyed the sleeping loft, while the main bedroom suited my husband and I just great. Friday Harbor town was a short drive away.
My husband and I wanted to escape the East Coast and its hectic pace. When we arrived at Point Caution and this property, we found a bit of heaven. We loved how nature enveloped us, the sun...the eagles...the channel...the fish. We even saw a double rainbow. It was a spectacular week enjoying all the islands have to offer. This kitchen is the best stocked of any home I have rented. My favorite spot was the fire pit, ready each evening to lead us into dusk and rest. You will be enchanted by the location. Head west to this special getaway.
Wildlife: The property has all kinds of birds and animals passing through that you rarely see on the mainland: Foxes, tiny San Juan deer, eagles, owls, osprey, woodpeckers. Right off shore you'll see seals, otters and an occasional sea lion. There are several whale viewing spots on the Island.
