Utter Seclusion on 600 Feet of Waterfront , Free WiFi

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 5 nights

About the property

House, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)

Situated on over six secluded acres along 600 feet of both rocky and sandy beach, this contemporary home sits on one of San Juan Island's largest stretches of private waterfront, attracting deer, owls, fox, seals, otters and bald eagles. Take in the 180 degree view from Spieden Island to Mount Baker. You will welcome the amazing morning sunrises to spectacular sunsets from this uniquely situated home.

We supply crab pots, shrimp pots and dip nets which you can use right off the beach. Go down at night with a flashlight and the dip net. Shine the light into the water and the shrimp come to the surface. Some guests like to scuba dive off our property which is full of crab and scallop.

There are two areas to launch kayaks and this side of the Island is the safest and almost always calm.

We also own property in the large area to our south. While our 600 feet is completely private, there is a long sandy beach is next to ours and there is never anyone on it. So you will have a quarter mile of ocean front to yourselves.

The open floor plan in this home has a spiral staircase to sleeping loft that sleeps 4. The bedroom has super-comfortable California King bed with views of the water. The casual dining right off the completely equipped kitchen and just steps from the outdoor deck. Wood stove in the living room will make this a pleasant stay in cooler months too!

Free WIFI. Wireless internet is available for guests.

Dog friendly too. Dogs are welcome with small additional fee. Sorry, no cats.

Why Kristy & Charles Herrick chose Friday Harbor

Wonderful seclusion just an hour's ferry ride from Anacortes. San Juan is quaint and a bit yesteryear. Friday Harbor is a small town with just about everything you need except for franchise stores. San Juan gets about a third of the rainy days of Seattle. The main road is only a mile away and it's a calm rural road which is great for running, walking or bike riding. Turning right just before the winery and heading down a tree arched road we fell in love with our 6 acres of paradise. It is perhaps the finest piece of property on the Island.

What makes this house unique

Seclusion. Fishing, crabbing, and tide pool viewing. Unparalleled bird and wildlife viewing. Waterfront cookouts. Water, wonderful view of other islands and Mt. Baker.

We enjoyed the water, sky, woods, rocky shoreline, lawn. A place that reminds you about breathing and all that is good. Ahhhhh...

Private rental on relaxing island

  • 5 of 5

Great property on the water. Zero problems.

Directions were helpful, plus our GPS accurately directed us to the house. Easy to access the key on arrival.

House was clean and well stocked. Coffee pot (with filters), French press, and grinder were ideal.

Towels were plentiful, plus a few soft blankets in the living room. Heaters kept us plenty warm on the cools october nights too.

The inside fire place was easy to use, no fuss or mess. The outside one was there and nice, but we didn’t use it.

Yard was wide and private. Could not see neighbors at all.

Saw a whale / porpoise out the back. Threw the crab pot in and caught 1 after a few hours. Lots of deer around the house too.

Driveway was not paved but well maintained mile.

Great for us and our dog. All around a perfect rental.

Sadly we had a medical emergency and weren't able to fully enjoy the property, but everything was available to have had a great stay. We need to book this another time and hope for stars aligning better.

We had a wonderful stay at the house! We even saw Orcas swimming by one evening while we were sitting on the porch! It is a beautiful home and so quiet and peaceful. We would stay again for sure! Just perfect :)

nice stay at Pt Caution

Very nice house right on the bay and very close to Friday Harbor. The house had all the amenities needed for a get away. Deck and outside chairs offer excellent view of vessels coming in and out of the harbor. Would rent it again

Napa CA

Beautiful view and yes, utter seclusion !

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful location, off the grid, rustic. Hard for us older folk to haul our kayaks down the stairs. Be prepared if you bring a bike, you are almost a mile on gravel road to main road. Could use a good carpet cleaning. If you just like to chill and enjoy the view and privacy this is the place!

Owner's Response: So sorry that our guests from Napa were impacted by these items. Our house has had nothing but perfectly happy visitors for 10 years and we seek to accommodate when someone brings something to our attention. We did everything we could to make this stay possible, including working with another guest on the timing of their stay. The result was a reservation in and out on the same day. The prior guests, a delightful couple, unfortunately spilled something just outside of the kitchen on our newly cleaned white carpet. We did not charge them for this but we weren't able to get the spots off before this next guest arrived. Our housekeeper, Jennifer, lives nearby and would have been happy to come over with the carpet cleaner. We had it steam-cleaned again as soon as possible. Kayaking is one of the reasons people rent our home. It is on the non-windy side of the Island. It is safe and it's a real adventure to paddle over to other Islands on the channel. Since the property is quite large (6 acres) it might be hard for an elderly couple to get 17-foot kayaks to the water, but there are now two places to launch. I'm 65 and it has never been a problem for me or my other guests. In fact, we will soon be making 3 full-sized sea kayaks available at the house so that people don't have to bring their own. The Island is a biker's paradise and the long tree-arched lane out to the winery and Road is gorgeous and pleasant. It gives us seclusion and it is a favorite for bikers and joggers because it is so tranquil. You often see deer and other wildlife on the way. It is lightly covered with gravel but it's a hard surface that is well maintained year round. Our home has consistently had the highest ratings in VRBO, with many repeat customers. For most people it is an amazing spot of heaven. We will continue to keep it that way.
