Sunset Bluff - Fully restored and updated 4 Bed/3 Bath Home on Lake Michigan

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

About the property

100' of white sand beach, 4 bed, 3 bath, sleeps 8-10, great value!

Welcome to Sunset Bluff- Redux! On the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. Just five miles north of downtown St. Joe/Benton Harbor.

This home has had its rebirth. An extensive renovation has been completed and the pictures are the pudding! Come and see why we are the best value for your family getaway before we are booked solid!

This wonderful home sits atop a large sand bluff overlooking Lake Michigan and its pure white sandy beach. Accordingly, this home has some of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable.

Our entire home has underdone an extensive renovation and cleaning. The kitchen and bathrooms are brand new with modern, luxury finishes and fixtures. The living and dining rooms have been wonderfully opened up allowing our guests to play freely throughout the home, all with spectacular views of the water.

The kitchen is fully equipped to cook your indoor meals and offers a breakfast bar and cozy booth seating.

On the front lawn, we have a charcoal and propane grill for your outdoor BBQs. Our large lawn and lawn furniture is the perfect place to watch the stunning sunsets while enjoying our portable fire pit.

The home comfortably sleeps eight to ten guests. Large groups can be accommodated by owner approval. We offer four separate bedrooms -two on the main level and another two on the upper level.

But that's not all!

Our semi-private beach (shared with our sister property, 'The Darn Barn'), is the big attraction and is more than 100 feet wide of white sand and clear fresh water just made for swimming and wandering along for as many miles as you like.

We are located approximately 5 miles north of St. Joseph along the shore highway (M63 to our home) with the Jack Nicolas designed Harbor Shores golf course in between.

Our home provides plenty of space and comfort for a weekend getaway or week-long retreat. Two dining areas provide plenty of extra space for those extra warm evenings for eating indoors. Although there is air conditioning, the lower level stays cool and exits at ground level. It is comfortably old and wonderful to live in... and just a short walk to our own private beach.

We welcome you to come stay on beautiful Lake Michigan and enjoy Sunset Bluff... our little slice of Heaven!

Please note that in July and August we only book full week rentals.

For longer stays, please contact for a custom quote.

We'd love to have you as our guest!

Views are great, house is just okay

  • 2 of 5

The property manager was very friendly and prompt with responding. I appreciate that I was able to get the house well in advance and for less than a week minimum like many other properties around St. Joe during early June. But, I had to pay by sending a check in the mail, which is inconvenient and unheard of in 2017, when most properties accept some sort of online payment. The house has well water and no water softening or filter system. This was likely our biggest complaint because the sulfur taste and smell is putrid. It is very big and sleeps many more than we had staying, but the chairs in the living room were visibly broken, the dryer didn't work (didn't spin or blow heat) and the first floor shower was scalding hot, unless someone was taking a shower somewhere else in the house. The "garage" door was left open after someone mowed, and it was stuffed full of junk and was perfectly visible from the house.

Excellent for a large group

  • 5 of 5

A group of 14 of us came in from Vhicago and stayed weekend. They have two fridges and the place is really nice and clean. The outdoor yard had a love view, firepit, grills, and access to the private beach. It's a long way down, but worth it. We would definitely stay here again and I highly recommed it!

Can't beat the view.

  • 4 of 5

Once the car transitioned to park my eyes could help but be fixed on the magnificent view from the top of the bluff. From a distance you could hear the water lapping on the sandy beach that stretched for miles in either direction. The sunset was ... pure magic, as the glowing red/orange ball dipped itself just beyond the reach of my eyes into the cool waters of the lake.

The house was very spacious with a modern kitchen and bath on the first floor. Access to the grill was key because we enjoy cooking and ate in every night. The large family room gave us enough space to huddle around the coffee table and play games deep into the night. I will definitely be coming back for family weekend part two.

Excellent Home, Quiet Location, Private Beach

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a spacious home for a family get-a-way or a trip with friends, this is a great place.

Let me first say that there are a number of reviews that are not fair to the owners or those that take care of the property. We had some concerns when booking the house because of these reviews but I found them to be untrue and unfair. The house was clean when we arrived, was fully stocked with linens towels and any kitchen tool we needed. The remodel that was performed this past winter turned out great and I would be more than happy to rent out the Sunset Bluff again.

Onto my review... The place is big, we had 18 guys staying over the course of 3 nights and while a few of us may have slept on the floor, there was plenty of space. We used the kitchen to prepare most of our meals had no issues with any of the appliances.

The backyard was a pleasant surprise as it was much larger and more private than anticipated. With both a gas and charcoal grill, a fire pit and two outdoor tables to compliment the nice back porch; our group thoroughly enjoyed the backyard.

Getting to the beach was a hike - something around 220 steps. However it was a great setting, on two nights we had a bonfire on the beach and a couple of us put up tents and slept right there - not sure if either of these are allowed but we saw other fires down the beach and were not told otherwise. Almost no one came through the area, which was perfect for our group. I will say that at the bottom of the stairs getting to the beach the owner should probably build some steps or a platform to make that portion easier, after a day of drinking the 3 foot step was difficult to ascend.

One thing to be mindful of is the water pressure. I strongly advise that you do not try to use more than one source of water at a time - flushing the toilet while someone is showering nearly eliminates water from the shower. Just plan around it and this is not an issue.

The owner was a pleasure to deal with, he stopped by on one of the mornings to do some lawn maintenance. We thought we would get some negative feedback for the state of the yard - think Animal House... He was pleasant and not intrusive at all and sent back my deposit within days of our departure.

I have to say, you should rent this place and have a great time.
