Richard or Jill Lutz purchased this house in 1983
Guests enjoy Jill's mother's artwork as well as Jill's handcrafted ceramics. Richard's craftsmanship is obvious throughout the home from inlaid maple stairs to utilizing wood pieces they have gathered from all over the United States. The home is many steps about the standard rentals in the area. One feels like they are truely welcome in this lovely home made with much pride and tender loving care!
When Jill and I first traveled in this area and rented a nearby cottage, we instantly fell in love with the beautiful wooded lake views and above all the quiet. To fall asleep at night listening to the waves gently washing ashore is a dream in itself. Our friend who owns a home nearby called us letting us know his cousin was selling this cottage. We drove up in the dead of winter, walked back to the cottage and we noticed a sign hanging next to the door. 'Greenwood' We looked around and our view was the many 100 foot tall pines standing out against the beautiful white snow covered lake. We were in love and immediately made a call to purchase what was soon to be our home.
Great cottage -- beautiful woodwork; great 'space' for community and privacy; nice hot tub and separate jucuzi bath; good access to the lake. It's not on the lake itself, but excellent access down a hill.
Have you ever lived in a gallery? Me neither! Until now! Our family of 5 (2 kids, grandma and parents) plus the dog stayed at this cottage at the end of August. It's is a beautiful house! Warm, inviting, comfortable. We all want to come back. Besides being decorated throughout with items that the owners had collected from local Michigan artists, there are beautiful details in the house itself. Like the wood inlay on the stair risers and the trim work on the doors. It is also a very comfortable place to stay. All the amenities are there and the kitchen is fully stocked with pots and pans and proper utensils. My kids wanted to move there!
A beautifully decorated cottage, inside and out. Very comfy and cozy. Lots of wood accents which really made us feel like we were somewhere special. Being there just gave us a good feeling. The whole place has a peaceful vibe. Plenty of room to spread out. The back deck was a favorite. Shaded. Relaxing. Watching the birds eat at the feeder. Great for morning coffee. Kitchen is fully loaded for any kind of cooking or baking. Close to Frankfort's downtown. We would stay again. One of our favorite vacations.
This is a super cute home with two separate living areas separated by a common floor. There is a nice hot tub and two awesome outdoor/deck spaces. The house has wi-if, cable, and the owners also provide towels and linens. They also have bikes, kayaks, etc for guest use. There's also a washer/dryer...nice to have! We would definitely rent this place again.
Notes - the stovetop was a pain to light and the oven routinely set off the very sensitive fire alarm, even though nothing was burning.
The property/house also have a ton of stairs and steep walkways. This is not a house for people with disabilities, though the owners do offer baby gates, which we used to keep small children from escaping from the deck spaces.
There is a lot of really amazing art and knick-knacks around, much of which we had to hide to protect from curious kids.
There is no private beach access - public beach access is a long walk or short drive away. However - there's a pretty view from the deck and lots of walking trails throughout the property.
Overall - beautiful and well maintained. Very lovely.
My family and I could not be more satisfied with our stay. Words and pictures cannot possibly express the beauty of this property. From the one-of-a-kind craftsmanship to the beautifully decorated gardens, it does not get any more gorgeous than this. Everywhere you turn you will discover carefully chosen artwork that make this home feel like a museum. Relaxing in the hot tub in the evenings with nature all around you warrants a sixth star!
The location was excellent. About 1 hour drive to Traverse City. The town of Frankfort was fun and charming. Crystal Lake is absolutely breathtaking.
The owners were friendly and responsive. They made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable during our stay.
I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did.
This home truly lives up to the reviews and photos provided. The craftsmanship, artwork, and gardens surrounding this home are going to keep you entranced throughout your entire stay. The thoughtful touches such as the fabulously scented hand soaps (a different one in each bathroom!), fluffy beach towels, and family-oriented books/games/movies were really nice. The lake was absolutely gorgeous, and is appropriately named Crystal. Great fishing, kayaking, and paddle boarding. We truly appreciated the owners' dedication to making our trip great, especially when the unexpected happened: Richard was very helpful in recommending a local mechanic to take care of a car repair. Lake views from the house aren't really possible, but you'll feel like you're in a tree house and the peace and privacy of being up the hill is worth it!
