Amazing home with amazing views of Shasta

  • 5 of 5

This home has it all! Beautiful log cabin style, games, movies galore, great kitchen and dining options and pet friendly! We had a great time for our family reunion with a mixture of people ranging from 6 months to 75 years old. Wonderful spot close to so many things including shasta city, sisikyou lake, and McCloud Falls. Its a perfect place to get away and enjoy this gorgeous part of N. California!

beautiful spot

  • 4 of 5

I have to say that this home and location are magnificent, but I wouldn't stay here again. I'll give a brief summary. The home is as shown in the photos, beautiful, large with a gorgeous backdrop. However, the caretaker lives essentially a few feet from the main home which might be mentioned in previous reviews but I was not aware of it. This makes it awkward for privacy purposes, even though she didn't interrupt our time there.

My family and I go to Shasta at least once a year to gather (10-15 people). We chose this home to be the main gathering area and some of the other members stayed at hotels but came to the house for dinners etc. Upon arriving, the caretaker/owner of the home made it clear that we were only to have 10 people staying there, which we did (she also made reference to us only asking to have one dog, which is not true, I have emails to confirm I requested to have two). But at some point she actually counted 15 people and even after I explained they were only there visiting and I could prove they had other lodging, she still said that was not okay and had she known that we were going to have visitors, she would have refused our reservation! As long as you know these facts, and don't mind, it's still a great home in a great location. Which is why I still gave 4 stars in this review.

Owner's Response: When this guest was checking out I counted there were 15+ people in her group - I advised her that had I know this up front I would not have accepted her reservation. My maximum occupancy is 10 (I make this very clear on all advertising and when guests make a reservation) - this applies at all times, not just at certain times. In order to operate a vacation rental I'm required to get a permit from the county - they stipulate what the maximum occupancy is to be - violating the occupancy limit puts my permit at risk.

Amazing home!

  • 5 of 5

What an amazing home! My family and I spent 3 nights there and had the greatest time. There is a lot of space for large families so there is no feeling of being crowded. Also the view of Mt. Shasta from the back deck and from the balcony in the top room is gorgeous! Everything from the living room, pool table, theatre room, bathrooms, sauna and even the comfortable beds was way beyond our expectations. I have to admit I was a bit concerned at first about the owner living literally right next door and not allowing us enough privacy, but Suzi was great. She met us at the door to give us the keys and show us through the house and to offer assistance if we needed any, but other than that she left us to enjoy our stay and was not at all intrusive. I was afraid that our group might be too loud with the sounds of our kids playing and crying at times, and all us adults laughing and talking late into the night, and playing music or watching movies on the surround sound, I thought because of the close proximity between Suzi's house and the lodge that she might come asking us to quiet down. But that was not the case at all and I am so happy that we were able to spend a great 3 nights there and that we were able to create such wonderful memories with my family. We will definitely be coming back next year! Thank you Suzi!

Gliden House

  • 5 of 5

My three daughters, five grand daughters and sister stayed at the Gliden House (Log Cabin) for four nights in June. We found the owner, Suzi, to be very accommodating and available for any necessary need. I'm not quite sure how to say it but the "log cabin" far exceeded our expectations. The four master suites were completely comfortable, showers great, beds cozy and the insuite bathrooms fabulous. The small deck off the upstairs bedroom was a great place for quiet retreat. Our group of 10 were all able to sit down for meals in the dining room with the most magnificent view of Mt. Shasta as a plus. I loved the newer appliances as well. Quiet dishwasher, wonderful stove and great barbecue on the deck made meal making so easy. We were all able to sit on the deck in the evenings while we enjoyed the sunset on Mt. Shasta in the distance. The kids loved the pool table in the living room and the little kids loved having the downstairs TV/bar room for their own play area. The house is close to Lake Siskiyou, which the kids loved. The boat rental there was perfect. We were able to go to the Shasta Cavern, breathtaking experience. Also the Hedge Falls with the walk-under waterfall, in Dunsmiur, was a perfect little escape. There is so much to do in the area and with this breathtaking residence to come home to, perfection! Without a doubt, we will definitely be coming back to this amazing home in the future!

Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

Our second year staying at the Lodge for a quilting retreat was as awesome as the first. Just a lovely location, comfortable and clean. Suzi makes sure you have everything you need. We have so much fun, and it is a perfect home for a large group as there is plenty of space to get away as well as space to be together as a group. We have already booked for next year.
