West Brewster House Rental Photos and Description

Authentic Cape Cod Saltbox with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, and detached cottage for 2

The Elisha Howland Saltbox provides your opportunity to experience the unmatched essence of a true 'Olde Cape Cod' home. We offer a restored antique Saltbox with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a separate rental opportunity on the property for two more guests in the detached cottage, though this is only available to guests in the main house, for an additional fee. (see below)

Our 1824 home is located in one of the most historic areas of Brewster. Small on size but big on charm, you will see many of the original features, such as the 'ladder' stairs, the old floorboards, the wavy glass windows carefully preserved, and a working replica of the original fireplace. Lovingly brought back to life, this restored antique home truly is a home away from home, complemented with all the modern comforts - fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher, basement washer and dryer, cable TV, DVD player, and wifi. We are open year round and welcome you for a visit, whether it's for a weekend, a week, a month or more. We welcome weekend guests during the winter, spring, and fall, and occasionally can accommodate stays of less than one week during the summer.

Located in a quiet residential area of the Sea Captain's town of Brewster, our home has a spacious yard featuring two flower gardens and a shade garden with a stone patio and sitting area. Adjacent to the patio is a water feature with a gurgling stream, making a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a cup of morning coffee or perhaps a glass of wine at the end of the day.

The detached cottage is a separate rental, which may be rented for additional charge by the week or for a shorter period, with a two night minimum stay. We are delighted to offer this space to our guests who rent the main house, to be used by families who would like to bring a grandparent or two, or by couples who enjoy vacationing together, but also want to respect each other's space. The cottage offers a queen bed, small sitting area with microwave, dorm-style refrigerator, TV, and a full bathroom with shower. There is a screened porch with a patio table for two. The weekly cottage rate is half the rate for the main house. Please note that the cottage is not available as a separate and primary rental.

About Jane

Jane is a Brewster native, whose family heritage dates back to the earliest Pilgrim days. Her ancestors were among the first Pilgrims to settle in Brewster. She knows the Cape and New England well, and is always delighted to help with your trip planning.

Jane purchased this house in 2002

Why Jane chose Brewster

We were thrilled when we were offered this property by the previous owner's family. It was their family's treasured Cape Escape for the past 50 or so years. Originally, the home was owned by the same family from the time it was built to approximately the 1930s.

What makes this house unique

Our home provides a rare glimpse into a simpler life in Brewster almost 200 years ago - but without the hardships that were endured in the olden days.

Charming cottage - Great stay

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our short stay in this charming saltbox cottage. It was very spacious for a cottage and provided all of the amenities we needed. We were on Cape Cod at a time when some restaurants were not regularly open, so it was nice to have a functional kitchen. The location was great for walkers. There were lots of places we could walk to from the cottage. And the property itself was lovely. The landscaping was beautiful and thoughtfully cared for. Finally, all correspondence with Jane was timely and accurate and she was very helpful and friendly when we arrived. This would be my first choice for another stay on Cape Cod.

A Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

The house was a wonderful base for a great relaxing stay. Breakfasts in the backyard (Which was in bloom) or overlooking the front garden were vacations in themselves. The historic building has a great story, you can tell it was restored with a lot of love. The ladder stairs, and the upper rooms, are amazing. The kitchen is neutrally modern to make cooking a breeze. Jane was a wonderful hostess and the stay was perfect. We fell in love with Brewster a few years ago but it got better this year when we stayed here. We look forward to coming back next year!

The only way to stay at the cape!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I were immediately impressed with the charm, cleanliness and Jane's hospitality. He has never been to the cape before so I am glad he got to experience it at the cottage and got a real feel for life in the cape! Even though we had a rainy Memorial Day weekend it was nice to be able to go to the cottage and still feel like we were on vacation and not stuck in a hotel room. I had many questions for Jane before the stay and she always responded promptly and thoroughly. Very pleased with the whole experience!

Owner's Response: Alicia and her fiance were terrific guests, and I am so glad their weekend was a good one in spite of the weather. I am always delighted to answer questions... nobody likes surprises when it comes to vacations, and having answers to questions just makes vacation that much more relaxing.

Charming, comfortable perfectly located!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed in this property for two nights. Beautifully renovated, maintaining vintage details and charm but at the same time providing the comforts of modern life. The attractively landscaped gardens were a joy. We hope to be staying here again in the future. Sorry that we didn't meet Jane but everything was perfectly organised. Many thanks!
