About Susan

My husband's family built a cottage (with Sand Lake access) down the street in 1978. When his parents decided to sell the property we decided to purchase our property on Sand Lake. It is only 3 hours from where we live so we travel there often to 'get out of the city.'

Susan purchased this cabin in 2004

Why Susan chose Northern Michigan

The cottage is only 10 miles from East Tawas and Lake Huron. There is a bike/rollerblade/walking path right outside the front door which will take you around all 7 lakes in the area. There is also a playground right around the corner and plenty of other children to play with in the area. We are located about 15 minutes from East Tawas where there is plenty of shopping, a long pier for fishing, beaches on Lake Huron, etc. We are also about 30 minutes either way from Omer & Oscoda where there are canoe rentals.

What makes this cabin unique

Beautifully renovated, open concept cottage on beautiful private sandy beach/lakefront on (all sports) Sand Lake. Our cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and dining area that is open to the living room. Enjoy the relaxation on the patio or enjoy the private beach. The water is so clear and sandy with a slow gradual slope and you can even see the snails making trails in the water! There is also a dock for swimming when weather permits. There is also a shared fire pit on the beach. Take a short walk to Huron National Forest State Park, playground and local stores for ice cream, pizza, movie rentals and other necessities.

Relaxing

  • 3 of 5

A very nice location with a sandy beach, beautiful lake, convienent location to party store across the street and friendly neighbors. Also, a quick trip to Tawas to enjoy Lake Huron, the lighthouse, several playgrounds for kids, shopping and dining options. There is also a nice playground within walking distance of the unit. Our children and our dogs loved playing on the beach and in the water.

A few things that were slightly disappointing included the hot water in the shower would sporadically change from scalding hot to ice cold and back and forth during our showers with no change in position in regards to the handle. This meant that we would get hot water for approximately three minutes, then cold for a couple, before switching back to warm. Also, no bath towels were provided dispite the fact that the listing said that linens were provided and their was also a note inside the house to leave used towels in the shower at the end of our stay. We had to use our beach towels for a couple days. Luckily, my husband and I drove separately and he was able to bring bath towels and fresh beach towels for the week and spared a disaster or a unexpected trip to buy towels. We also found that all the light bulbs in the lamps in both the living room and bedroom were all burned out. One of the patio lights on the rear of the house was also burned out. A sign asked us to rinse our feet off in a bucket before entering the rear of the unit, however, there was no bucket provided to do so. The flooring in kitchen and living room areas of unit could definitely use an upgrade.

We would consider staying again even after some of the hiccups we encountered.

Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Cute cottage within steps from the beach. My husband and I enjoyed a week on Sand lake with our (4 legged) kids. We went hiking, kayaking, golfing, swimming, shopping, and relaxed by the bon fire. We cooked on the bbq every night or walked over to the bar and grill just down the street. The area was quiet and peaceful and the locals were so very friendly. The party store owners (across the street) were amazing and they make a delicious pizza too! If you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the city this cottage is perfect! If you cannot survive without internet this area is not for you. The national forest apparently hasn't upgraded their Wi-Fi service. Thank you for sharing your cottage with us.

As advertised

  • 4 of 5

This is a nice cottage, perfect for the price and size. It is remote and very quiet, but we went into tawas city to get groceries, the lake huron beach, a breakfast place (white tail?) and some miniature golf. we also chartered a fishing boat to get some walleye. the store across the street was great and friendly. we bought wood from the store and had a couple fires. the lake was nice and I walked out at least 100ft and was still not over my head. kids can swim, play and have fun with ducks....thanks susan.

Great getaway

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for 4 days. The cabin was cute and clean. Perfect size for our family of 4. We enjoyed the lake and the ability to take our ORV out on the trails. The lake was clean, yet still a little chilly. No problems with hot water or water pressure. Had a great vacation and plan on staying again sometime.

Nice cottage and lake!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great experience staying there over the 4th of July weekend. The cottage is well kept and has a great beach. Also it's conveniently located right across the street from the party store and tavern. The owners were very accommodating and helpful as well.

Sand Lake Cottage

We enjoyed our stay

at the cottage and the view of the lake and ducklings going by. Everything was there for us and we needed to only buy food. I would recommend this cottage for 2-4 people or small families.
