We stayed in the Wailele Kai in September 2013 during our vacation to the Big Island and we fell absolutely in love with the house and the view of the ocean from the house and lanai. Shortly thereafter, we offered to buy the Wailele Kai (the previous name for the home). After reaching an agreement with the prior owners and buying the property we renamed her Paradise Pali Kai. We are excited to be able to share our home in PARADISE with other vacationers. Terry Schoneberg, Sunrise Properties, is the property manager and having lived in the Hilo area for over 40 years can fully assist you, as he did us, in making this a trip of a lifetime.

Why The Big Island: We have visited Hawaii many times. Of all the islands, the Big Island is our favorite. The Big Island is less commercialized, and there is a greater variety of things to do and see. To name a few, Volcano National Park is a must see, the Japanese gardens, the banyan trees on Banyan Drive, jungle gardens and amazing waterfalls, pele’s lava; black, white, and green sand beaches and; at times lava flowing into the ocean near Kalapana.
Why the Hilo area: While we like the Kailua Kona area on the west side, we enjoy the lushness and beauty of the eastern side more. The eastern side is a tropical beauty and the ocean is majestic. Paradise Pali Kai is ocean front in a quiet residential neighborhood in Keaau, about 20 minutes outside Hilo. Thanks to the excellent road system, travel to the western, southern, and northern ends of the island is an easy drive from Keaau.
The Unique Benefits of this House: First, the house and views are simply stunning. The magic of the location is how close the house and lanai are to the ocean and the waves. The waves break directly on the lava cliffs IN THE BACKYARD. It is dramatic to view from the lanai, “great room”, and master bedroom, all of which are on the second floor facing the ocean. Every room upstairs and downstairs, has a view of the ocean.
The Finest quality luxury in every corner of our home. In the front of the house, in a beautifully landscaped and protected private courtyard, is a gorgeous lagoon pool with waterfalls, lanai and covered patio. While the tropics are beautiful, it can at times be unbearably hot and humid, particularly to those accustomed to a cooler or drier environment or central air conditioning. To eliminate this problem, the home has an air-conditioning system that cools, filters and dehumidifies the air. It is a zoned system and the temperature of each bedroom and the “great room” can be individually controlled. Most vacation homes in Hawaii do not have air conditioning, but this vacation home defines luxury. In addition, there are fans throughout the house for ambiance and use on cooler days. Paradise Pali Kai is true luxury. Mahalo
This is truly a luxurious home with all the amenities as advertised. Furnishings are elegant and comfortable, tastefully decorated. The lanais are oceanfront, affording spectacular views for both sunrise and moonrise over the ocean. We BBQ'd dinner and reclined on the pool lounge chairs for some late night stargazing. Simply stunning! We were fortunate to have great weather during our stay so we could fully enjoy the island. Made the short trip up to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and saw active lava bubbling and exploding in the caldera the afternoon we were there. It was amazing!! This is not a property for children, with stairs and cliffs...but perfect for adults who wish to relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii from a prime oceanfront location. I highly recommend Paradise Pali Kai...you will NOT be disappointed!!
We loved this place, wish we could have stayed longer. Furnished very well! Fantastic views! Pool is wonderful! Could just enjoy being here & not see any of the island! Recommend this place to anyone, well worth money & the trip! Many things to see around the area.
Loved this stay!
This home was beautiful- everything you could ask for and more. We ate most of our meals here so we could just relax and enjoy the beauty. All the special touches were much appreciated. It was really convenient to drive to the waterfalls and volcano national park. Thanks again for sharing your home with us.
We enjoyed our week long stay at this lovely house. We came with another couple and were so impressed with the spacious layout of the house, with it's tasteful decor, and amenities. The house has a spectacular view of the Pacific and it has lots of big picture windows to view the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets through, or even better, you can sit out on one of the several lanais and take in the beauty while enjoying the warm trade wind breezes. During our stay we saw Whales and groups of Spinner Dolphins feeding and cavorting not far off shore from the back of the house. A real treat!
The kitchen is very well appointed although we only used the kitchen for breakfasts and one dinner during our stay.
The swimming pool is quite lovely and inviting but not heated. Even on a warm day in February, it was too cold for me to fully emerge myself in it for any length of time without a wet suit. I imagine that in the summer the water is much warmer and easier to enjoy.
The only difficulty that we encountered has to do with the design of the laundry alcove and the doors that hide the washer and dryer on the 1st level of the house. We discovered a large build up of black mold around the rubber gasket of the front loading washer and an accompanying mildew odor. We used up a whole container of Clorox wipes trying to clean the gasket and diminish the odor. The problem lies in not being able to leave the washer door open and the laundry alcove doors open long enough to allow air to circulate and dry out the inside of the washer. If one leaves the laundry alcove doors open enough to allow for good air circulation to the inside of the washer, then it blocks the hallway. This side of the Island of Hawaii being a place of abundant moisture, and where things like to grow, including mold and mildew, I fear that that lovely front loading washer will have a much shorter life expectancy than anticipated due to not being properly aired and dried out between use.
All this being said, we had a wonderful and relaxing stay at this beautiful property.
This was our 2nd stay in this wonderful house. My wife and I love everything about this property. I read a review about this being described as Majestic. How true!
This is our third visit to the Big Island. This property exceeded our expectations. It looks great in the photos but it is even better in real life. This is one of the few times on vacation where the place was so nice that we were enticed to spend more time just relaxing in the rental. The home is outfitted so amazingly well. It even had Wusthof knives in the kitchen.
The lanais are amazing. The upper one overlooking the ocean is just incredibly conducive to completely relaxing. Having air conditioning is very much appreciated. Everything is upgraded on this property. I can't speak highly enough about it.
