We are Mainers, growing up in this great state, Susan graduating from U Maine Farmington, David going out of state (Navy Scholarship to Miami University in Ohio), spending 42 years "away" working, and retiring back to Maine.
Why David W. Lawrence chose Newcastle
Saltwater front location, the amazing 44 foot enclosed porch overlooking the water, easy access to everything, and ability to transform it into a classic comfy cottage....

A lovely spot for two good friends to spend a few days quilting, everything was spotless and the home was well-equipped and well-furnished. We were in the midst of a bit of a heat wave, but the air conditioning kept up comfortable. This is a great spot for a retreat and yet close to shops, restaurants, and best of all, the Alewive's Quilt Shop!!
The cottage is as charming as the listing and photos show - perhaps even more so in real life. We loved our time there and enjoyed kayaking in the bay, spending time on the dock and sitting in the porch/sunroom taking in the views.
Enjoyable, relaxing and close to everything.
I'm Ready to Go Back!!!
This was our first trip to the Newcastle/Damariscotta region of Maine and it won't be our last. We loved being away from the summer crowds in Camden, Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor, and yet, this area is the a great place to make your home base while you explore those other areas. There is a picturesque little harbor, wonderful shops and a few good restaurants right in town. David's property is wonderful - we could have lived the entire week on the sunporch and been happy. Windows open, breeze blowing and quiet. Just perfect for us. In addition, David is the perfect host. You can't go wrong with this lovely little house and location unless you need lots of noise and crowds.
We feel our area of Mid-Coast Maine is special and are thrilled when others “discover” it too!
This plus praise for Beckoning Bay Cottage is a much appreciated review!!!
9th year and it just keeps getting better! Love the new gas fireplace!
Well after returning for nine years this family can no longer be called "guests". They are like our Family! Love it when their children refer to the Cottage as "their cottage"!
So peaceful away from city life a much needed vacation.
Damariscotta is the gateway to the historic Bristol peninsula with its famed Pemaquid Lighthouse and rocky ledges (and on the US Mint's Maine quarter!) quaint fishing villages, and captivating scenes for your easel and canvas or camera. US Route 1 downeast or upwest will reveal additional Maine charm and great memories.
