We Loved it Here

  • 5 of 5

We could not have been happier with this home. The pristine grounds, the view from every window, the fabulous porch, and the warm hospitality of the owners made this a wonderful vacation for us. The house was very well maintained, in a great location, and the attential to detail was right on. The artfully placed antiques, the collection of books on the area, binoculars for creature watching (we took them on a whale watch), charcoal grill, fire pit, kayak, etc... The amenities were all there for us. We had perfect summer weather every day, and even got a full September moon on our last night.

Good Morning Sunrise!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our wonderful vacation at Beckoning Bay. After adjusting our body clocks we began waking up at dawn to spectacular sunrises each morning. Enjoyed coffee and breakfast on the expansive porch overlooking the Great Salt Bay.

This is a lovely home tastefully appointed and very welcoming. Plenty of room to relax and enjoy vacation. Just minutes from Damariscotta restaurants and shops. Conveniently located to travel around the mid coast. We love exploring this beautiful area and the location is perfect for fun filled day trips. Could not ask for a more gracious and attentive host. David is thoughtful, informative and kind. We were fortunate to vacation here and look forward to returning.

Appropriately Named....

  • 5 of 5

Pictures represent the house well, but the home not at all. They can't convey the quiet of the property, the joy you feel when you awake overlooking the Salt Bay, or the contentment that awaits after returning from a day of sightseeing.

When we walked in the door I thought - this is going to be a great week....and I was right! Owner has thought of everything needed to make your stay pleasantly comfortable. Lawn is loaded with flowering bushes, of which I cut some and created small inside arrangements. There is a dock AND a fire ring. The yard is on a slight hill, but not at all difficult. (and I am presently handicapped). But the view is great from the house too - in all weather! Necessities are here; no need to rush off to Hannafords after a long travel day. But when you are ready, it is a short drive away, along with a chain drug store, a Dollar Tree, a shop selling Artisan Bread, a fresh produce stand, and others I just never made it into.

Downtown is a charming mix of stores, cafes and restaurants. This is the hometown of Reny's, a Maine Classic. Pemaquid and its' beautiful lighthouse are a short 15minutes away, and my favorite lobster pound (Muscungous) is only a few minutes farther. Close to Rte 1, you are perfectly situated to explore the best of the Maine Coast.

The lay-out of the house is great - everything on 1 level, both baths are in the hall, and the kitchen is open - allowing you to visit friends or enjoy the view. All are spotless. Furniture is "cozy, comfortable, coastal cottage" with some beautiful antiques mixed in - all in a restful palette of blue and yellow, with cranberry accents. If you need extra sleeping arrangements, the porch and sunroom can be used, leaving the living room, kitchen, and baths for the earliest risers. There is a modest, nicely furnished deck, single car garage and charcoal grill. No plastic chairs, threadbare sheets, or postage sized towels here. Imagine that you had a generous, wealthy Aunt who lived in Maine. This would be her home.

During the years, we have rented 30+ homes, all over the country. None have exceeded our expectations as has Beckoning Bay. It is truly a vacation haven, with lovely owners who genuinely want you to love the home, and the area, as much as they do.

The ONLY thing I would love to see is a gas log insert in the living room. Of course, then I might never leave, which would cause problems for everyone!

Owner's Response: Wow, how does one respond adequately to a review like this? It's a compliment to be the "Maine Uncle and Aunt" (surely not wealthy though!) of our guests, and I am pleased to report a gas fireplace insert is in the capital improvement plan for 2016!

A great getaway

  • 5 of 5

We spent several night at Beckoning Bay and really enjoyed it all. Close to town and coast, with the lake and fire pit on location to kick back and enjoy some quiet and family time. David Lawrence was so accommodating and the cottage was nicely furnished. Terrific flow with a fantastic sunroom and overall open feel. I hope we get back again soon.

Perfect Location!

  • 5 of 5

Our 3 weeks here were relaxing and wonderful. We hiked, kayaked, and enjoyed the deck mornings and evenings. The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens were fabulous! We love vacationing in Maine and found Beckoning Bay and this area to be particularly enjoyable, and David is a wonderful host!

Absolute Perfection

  • 5 of 5

I've been lucky enough to travel to many places, and Beckoning Bay tops the list for relaxation, fun, and beauty. For travelers looking for romance, the master opens to that amazing sunroom, letting you have a lovely view each morning (we personally chose to open the blinds at night, so the first thing we would see would be the sun at the water). For travelers with young children, this is ideal: our 5 yr old twins adored the large yard, s'mores in the fire pit, taking out the canoe, and watching snails on the shore. As a family we appreciated the opportunity to make a very short drive to local fishmongers for fresh lobster (easily prepared at the house, and enjoyed together with a view), as well as shops, restaurants, and entertainment. The laundry room right off the master was an added bonus (and is a nice spot for a pack 'n play, should babies be in your planning!). The surrounding areas provide PLENTY to do. When we left, every member of the family wished we could stay. Beckoning Bay is the kind of place that, after your first night, you are already planning to come back. David is a remarkable host. By hour three, we had noticed if there was a thing we had forgotten, it was already in the house, ready for our use. From start to finish, the perfect location.

Owner's Response: Always pleased (and appreciative) when Beckoning Bay Cottage receives an enthusiastic review. Meeting (even exceeding) expectations is always our goal...Maine of course, is the largest contributor to a great vacation, but we want the Cottage to do its part too!
