About Elizabeth Barrett

I used to rent a house at Lake Erie once or twice a year. It is such a fun, relaxing getaway where I had so many things to do everyday rain or shine. I would spend hours and hours trying to find a place to stay. Everything goes so quickly !

When I saw that this AMAZING house was on the market, I knew 'THIS IS MY CHANCE'. I poured my heart and soul into remodeling and decorating this house. I tried to anticipate my guests every need. I love this house. Read my Reviews my Guests Love Staying Here. I hope that you will love staying here too.

Elizabeth Barrett purchased this house in 2009

Why Elizabeth Barrett chose Ohio

First I Feel In Love with Charming Huron Ohio. A Sleepy Little Town on the Lake. I Love the Relaxed Pace of the Locals, the Church Bells I Hear Every Hour When I am in The Yard. It's Idyllic. Then I Feel In Love With This Craftsman Style House. Open and Sunny with Windows Everywhere.... It's Solid Plaster Walls, Wood Floors...The Cute Built ins and Glass Door Knobs... It Was Irresistible.

What makes this house unique

What I Hear the Most From My Guests is How The House Looks Just Like The Pictures.. That And How They Instantly Felt Right at Home. When I Hear Them Tell Me The House Gives Them That Warm Feeling, I Know That I Have Done My Job :)

Family Time

  • 3 of 5

We had a great time. The rental house was just right. It was not to fancy ,but very accommodating . The park across the street was a lifesaver. The kids could hang out there in between family events. It was a very nice location . Having it closer to the beach area would of been nicer, but it worked really fine. The instructions at the house were very laid out and easy to follow. I would recommend this house to anyone . Elizabeth was very easy to get ahold of as well as her cleaning crew.

Owner's Response: I appreciate Michaels positive words about the actual house itself. The 3 stars doesn't seem to match his words about the house rather than match whether this was a good fit for him and his group. Michael was definitely out of his element on this first attempt at renting someones private home and struggled with the logistic of that. From not reading the info email, not vacating the house on time, nor following the check out instructions causing a second housekeeper to have to be brought in last minute to get the house ready in time for the next guest. If a person wants "fancy" waterfront property with on site concierge, that is a fine thing to want and they should rent just that . A 3 star rating because they chose a homey well maintained house where they were expected to take the initiate to read and follow the house rules was an inappropriate rating based on this review. fortunately there are a great many reviews to read over the years to give the renter an accurate picture of what to expect during their stay

Trip to Cedar Point and surrounding area

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time at Elizabeth's house. It had all the conveniences of home. It was clean, well supplied of towels, kitchen items, and info of the area. Elizabeth was super to work with and was just a call or text away if we had questions. If anyone is ever in need of car repair while in the area, Joe's Auto and Kip, the mechanic, helped us out big time and were very honest. Great place to stay to make special family memories!

Cozy family home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here on a weekend with our family and the house was well suited for the little ones. There was a crib and high chair and baby gates. There is a living room and a lower level family room which was great for corralling little ones (but low ceilings in part) This was a much more comfortable and affordable option for our family (Our 3 kids, their spouses and 3 grandkids) than a hotel. We could enjoy our time together, enjoy the little ones and still go to the waterpark. And we had the option of being able to cook.

Elizabeth was very attentive and helpful. The home is older and nicely decorated and the town of Huron is very cute. This house is only 6 miles from the waterparks.

Cute, comfortable, in town house--worked for our family of 11

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice weekend in Huron. The house was a very cute older home with many updates. We found it very comfortable and functional -- we did all of our cooking there and enjoyed the large dining table downstairs which fit all 11 of us (4 kids).

We got together to celebrate my dad's 70th birthday and this was a central location for us coming from NY, DC, SC, and MI. We spent most of the time at the house hanging out, but did enjoy an afternoon stroll down to the waterfront and found a great little coffee shop.

Some of the concerns. The owner was very unresponsive to email. I received an initial confirmation email and then one 2 days before departing with access information -- I was a little panicked when three days before our arrival date, she had not responded to a any of my emails. I could have called the phone number, but felt we should have been able to conduct all interaction via email. This was my biggest complaint.

Additionally, there was another reference in one of the reviews to the train three blocks away. It is loud and does come nearly every hour. It didn't bother me personally at all, but it did bother some people in our family. Additionally, b/c it was fall, we didn't have many windows open -- if you are visiting in the summer and plan to have windows open -- you will hear the train -- through the night too.

Overall, we would probably rent this house again -- the price was right, it was very kid friendly, comfortable and a good fit for a family-centered relaxed weekend away.

Great place to stay if you are a fan of trains, check google maps to see close proximity to tracks

  • 1 of 5

We had a suite booked at a Hotel at Cedar Point but thought it may be a little cramped after adding a few of our kids friends. Well my wife answered a reduced rate ad on Facebook for this house and we thought because of all the glowing reviews we would take a chance. I dropped the family off at the park drove to Westlake for a business meeting and then back to drop off luggage at 3:15pm. I met the housekeeper who was very polite and courteous, dropped off our things and then drove back to the park. We did not arrive back at the house until around 11 pm. Just as we got settled in we heard the unmistakable sound of a train, which was the first of many to rumble by during the night. In the early hours of the morning the trains peaked at four per hour, yes I was awake most of the night due to the train horns blowing at a little over 500 feet from the house. We rose early and ate breakfast to the tune of several more trains that rumbled by before heading to the park. After another long day at the park we started on the short drive back to the house where my wife suggested we pack everything up and just make our way the 2.5 hours back to our house in central Ohio. For safety reasons, because we were both so tired, we decided to stay the final night at the house. My wife even slept on the couch with the TV on in hopes of drowning out the train noises, but to no avail. Well after another sleep deprived night we were up very early and vacated the premises to the ringing sounds of train horns. I recorded a couple of the trains rolling by from within the house and sent one of them to the homeowner to prove how loud the horns were. If it were not for the close train tracks the house would have at least scored 4 stars.

The house is otherwise furnished fairly well and the basement is finished. However there is a portion of the basement that has a very low ceiling. I am 5'10" and had to duck or the ceiling edge would have caught me about mid forehead. We didn't utilize it and only went down there to place our bed linens and towels in the laundry before leaving. The TV in the main level is new with Dish reception and that is the only one we used. We only used the house for sleeping arrangements and a quick bite for breakfast before heading to the park or departing for home. Owner did not answer any text, emails or calls during/after our stay. Didn't expect any money back, just wanted to discuss. Reviews must be from family! Lesson learned.

Owner's Response: HI Kim and David, Sorry to hear that the sounds of the trains in the background disturbed your sleep. Funny that out out literally thousands of guests over the last 8 years , that you were the first guests to ever even mention it. I don't recall getting any texts from you during your stay, regardless, I do not have any control over the train schedule that ran that night. I was happy to hear that you enjoyed the house and how well appointed and cared for it was. Your stay was half price, I am sorry to hear that a great house that you appreciated at half price wasn't enough to make your happy
