Come visit one of the best Lake Michigan beaches you'll ever want to see. Walk to the beach from our house. It's right up the lane. Open your windows when you go to bed and be lulled to sleep by the gentle rolling of the waves. There's nothing like sitting in the 6 person hot tub and gazing up at the azure sky and seeing a million stars. The 5200 sq ft house leaves so much to privacy, you can be with the crowd in the family room and on the back decks or venture off into the living room for some privacy. With three 'living' areas there is room for everyone.
Sorry, no pets allowed.
I rented this house for my family (five adult siblings with spouses and kids) and could not have been happier with the accommodations. The layout is spacious and affords plenty of room for large families or groups. There is ample driveway parking (which is a huge plus). The house is well-maintained and offers so many "extras" that we never once bemoaned the fact that we forgot something. The owner has thought of nearly everything to make your stay enjoyable.
The property itself is fairly private and located in a quiet area. Lakeshore Drive offers a great venue for long walks (in either direction). The yard, decks, porch, and sunroom offer plenty of seating/eating space. The kitchen never feels crowded (even with kids under foot). There are plenty of comfy chairs in quiet places if you wish to read in solitude. The game room is a great diversion for the kids after a day at the beach (which is an easy 5-10 minute walk, even for the little ones). The adults loved the Wii (maybe more than the kids). Once the kids are asleep, the hot tub is a heavenly resting place.
Downtown Saugatuck and Douglas are minutes away. I rode my bike to breakfast nearly every morning (try Ida Red's--great food). Everyday People Cafe is nice for dinner. My family did a dune ride which was loads of fun. Kayaking is also easily accessible.
As my sister-in-law commented when we left, "there is not a negative associated with this house." Needless to say, we are returning in 2010.
We rented this home for ourselves, our children and grandchildren. There were 15 of us, but the house was so spacious we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy many different activities simultaneously. The kids loved the game room and the playscape outside. Each room is beautiful and mattresses on the beds were very comfortable. Everything about this house is first rate and the pictures on the site don't even do it justice. The short walk to the beach was so convenient. We had a great time even though it rained one day. Owner responded to every communication quickly and completely....a pleasure to work with. We scored a precious family vacation memory in an amazing environment.
The owner was helpful from my first contact, which was over a year before our booking date. My family of 11 members from 4 to 71 years old came from England, Colorado, Illinois and Michigan. All age levels loved what was available in the house. NOTHING was missing. The owner has thought of everything, including little night lights for our use in bathrooms, bathrooms or hallways. Several times we just wanted to be in the house and enjoy its coziness, although the house rambles on with many rooms that are all functional. We all loved the neighbor feel and the ability to walk or ride rented bikes to all near by places. In short, we LOVED the house and the very helpful owner.
Having never rented from the internet before, I was more than a little nervous as to what we'd find. Well much to our great pleasure, this house was everything we hoped it would be and more. It is spacious, clean, well supplied with everything you could want, and decorated beautifully so it feels like a home. The layout is spread out so there is plenty of room for privacy at times. The outside area is perfect and the screened in eating area got lots of use. The location is quiet, yet near to activities in the area. Our family of 18 spent a wonderful reunion week with several evenings spent reminiscing around the firepit. Margaret was a pleasure to work with and was very honest in her description of the house. In one word . . AWESOME.
My family, 23 of us in all, recently spent summer family vacation here and loved our stay! The owner was just great to work with, and it's obvious this is a well-cared for home.
The amount of space was incredible! There are multiple rooms for gathering - we enjoyed morning coffee and doing puzzles in the newly renovated sun room, hanging out in the kitchen and adjoining open family room and eating dinners on the back porches. We spent one rainy day playing games in the game room and watching movies borrowed from the movie collection. The two-year old in our group couldn't get enough wagon rides down Lakeshore Drive or time on the back play set. We even had a family photo taken by a local photographer in the back yard, which provided a great location for the photo given the privacy of the house.
The kitchen had everything you could want - well stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc. And, plenty of room for multiple cooks in the kitchen!
I would highly recommend this house due to its proximity to beach and town - Oval Beach and downtown Saugatuck (and chain ferry) are just minutes away! We also walked into downtown Douglas to enjoy the great shops. In addition to location, I would recommend this house because it has SO much to offer its guests! We had such a great vacation, took away a lot of great memories and would come back here again in a heartbeat!!
The listing of this house does not do it complete justice. It has everything listed & then some. All you need is your own personal items & food. Everything else is stocked in the house. We had a fabulous family vacation. The house is so clean & well maintained. The owner is a joy to work with. No complaints there!
One of the biggest assets is the large, spacious driveway. As you know all lake property parking is usually tight. No problem here. We had several cars & all fit nicely in the driveway. The house seems very private because of the foliage & it is quiet. The yard was great for hanging around the fire pit & kids playing on the new play set(which they loved)Beach is walking distance & lake Michigan is beautiful. The garage has beach chairs & play toys for your use. The extra fridge in there was great for all the extra drinks.
We are a family of 26 & we never felt cramped. Enough bathrooms. You could always find an empty one. The bedrooms are very well spaced throughout the house & comfortable beds. If weather permits to open the windows you can hear lake Michigan waves at night putting you to sleep. So relaxing!
The dining area is large enough to seat a large group. If there is overflow the sunroom is connected & has a table & chairs. We enjoyed the outdoor screened in room for cards & lunches. (at night there are lights overhead)
The kitchen has everything anyone could need for any meal. Every small appliance is there for your use. We did eat out a lot just because we were on vacation & treated ourselves. There are numerous good places to eat. The kids enjoyed the HUGE ice cream cones that are just down the road.
Some of the activities we had were kayaking, boat tour, antique shopping, nail spa, golfing, swimming, card playing, game room activities (kids loved the wii on the flat screen) treasure hunting, geo caching, story telling & laughing at some of the old family memories.
I must say it was one of the best family vacations we have had. A lot of memories were made. By the way~~~~as of yesterday we have added another family member. I' am a GREAT GRANDMA.
