Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bathroom Cabin with Mountain Views

Our cabin is nestled in the majestic mountain terrain of Gallatin National Forest and is just twelve miles from Gardiner, a year round gateway to Yellowstone National Park. It is the perfect distance to be able to enjoy Yellowstone but be able to get away from the crowds. From The Lazy M Yellowstone National Park is a scenic 20-25 minute drive. Our cabin is 30 minutes from Chico Hot Springs, an hour from Livingston, and hour and a half from Bozeman Airport.

The cabin is adjacent to Cinnabar Creek, which is great for small trout fishing, and has a magnificent porch with Adirondack chairs to enjoy the beautiful mountain view. If you want to just sit back and relax you can spend hours sitting on the porch next to the creek drinking coffee or wine while reading one of our many books or just enjoying the peaceful environment. Watch deer, elk, and big horn sheep in the meadow out the front door, along the creek or on the nearby bluffs. Bears have also been seen from the porch and along the road. If you are really lucky you may even see a mountain lion. During the evening hours make sure to keep an ear open for howling wolves.

There is a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, pull out sleeper sofa in main cabin and a Tulikivi Fireplace.

This is a mountain cabin in the heart of Montana’s wilderness. While it has most of the amenities of home, it is still a rustic cabin. We have books, travel guides and games in the cabin. There is no TV or phone in the cabin.

About Emily Sherman, Paul & Laurel Koller

Paul and Emily purchased our property in 1994 after looking for a number of years. Emily's great grandfather had owned a general store next to the Crow Indian reservation in the 1890's. Her grandmother grew up in Anaconda, Montana. We have always enjoyed the landscape and dry mountain air of Montana. Paul and Emily had vacationed for many years in Yellowstone National Park before we purchased the LazyM. Day to day operation of the LazyM is done by Paul and Emily's daughter Laurel

Why Emily Sherman, Paul & Laurel Koller chose Gardiner

We choose this location because of it's proximity to Yellowstone Park and the beautiful scenery of Paradise Valley while allowing us quiet seclusion when needed. We enjoy hiking, fishing and both downhill and cross country skiing.

What makes this cabin unique

Sitting on the porch or deck you have a wonderful view of Cinnabar mountain. At night you can sleep with the sound of the creek flowing by and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Our cabin was built in the 1950's and we have tried to preserve it's original charm. We have white pine floors in the main cabin and rustic kitchen cabinets.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We really enjoyed the cabin. It was perfect for our plans. We felt right at home here. We will pass on this onformation to anyone coming to Yellowstone. Have a great Montana summer.

A Secluded Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful time at this cabin. We arrived after four long days of traveling and were amazed how secluded and quaint the cabin was. It was very clean and uncluttered. There was plenty of room to be comfortable and a beautiful porch to sit and relax and just be. A stream next to the cabin sang us to sleep each night and a beautiful sunrise greeted us each morning. This was all we could have hoped for while visiting Yellowstone. It was recommended to us by our son, who stayed there two years ago, and we would definitely recommend it to anyone planning to visit in the future. We hope to get back there some day, but for now we have our beautiful pictures to enjoy of a perfect vacation and a perfect secluded, cozy cabin!

Not a good place to stay

  • 2 of 5

This cabin did not have a sink or electrical plug in the bathroom. The cabin was very dirty and not climatized when we arrived. The owner fixed the gas heater and then turned off all the heat while we were in Yellowstone park. We also asked for additional firewood for the wood stove, but she failed to give us any more. The step up to the porch my elderly relative could not make it so my husband added a rock so she had two steps up. This cabin is not suited for the elderly, disabled or young children. In fact, it may be a violation of the law not to have a rental property suitable for the disabled. No TV or cell phone coverage here. A big disappointment overall.

Owner's Response: I am sorry you were disappointed in your stay at our cabin. I tried to address all of your issues that you brought to my attention. We provided more than enough firewood for your 3-night stay. As I explained over the phone our wood fireplace is made of soapstone and misuse of it by having larger fires or using more firewood than instructed can cause significant damage, which is why more firewood was not provided. It is also written in our Rental Agreement, which was signed when you made the reservation, that guests must follow the instructions for how to use the wood fireplace. Before you even finalized your reservation, I made it very clear multiple times that your 87-year-old mother-in-law may have issues with our cabin in regards to mobility. Our listing clearly states that there is not a sink in the bathroom and there is no TV or cell phone coverage at the cabin. We take great pride in keeping our cabin clean and have numerous reviews saying how clean it is, so I am shocked that you found it dirty. You did not mention anything being dirty until after you had already checked out so there was no way for us to try to remedy whatever you thought was dirty. During our shoulder and off seasons when we do not have guests in the cabin we keep the temperature set to 55 degrees; since we live 75 miles away it is not possible for us to turn the heat up before guests arrive. However once turned on the gas heaters and the wood fireplace very quickly heat the cabin to a comfortable temperature. When I turned the gas heater back to the correct setting after you had changed it, I set the thermostat in the cabin to 60 degrees, as our welcome packet instructs guests to do when they are not in the cabin. Again, I am sorry that the guest was disappointed in our cabin but there is only so much that I can do as an owner when a guest does not read the details of our listing, consider my advice or read and follow the welcome information that is in our cabin. I recommend that if you are interested in The Lazy M to please read the listing carefully, along with the numerous positive reviews, and ask any questions you have. I am more than happy to answer any questions.

Charming Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Loved staying at the Lazy M cabin. Very secluded & private. We loved the drive up the canyon just to get to the cabin. Very pretty! As others have mentioned there is a neighbor who is very close, but we never saw him or heard him our entire stay. The owners have also put up privacy walls on each side which is a nice added touch & adds to the seclusion. Loved the sounds of the river running next to the cabin. Wish it had been a little warmer so we could have enjoyed it more. Always next time! The cabin had everything we needed to help with making our stay more comfortable. Everything from the 2 different style fireplaces to keep the cabin warm & cozy, to the coffee maker, kitchen essentials & very very cozy bed. No Wi-Fi & no cell service was an added bonus. More time to spend with each other, rather than technology. Laurel is fantastic to work with & very informative & helpful. We would definitely rent this cabin again. Thank you for sharing with us!!

Beautiful remote, very remote location, cute, old-fashioned cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

It was very cute and had most things we needed. The kitchen was really well-stocked with everything, including those food items you need, but don't want to always buy. The property sits back from the road 3-5 miles, and is a long dirt, narrow road. There are gorgeous mountains all around, and a neighbor very close behind the cabin. There was no TV or internet, with the occasional text available on the porch. Our weather was very cold (Sept 23), and the fireplace/heater did a really great job of keeping us warm. There is no bathroom sink, the linens are nice and soft, and it is a shower stall with warm water. There are many books and games which kept us busy at night when we were too chicken to go out with the wildlife. The little river runs adjacent and makes a refreshing sound. Being provided Bear Spray (you can't pack it on the plane) was useful, but the fact that we were told we needed Bear Spray never escaped my attention throughout our stay. It is about 15 minutes to the entrance of Yellowstone, and the grocery store in Gardiner is really sufficient, as it has local food and all the necessities. Also, the Sinclair gas station in either direction has more groceries that you'd think. We tried the Pizza place just outside of Yellowstone and was surprised that it was Philadelphia-style, and more of an artisan pizza.

Perfect site off the beaten path. Clean and convenient.

  • 5 of 5

Very convenient and clean with everything needed for our visit to YSP. Just a few minutes to Gardiner then a few more minutes to the park. The bed was very comfy and lots of interesting reading material in the cabin. Would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet place outside the park.

We loved staying in this cabin. It was the perfect size for two of us. It was also nice to be able to hear the creek from the bedroom!
