About the property

3 bedroom, 3 bathroom (1 ensuite) sleeps 6 - 1 king, 1 queen, 2 singles/king

'Stillwater's End' is a beautiful waterfront home, considered the 'jewel' of Stillwater Lake. A short 15 minute drive to Halifax, this new luxury home offers the best of both worlds. Situated at the end of a long private lane, your vacation home has the entire north end of the lake to itself. At the foot of the grounds are the wharf and floating dock, where you and your family can swim in the spring-fed lake, or take the pedal boat and explore the 'still waters'...

Within a 3 minute drive, or 20 minute walk, is the Hubley Center featuring a full range of amenities, including a variety of shops, restaurants, the local family pub, groceries, a liquor outlet, fitness center, rec center, library and skateboard park. For the more adventurous shoppers, you can even take a short cut across the lake using the pedal boat!

A short, scenic drive takes you to the area beaches, local events and so on. Stillwater's End is located midway between the city of Halifax, and the start of the 'South Shore' region of Nova Scotia.

Stillwater's End is the ideal launching spot and 'home base' for your east coast vacation!

St. Margaret's Bay/ Lunenburg - Many scenic routes are close at hand. Majestic Peggys Cove is about 25 minutes away along the world-famous Lighthouse Route that runs the length of St. Margaret's Bay, a popular sailing, diving and fishing destination.

World UNSECO site Lunenburg, still a working fishing port and home of the tall ship Bluenose II, and the romantic sea-side town of Mahone Bay are within an easy 45 minute drive. St. Margaret's Bay and its sailing club are about 10-15 minutes from Stillwater Lake, as are a multitude of authentic antique shops, restaurants, and ocean-front artists' galleries.

The 'Ten Beaches' region starts just a few miles from Stillwater's End as well for those looking to connect with the ocean. Lawrencetown Beach - our world famous North Atlantic surfing destination is less than an hour away along the Eastern Shore. Lessons and equipment rentals are available at the beach!

The nearby sea-side village of Hubbards features great evening entertainment, with live music and open mic/ jam-sessions by the surprising number of professional and semi-pro musicians that have made the South Shore their home. The Trellis Cafe, host of the Thursday night jam and Fri/Sat live music, is also a fantastic restaurant and boutique art gallery, featuring revolving displays of the work of local talents. And, for its 68th straight year, the Shore Club at Hubbards Beach delivers top-notch live dance floor entertainment that has earned its reputation as “Nova Scotia’s Last Great Dance Hall'. They also serve up fabulous lobster suppers, Wed-Sun, featuring locally caught fare, fresh salad bar and 'all you can eat' steamed mussels!

Halifax / Dartmouth: Halifax is THE destination in the Maritime Provinces for both colonial and maritime history.

Explore the 'Titanic' exhibits and maritime museums along the Halifax waterfront, and the 'Citadel Hill' fortification that protected our fair city for over 200 years, and remains one of the most popular spots to visit when in town. The view from there out over the city and towards the open ocean is breathtaking.

Halifax is the home of world-class entertainment and dining, including Casino Nova Scotia, Neptune Theatre and the largest collection of fine restaurants, lounges and traditional pubs in the Atlantic region. The waterfront boardwalk in 'old' Halifax is an amazing collection of centuries-old warehouses, chandleries and breweries converted into delightful shops. artisan studios and restaurants, and is the berth of several 'tall ships' that take passengers out into the harbour. A ticket to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic also gets you a tour of the CSS Acadia, a Canadian Hydrographic ship that remained powered by steam until her retirement in 1961. Don't worry the breweries are still here as well!

Stillwater Lake/ Tantallon - Of course the privacy of Stillwater Lake at your back doorstep beckons... calling you to your private, secluded wharf and dock for a swim in the clean, clear spring-fed fresh-water!

A pedal boat and life jackets are included with the rental, and a 'destination' landing at the other end of the lake brings you within a 4 minute walk of the shops!

About Miriam Sager

John and I went to school together years ago and finally got together in 2008.

I have lived on the lake since I was six years old and he grew up in the small fishing village of Hubbards, not far away.

We both love the water and are often found in the canoe, small inflatable with engine or sailing!

I tend to be a hands on outdoorsy sort often puttering in the garden and John is a musician, playing mainly keyboards but making beautiful music with any instrument.

Both of us are fortunate enough to have our parents living near by as well as other close relatives.

Miriam Sager purchased this house in 2006

Why Miriam Sager chose Nova Scotia

My folks acquired land here on Stillwater Lake years ago and we all still live here on the shores.

John and I had been long-haul trucking and found it a shame to have the house sitting here empty most of the time so we decided to rent it out during the summer months for others to enjoy! That was nine years ago and now even though we retired from the trucking, we still want to share the lake with others! We leave in late spring and head just down the lake a bit to a wee one room cabin, off the grid, on an island. Here we stay 'til the last guests leave in the fall.

What makes this house unique

Because our home is owner occupied most of the year, you know you are getting more than most places have to offer and can be sure it is well taken care of!

The peace, tranquility and nature out every door and window are the finest aspects in my opinion (even tho' the house is fabulous)!

How lucky we were to find this place. It was perfect in every imaginable way. swam in the lake, canoed, heard loons and enjoyed beautiful lunched=s on the deck and dinners in the house. Your kitchen is better equipped than ours at home - unlike any prior rental experience of ours.

This place is ready for any size group.

You have worked hard to make this place very special and you have succeeded.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you

Spectacular property with loads of space

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 6 stayed at Stillwater's End in July, 2017. From the first moment we drove up to the property, we were in love. The property has 3 large bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, huge kitchen and living room and a large, beautiful outside deck. Miriam was extremely responsive right from the start and was available to us for any questions or needs during our stay. Compared to the very few properties of equivalent quality in Nova Scotia, Stillwater's End is incredible value. Highly recommended and would absolutely stay here again!!

Very tastefully decorated, nicely landscaped and nicely outfitted. Overall just a great place.

Arrived late the first night on a 10 day stay to a well lit welcoming property. Miriam had left detailed instructions and even a tray of fresh muffins for our arrival. She came the next day to go over all aspects of the home and was very warm and friendly. I gotta say the online pictures do not do this property justice; it is so much more majestic in person.

The next 9 days we spent enjoying all Halifax and surrounding area has to offer and the houses many broucheurs came in handy. The dock and property where very quiet and sounds of loons and other wildlife added to the peaceful experience.

The location is perfect for day trips to Peggy cove and Lunenburg where boat charters for sailing trips and whale watching are reasonably priced. (Parking can be difficult though)

Emensily enjoyed our stay and would recommend and rent it again next trip out east.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a wonderful time! It is hard to get the scale of the house in photos :-) The 10' ceilings really make for an open, airy feel. My niece's fresh blueberry muffins are always a hit with folks: nice to arrive to a nibble on hand :-) Parking at the house is great! however some small sea side communities have small roads making parking at some establishments a bit awkward, but doable :-) Thank you for looking after things so well! It was a pleasure to have you stay at Stillwaters End. We hope to have you again! Cheers Miriam

Just what we were looking for. Large home open concept, three large bedrooms and three bathrooms. Everything on one floor. Large wraparound deck where we spent most of out time including eating our meals. We were very lucky with the weather. If you are looking for a cabin on the lake this is for you. It is isolated which is what we wanted no late night partyers. Peaceful. Beautiful.

Wonderful House and Setting

  • 5 of 5

Our family which included two adult children and us (a couple of 80 year olds) loved Stillwater's End home. It had everything we needed and was spotlessly clean. Very convenient to visit Halifax, Peggy's Cove and other sights. Located within a few miles of restaurants and grocery stores. Miriam was immediately responsive to a couple of requests we made. She is nearby if there is anything you need. She left fresh baked blueberry muffins which was a nice welcoming gift. We enjoyed them. Furniture and beds were comfortable and kitchen was well equipped. Plenty of seating and tables on the beautiful outdoor porch to enjoy the forest and lake view.

We give it five stars, one of the nicest places we have stayed and we have been renting for our family trips for several years.

wonderful quiet location no one could ask for more I think this is an oasis in the middle of a wooded area. we only spent 5 days at your lakefront home but that was clearly not long enough if we get back to this area your home will be the first one on our list. Miriam was a good hostess who could not do enough for us. I would recommend and challenge anyone to find a better vacation home. Thank you very much. JOHN.

We are three adult couples who have known each other for 50+ years gathered from various parts of the US to celebrate a birthday and to visit this part of Canada. Chef Paul of Knife for Hire prepared and served a 4 course dinner with wine pairings on the night we arrived, providing a wonderful intro to local cuisine and wines. Miriam was a great host...she responded to our every question quickly and provided lovely napkins to enhance our dinner.

Although we had two days of rain, the house is so inviting we were happy to just stay put and catch up with each other. We did get out to visit Lunenberg and Peggy's Cove and also drove to Halifax.

We would love to return in warmer weather so we could take advantage of the outdoor spaces too.
