A location that is hard to beat
If you want a place right on the lake, with gorgeous views, you would be hard pressed to do better. It is without a doubt a camp, but one that has been lovingly taken care of and skillfully updated. Definitely would recommend this.
Family Vacation first time to Vermont in mid-June
For those new to this area, "Camp" is a good description of the property. The location is excellent; your back steps are 25 feet from the lake. We considered the deck and the dock as an extra room as we spent much time there. Sunsets are phenomenal. Getting canoes and rowboat into the lake is a snap. It is 10-15 minutes to get into nearby towns or hiking.
If you are expecting a typical suburban home, this is not it. It could best be explained as a step above a cabin. You are on a heavily forested peninsula out in the lake, so you are immersed in nature. The kitchen has newer amenities, but the rest of the home is rustic. Some of the pictures do show that walls are unfinished, especially upstairs. There can be a moldy, musty smell in the upstairs and living room, and the septic system under the deck can permeate the air at times. We were there at the beginning of summer, so that may have contributed to moisture, bugs, etc.
The owner was extremely responsive to requests and addressed a couple of minor issues while we were there.
Canoes, rowboat, paddles and life jackets are easily available. Our younger children enjoyed some of the board games that were there.
In summary, we had a great time and made lots of memories. There were many positives to this rental, recognizing it as a camp or cabin rental, not a rental home.
Spectacular lakeside retreat!
If you’re looking for a great lakeside stay, then Pine Tree is your place. It’s a rustic, charming and clean cottage with spectacular views of the lake and mountains right at the water’s edge. We were lucky enough to meet Pete when we arrived. He gave us a tour, lots of local tips about the area, and immediately helped us feel at home. Some of our favorite things: canoeing, outdoor shower, a treehouse like view from master bedroom, woodstove, big bathtub, a newly renovated kitchen, and did I say the view? Nearby favorites: Shelburne Farms, Shelburne Museum, Mt Philo State Park, biking the coastal trail & causeway in Burlington, and the cute little town of Vergennes. We’d love to stay there again!
Perfect lakeside retreat
Exactly what we were looking for. Incredible view of the lake and mountains. Quiet and peaceful with the sounds of the wind, waves and waterfowl. Perfect place to relax.
Classic camp perfection
We were thrilled with the charm and amenities of Pine Tree Lodge. Gorgeous lake and Adirondack mountain views from the deck, screened porch, and vaulted master BR. The set-up for our rowing shells was just about perfect: we launched from a small portable dock resting on the rock ledge; no moving or unrigging all week! Our cat loved the peace and quiet and spent most of her day basking in the sun in the master BR. (The other BRS are charming, exposed pine wall vintage beauties.) The area offers dozens of beautiful, pastoral bicycle routes (easy to challenging) and easy access to interesting towns (Shelburne, Vergennes) and a great local restaurant (Starry Night Cafe). We spent most evenings relaxing in the large living room (cozy leather chair and sofa, stone fireplace). Grill set up is easy; we cooked out most nights. Only downside is the vintage sink in the kitchen, which needs new enameling, and the hard, hard water, which occasionally smells of sulphur. No worries on drinking water though: 5-gallon bottles of fresh spring water are always on tap. Thank you so much, Peter, for allowing us to enjoy this wonderful place. It was the best vacation we've had in years. We hope to come back next summer -- maybe for a couple of weeks! Would love to have a chance to use the sauna, too.
Private setting, day hikes, great swimming and boating/paddling, sailing. Unimpeded views.
