About Peter & Betty Oxley
We ( Betty & Peter ) moved to Exuma from England in 1999 having first spent some years exploring different parts of the world to find the best place to enjoy our retirement. We love Exuma so much that we live here year round except when we vacation or visit family & friends back in the UK.
Peter & Betty Oxley purchased this Villa in 2003
Why Peter & Betty Oxley chose George Town
After several years living on the island we wanted to find the best beach plot where we could design and have built our ideal beach villa. We eventually found the right plot on what is regarded as the best beach in Exuma (certainly Realtors price it as the premium beach !! ) and with the detailed help of an internationally well regarded architect we set about having it constructed.
What makes this Villa unique
Hoopers Bay (now also called Turtle Bay) is the calmest (and therefore safest ) beach on Exuma as it is protected from the prevailing winds so that swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and other relaxing pleasures for all ages can be fully enjoyed . We even have GREEN TURTLES in the bay for guests to meet. Some of the special advantages of staying at our coralsandsbahamas villa are:- --Direct "on the beach" position --Spacious tropical gardens of 1.5 acres surround the villa --Only 12 minutes from the international airport --Local shops less than a 5 minute walk and Georgetown only 6 minutes away by car --FREE kayaks for our guests --FREE pickup for the private transfer for the swimming pigs boat tours --Stay on the bay with turtles in the shallow sea & not having to travel to see them The 1/2 mile long beach is just a few paces through our tropical garden whilst from the expansive covered decks of the villa there are wonderful sea views. Easily reached from Georgetown International Airport in just 12 minutes, the location of "Coral Sands Beach Villa" is also very convenient as a good range of local shops are within 5 minutes easy walk whilst the capital, Georgetown, is only 6 minutes by car.

My wife and I celebrated our 45th wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren, though we had an idea of what to expect, as we also celebrated our 40th anniversary as guests of Betty and Peter.
During our first stay, everything went perfectly: the weather, the water, the fishing and sightseeing excursions...everything. In fact, within days of our arrival, our granddaughter, who was nine at the time, came up and asked us, "Is this paradise?" We all agreed.
The second trip, however, differed in the challenges we all faced. Many days the skies were overcast. Often the winds, rain, and cooler temperatures limited the number of excursions available and the comfort of the ones of which we could participate. Due to the cooler temperatures, several of our party had very negative encounters with sand fleas/flies, necessitating a trip to the pharmacy for medication. We even had a blowout on the way into Georgetown for an evening of dinner and Junkinoo.
One might expect the remainder of this review to reflect the two trips as first good and second bad, but that would be a mistake. During our current stay we did have challenges, certainly, but if one travels, one has to accept the fact that if weather is involved, it might just get "ugly" at times.
We had a different stay this time. We enjoyed the the nice weather we got, found some alternative choices to the standard activities (Junkinoo, majorly pleasant surprise, visiting the Exuma foundation just down the road provides a great way to learn about Exuma plants, bees, history, and honey, driving south to Little Exuma, to name but a few), and, most of all, enjoyed the beautiful accommodations that Coral Sands, along with the attentive care we received from Betty and Peter. They were always willing to help us find a way to make whatever issues we had get better.
We were still able to take the day trip north, this time with Anton and Aquaquest Escapes, and had a great trip despite fighting the weather at times. We enjoyed Stocking Island and Chat and Chill, petting the stingrays, even though we came back to Georgetown in the cold rain. Everyone still had smiles on their faces. We found turtles in the bay out back, and though we didn't fish this time around, we thoroughly enjoyed our time on the island. Make sure you visit Shirley's, and Splash is a fun sports bar type place just down the road.
All's good except for the TV, but if you're there for the TV, you're in the wrong spot:)
What a wonderfully descriptive Review as you certainly made the most of many activities when the weather was inclement. This Christmas/ New Year was unfortunately cool on some days but it did not stop you all sharing the very special anniversary & we were particularly pleased to have welcomed you.
Best wishes for the future & many more anniversaries.

We are not even sure where to begin to write this review. Coral Sands was absolutely perfect. We spent 10 nights in the home (2 adults and 3 teenagers) and it was our first trip to Exuma. To begin, Peter (we did not have the pleasure of meeting his wife as she was out of town) was a perfect host. When we arrived, he showed us around the house (built to the toughest hurricane standards!) and then we got in the car and he showed us where to shop - two markets located very close - one in each direction.
We asked him to help us with our itinerary for the days we were there and we would schedule to meet every couple of days. He would draw on maps and give us good directions to find beaches. Trust us, you need his directions. When Peter says drive 1 km past a certain road and take a right at a blue garbage can, rest assured that is exactly what you do! You might not find some of the beach entrances otherwise. Sometimes, we would communicate via email and he would make great dinner recommendations. He never showed up unannounced or was on the property without notifying us well in advance. (He had his gardener there a couple of days when we were scheduled to be out and about.) Peter was also great with our kids! He is very knowledgeable and has lots of interesting facts about the island! (Oolite!)
We spent many days exploring the island - in both directions. Coral Sands is in a perfect location in about the middle of Great Exuma. One day, we would head towards Little Exuma (Tropic of Cancer Beach) and the next day we would go the other way to places like Cocoplum Beach. We spent a day in a private charter boat with Robert Thompson which was a recommendation on Peter's behalf and it could not have been a better day! (Pigs, iguanas, sharks, Thunderball Grotto, etc.)
However, the very best thing about Coral Sands is it sits on the most beautiful body of water on the island. Hooper's Bay is incredible. Soft sand, shallow calm warm water, exquisite colors and TURTLES!! What more could you ask for? We loved taking adventures but we LOVED coming 'home' at the end of every day. Some days, we didn't leave! There is a perfectly placed palm tree at the beach that provides just the right amount of shade!
This is the first vacation we've EVER taken where we will definitely return - maybe even year after year after year. Coral Sands on Hooper's Bay is truly perfect.
We can truly say you were one of the nicest families that have stayed in the nearly 20 years since we designed & built Coral Sands.
You had great interest in participating in the various activities available on the island together with a willingness to appreciate & absorb the culture, food & lifestyle of the people. This helped you achieve a good understanding of much that Exuma can offer visitors & you then left with a good number of pleasant memories.
Your Review will certainly help future guests & we hope that we can welcome yourselves/ friends again to Coral Sands.
Best wishes from the sunshine.

Beautiful protected beach
Peter is an excellent host
We really enjoyed staying at Coral Sands, our family was very happy there. Beautiful beach and terrific van, great kitchen, and Peter was delightful!
It was great to meet you all & to know that you enjoyed your stay at Coral Sands & many thanks for the Review.
Hope we can welcome you on another occasion to enjoy the sunshine & warmth of Exuma.

A perfect location and villa
We only had 6 people in our party and that gave us plenty of space in the villa (the master is very spacious and so is the main lounge/dining table and kitchen) we also used the outside seating area, the free mini van which came in handy, the kayaks and it was spotless when we arrived. The beach on Hoopers Bay is superb, fairly deserted, white sands, turquoise ocean and lots of sealife for snorkeling.
We would definitely rent Coral Sands again if it is vacant when we return.
Tracy & family,
It was so good to read your Review of your stay at Coral Sands Beach Villa. We were glad to know that everything worked well for the wedding & we certainly would like to welcome you back on a future occasion.

Nothing like a PERFECT vacation
This villa was the best place for a perfect family vacation. Exuma is one of the most beautiful places on earth and Hoopers Bay idyllic. Peter and Betty were very accommodating and made our stay very enjoyable. Turtles in the bay! Perfect weather! Soft sand! What more can I say??? Heaven on earth!
You were a lovely family who fully enjoyed their first visit to Exuma.
We were very happy to read your Review as this will certainly help other people who may want to stay on this beautiful island.
Best wishes & many thanks,
Betty & Peter
